An interesting twist on the Faustian bargain narrative.
Fowler is a gifted writer, and in SPANKY he's written a couple of interesting and engaging protagonists: Martyn Ross, a bit of a hopeless case, and Spancialosaphus Lacrimosae, the titular "Spanky", who is his "personal demon".
The novel has plenty of dark humour, and Fowler's got a gift for penning engaging characters and plots. I enjoyed this. It's quite different from his more-famous Bryant & May series, but if you want to read something by the author that's a bit different, then give this a go.
