Book Review:
The Sister by Louise Jensen
Published by Bookouture, 7th July 2016
⭐️⭐️⭐️

Synopsis:
Grace hasn't been the same since the death of her best friend Charlie. She is haunted by Charlie's words, the last time she saw her, and in a bid for answers, opens an old memory box of Charlie's. It soon becomes clear there was a lot she didn't know about her best friend.

When Grace starts a campaign to find Charlie's father, Anna, a girl claiming to be Charlie's sister steps forward. For Grace, finding Anna is like finding a new family, and soon Anna has made herself very comfortable in Grace and boyfriend Dan's home.

But something isn't right. Things disappear, Dan's acting strangely and Grace is sure that someone is following her. Is it all in Grace's mind? Or as she gets closer to discovering the truth about both Charlie and Anna, is Grace in terrible danger?

Review:
I can honestly say that I've never wanted to slap a character quite so much as Grace! She is one of the most unlikeable characters I've ever read! Despite this, and whilst trying to use only my inner voice to shout at her (I read mainly in the depths of night next to my slumbering husband), I persevered as I found this story quite compelling.
The first two-thirds of the book was well paced, and the plot relayed via 'then and now' chapter styling, which ramped up the intrigue. The last third felt a little rushed in comparison, but overall, this was a good debut. Louise Jensen has written several more books since, which are worth checking out too.

Maybe I wasn't listening as closely to this audiobook as I could have been....but I just thought this was ok. Still not thrilled with the ending and I feel like there are some loose ends. But it was ok. I wanted to finish it at least and find out what happened.

The Sister by Louise Jensen

I honestly believed I had posted a review for this one, like YEARS ago, but it turns out I hadn't! The Sister was a solid thriller with decent characters (some not so decent) but I enjoyed the story and the writing was good! Lots of great twists and some really left me reeling!! The writing wasn't too heavy, even with all the guilt and self-blaming, so I feel that many levels of readers would enjoy it! And I hope this author continues writing for many years to come.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this title!

4 out of 5 stars

I love a slow burn psychological thriller when you question every single thing especially the characters and every thing they are doing or saying. you just keep turning the page just to find out what will happen nexted.

My thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I highly recommend this if you like psychological thrillers with mystery and suspense rolled up into a great package!

Why on earth have i only just gotten around to reading this exeptional story. I am so behind in my reading of some books and then behind on my reviewing of other books.
I found this book has really helped me the last few days by getting lost in a non real world. I felt at home and less stressed curled up with a book that let me forget real life just for a while. This book really did that.

A psychological thriller with a brilliant twist you won't see coming - I always believe i will see it coming, you can't fool me. Can you?
Well obviously i'm not as good as i think i am. A real interist plot, that wasn't just the same, same, it felt new, it felt exciting. It's hard to believe its actually the authors Debut, how lucky am i that i can now dive in to her other books.

Omg! Louise Jensen is a master storyteller! Her books are gripping, compelling and intense but somehow full of heart. It's hard to get that balance but she nails it every time.

I quite enjoyed this book. It keeps you hooked from the start and is full of interesting surprises. I would probably recommend it.

The cover of this book drew me in, it's beautiful! The book is not one that starts out with a bang, but is a slow burn. Two girls who meet when they are young and become like sisters. The premise behind this book is amazing but it just didn't keep me interested and some of things just weren't believable. I've read other Louise Jensen books and I enjoy them, I just think this one couldn't hook me quick enough.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review.

‘I did something terrible, Grace. I hope you can forgive me…’

'Grace hasn't been the same since the death of her best friend Charlie. She is haunted by Charlie's last words, and in a bid for answers, opens an old memory box of Charlie's. It soon becomes clear there was a lot she didn't know about her best friend.'

Decent psychological thriller, I think you will enjoy!

Told through two different timelines, Now and Then, Grace recalls how her friendship with Charlie began in the Then chapters and the Now deals with Grace in recovery after the death of Charlie. Charlie's death is a mystery for awhile in the book, so the reader has to just blindly follow Grace through these timelines.

I liked this one, but didn't love it. I felt as though there were a few mysteries going on at once and there was quite a bit of teasing the reader with reminding them how much they didn't know and what mysteries were up in the air to solve.

This book took a few twists and turns, some I predicted and some that surprised me. I was sad by the ones I predicted, I felt they were just a bit glaring, but the ones that surprised me were great. I liked that I didn't get them all and that they didn't come out of left field and seem implausible. Sorry for the vagueness - don't want to spoil!

This was my first read by Louise Jensen and I am intrigued to dive into her blacklist. If you have ready any of her previous books, where should I go from here?

This was a great thriller with plenty of twists and turns that gave me ‘single white female’ vibes.

Grace recently lost her best friend Charlie and is still adjusting to the fact that she is gone. She is living with her childhood sweetheart, Dan, who is coping with the loss as well. This book is full of secrets - both from the past and present. Literally everyone has a secret waiting to be discovered! Purposely being vague so I don’t give anything away 😉

I loved the way the chapters went between the past and present - that tactic always keeps me reading. I also love that this was @fabricating_fiction debut novel! And…there’s an epilogue!

This is a great debut psychological thriller and yet another book that is hard to put down and keeps you guessing. Just when you think you have guessed correctly there is another twist. High recommend this. Another Author to add to the list.

Louise Jensen is a fantastic author. The Sister provides a twisty, dark narrative into family secrets and how far people will go to hide their pasts. The novels protagonist is real - she is an ordinary British girl who anyone can relate to with a seemingly good life, nice cottage, supportive partner. When a stranger enters her life, everything changes and soon you begin to question reality in the same manner as her protagonist. Brilliant book. Highly recommend.

This was the best free book I ever received!!!!! I received this as an arc from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I honestly thought this book was wonderful. It was a psychological thriller and there were several plot lines throughout. While I suspected how some of the story would go, I was able to read almost to the end of the book before I figured out the whole story. This was a debut novel and I will certainly be checking out future books from this author.
