Three humorous tales, delightfully illustrated. King Garnet is a benevolent, friendly ruler.
Story one: a chronicle of the king's growing, spindly feet--feet so large that he can see over high walls. Nobody knows how to resolve the problem. Eventually, the Prime Minister visits two witches in the woods to find out if they have cast a spell on him. They didn't, but a cat in their home is the culprit. The spell is reversed, Garnet's feet shrink and everyone lives happily ever after.
Story Two: Garnet feigns illness, one that prevents him from speaking to teach his nagging wife a lesson. The king's doctors and daughters are in on the trick, which achieves the desired result.
Story Three: King Grundle, Garnet's old friend sends a messenger. Rather than delivering Garnet's note of friendship, he tells Grundle of ill-treatment from Garnet and his soldiers. Grundle is enraged and prepares for battle. But (predictably), something happens to reveal the truth. While encamped on the way to Garnet's kingdom, Garnet's letter of friendship is found by a tree. The messenger explains the rationale for his story: boredom and longing for the old days of battle. The upshot: Grundle visits Garnet and they decide to have a mock battle, where nobody gets hurt.
