I love books that feature travel and especially India so I was looking forward to reading this and about Georgia's discovery of her true self in this incredible land. Unfortunately I was to be disappointed. I assume the author has been to the country but I didn't really get any sense of being there, and the only aspects of India highlighted were its more problematic ones. India is a diverse, amazing country but cliched tales of 'Delhi Belly' are not the way to bring it to life.
It was pretty hard to connect to the main character for me, and although she was promised this enlightening trip by her friend, Trisha, she doesn't appear to really grow at all. We're told she is and that she feels differently but she acts exactly the same - stressing and crying and kind of annoying, even when she's supposed to have felt India's change. There is also a couple of references to her 'surviving India'. For a travel agent, supposedly sending people on dream trips this seems a strange attitude and, for me, a waste of potentially great setting.
The 'romance' with Ben didn't have any feels for me either - I wanted to feel the attraction between them but unfortunately, I didn't get anything.
The humour is probably a bit marmite - personally I don't really need to read about all the bodily functions that go on but as I say, that is just personal taste and others might find it fine.
There were a couple of points that really pulled me out of the book though and probably should have been addressed. - firstly she says her flight to India from the UK took 15 hours. I think the pilot must have taken the long way round as a standard flight is between eight and nine hours. The second is that the karaoke scene seems to have been lifted straight out of a 'Friends' episode...
I really did want to like this but it just wasn't for me.
Love, love, love this book! This series is sooooo good! Katy is an inspiration and such a lovely person and her story needed to be told. She has done an amazing job and Destination India is a great read!
3.5
Destination India is the second book in the Lonely Hearts Travel Club.
Georgia and Ben have set up her business and it is quite successful but then a bad review is coming in and Georgia sets off to India to investigate.
Again this book is full of travel adventures, exotic places and lots of fun. Some scenes really made me laugh out loud. I also enjoyed visiting the sights in India.
I was a bit disappointed that the love story plays such a minor role in the second book as well. I do love the idea about the Lonely Hearts Travel Club, I definitely could see myself booking a trip there.
I am absolutely looking forward to the next book in this series.
Big fan of this series! I absolutely loved the first book so I was excited to read the next part of the adventure this time india. I was not let down it was full of laughter and fun. When you read it you feel like your travelling the world to and exploring India too. Cant wait to read the third part
