Kesterly-on-Sea is full of secrets.
Some are darker than others; many are shameful. One is even deadly.
Andee is an ex-detective whose marriage is breaking up. So when a young female student disappears without trace, she throws herself into the search.
Meanwhile, the town’s beloved Rowzee Cayne has just discovered that she is terminally ill, and doesn’t want to burden her family and friends with the news.
Andee and Rowzee don't know it yet, but their journeys are going to help them uncover a secret. One that is going to affect them more than they could ever imagine.
The Moment She Left was another great book by Susan Lewis although not a page turner I persevered with it and enjoyed it by the end. The book looks into a missing girl, a family breakdown and terminal illness.
'The Moment She Left' by Susan Lewis opens with the Prologue; attractive, vivacious student and part-time singer Jessica, disappears in London after leaving home to catch a train. She is never seen again. Her grieving family move South and go their separate ways, unable to come to terms with their loss.
Two years pass and Jessica's father, Blake, approaches Andee, former detective now turned PI, in an attempt to find out what happened to his daughter.
Blake works for Graeme, previously in a short relationship with Andee, and sister to Rowzee, a retired teacher who once taught Andee's two children.....I found the complicated intertwined relationships of the many characters incredibly distracting, and as a result it took me some time to settle down to actually reading what is actually a very carefully constructed plot with no loose ends, a writing skill that I admire greatly.
Something was missing though. Whether it was the length of time it took me to place characters and plot, or whether it was simply the story, I found it quite a tedious story to read. That said, the readers really are kept guessing to the very end, and the twist when it came was so entirely unexpected it took my breath away!
I did enjoy the book, but it wasn't a page turner for me.
I rate 'The Moment She Left' with 3 out of 5 stars.
