Oooh this is a tense book! It's very gripping and keeps you guessing. Well written characters and a compelling plot.

This was a really fun popcorn thriller with twists I didn't see coming. Such an interesting spin on the typical mean/sinister stepmother that is all too common in movies and books. The only issue I had with this one was the lack of communication, like when someone was mad or had urgent information, they danced around questions asked to the point of frustration for me. If someone screams and someone asks what happened, why does it take 2 pages to find out what happened?! Other than that, this was enjoyable and a fast read.

What a dark and twisty read this one was. Finally getting around to reading some of my books that I had gotten way behind on. finally getting my mojo back and this was a great book to help with that.
The title of this book says it all, it makes you think right away of evil, nasty. (not all step mothers are evil, i must add, lol. some are very nice) I just think it has that sinister air around it.

loved the short chapters, just one more chap and before you know it you just may as well carry on and finish the book, gripped with the story and really needing to know where it was all going to go.

This turned out to be a pretty good psychological thriller and I really enjoyed it. i found it quite an emotional read and in parts it does make you think about things.
worth the read and as the dark nights are now coming in It's a great curl up with your blanket read.

While it was good, there was nothing spectacular for me with this one. I did enjoy Jeanie’s past, but i didn’t like Matthew or his ex, or his kids. I wasn’t a fan of Jeanie’s sister or her back story either. I found it triggering as a stepparent myself because it’s true, stepparenting is so difficult, especially when the ex is still involved and not supportive. It’s a hard road for sure and this story was also validating for us stepparents for sure. Overall, and good read.

Thank you so much for my review copy in return for an honest review. Much appreciated.

An interesting premise, retelling a traditional fairytale, looking from different angles. What if Snow White isn’t all she seems?
This was quite the rollercoaster of a book, gripping to say the least. I enjoyed it!

Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. I wanted to love this book. I love thrillers and this was right up my alley. But I did not. I don't think the writing was very good. I couldn't finish it and I feel so guilty but the time i was taking to decide whether or not to finish it made the decision for me.

This is the first Claire Seeber book I've read and it's left me curious to see what other stories this author has to offer. I enjoyed the split perspective between Marlena and Jeannie. I breezed through this book in a two days, only after I forced myself to put it down before bed. The tension in this book is masterful.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

A fairly typical crime novel, but one that I enjoyed reading. If you're looking for a thriller that's also a pretty easy read, check this one out. Not the best I've ever read, but I'd pick up another Seeber book in the future.

Decent story. Unfortunately the story didn't stick with me and it's been a while since I read it. It was entertaining when I read it, but not a thriller that I will think to pick up again and refer people to since it doesn't stand out to me.

THE STEPMOTHER by Claire Seeber is a dark twisted psychological thriller based on the story of Snow White and the wicked stepmother who married the handsome prince and was so envious of her stepdaughter, had her killed.

Wow! What an amazing book! I absolutely LOVED it! Could not put it down and definitely did NOT see any of the twists coming. Fast paced, thrilling, compelling, tense, atmospheric, addictive. Another FABULOUS read from Claire Seeber!

Bookouture are just so darn reliable! I have enjoyed pretty much every book that they have published! This was a great psychological thriller that I just gobbled up like chocolate!

Jeanie moves to her new home, with her new husband and new step children. Things moved quite quickly when she met Matthew, and settling into the role of step mother is proving a bit more difficult than anticipated. Add to that the seemingly haunted house, strange happenings, and the fact that Jeanie has a few secrets that she hasn't shared with her besotted new husband...

Loved the suspenseful writing in this one! It was gripping and I had a difficult time putting it down! The writing was frustratingly vague on certain details, it was so cleverly put together. You HAD to keep reading!

Loved the characters, the book is told by Jeanie and her little sister, chapter by chapter it goes from one character to another. I really enjoyed the layout. A little bit of info here, neglecting a bit of info there. So at the end it all weaved together. I didn't see the twist until about 85% of the way through, which is strange for me because I generally guess from much earlier on. And the eerie tone of the book! SO GOOD!

Did I mention I loved the writing??

I want to talk more about the plot and characters but I just keep going back to the writing!

Yet, it was still a 4 star read for me. Solid, but there was just something missing that I can't put my finger on. I just didn't enjoy it enough to put it at the top of my list. But it was still a great reliably enjoyable read and I wouldn't hesitate to check out the authors other work!

Would I recommend The Stepmother?
Yes any psychological thriller fans will enjoy this one with its eerie atmosphere, great story, characters, and did I mention the writing was awesome!?

Big thanks to the author Claire Seeber and Bookouture via Netgalley for a copy of this book to review.

There was loads of twists and turns in this book, it was fabulous for keeping you guessing. I didn't see most of it coming at all.

Really enjoyed the story at least what I could understand of it, the references periodically to fairy tales didn't really do much for me, but I could sort of understand why they were there.

If you ever marry a man and become a stepmother - all I can say is don't marry into a family like the one the Jeannie did. Makes life a lot creepier than it needed to be.

Great story including tips on how to be a good step mother, and plenty of surprising turns and information to come out that will keep you reading until the last page.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

A well paced, dark thriller, with some unlikable but realistic characters. Not the most original plot, but it kept my attention.

I expected to really enjoy this book as Thrillers are my favourite genre and I have also liked all of Claire Seeber's previous books. This book is well paced and did keep me thinking. However, I didn't particularly like any of the characters and for me this is an important part of reading a book. The 'Step Mother' is a bit drippy and dull and the situation that she finds herself in is somewhat unrealistic. I found myself struggling to read to the end. This wouldn't put me off of Claire's other books though.

This is the second book I have read by Clare Seeber and she us fast becoming an author who's work I will pick up with no hesitation as I know I'll be guaranteed a good read. I read this book over two days as it kept me so engrossed. Highly recommended.

This book gave me a very uneasy feeling throughout the read. I think that's a testament to the writing, and how atmospheric it is. The plot was very chaotic and it felt like there was always just a little too much going on. However I did enjoy this read and couldn't put the book down! I guessed the twist pretty early on, but it didn't take away from the story and the suspense.

I was kindly sent a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I have decided that i will not be publishing a review for this book after reading it since i did not get along with this book. but since i felt like it was mostly for my own personal reasons why i didn't enjoy the book it wouldn't be fair towards the author and the book itself if i would publicise a negative review simply because this book didn't fit into my personal reading preferences.
thank you for the opportunity to read this book even if it did not work out as we all had hoped.
