Jeanie wants to be a good Stepmother. She even bought a parenting book. Blending two families together isn't easy sometimes - especially not when someone has a secret, and someone else is determined to spill it...

Jeanie has overcome terrible incidents in her past and finally seems to have a good life for herself and her son Frankie. New husband Matthew seems like everything she could ever want - so why does Jeanie feel like she's losing her mind?

A great psychological thriller full of secrets and unreliable narrators - who can we really trust? Addictive.

I really enjoyed this one! Full of twists and turns throughout. The ending was a little disappointing but still left me with an 'O' for a mouth. I would definitely recommend this!

This book was amazing! The characters were relatable and the twists and turns were well composed. Some things were predictable, but it still left me guessing and I love thrillers like that. I'll have to keep my eyes open for more of her books!

I thought this book started out slow but finally picked up around 60%. The story alternates between Marlena and Jeannie's perspective. I did not like the way Marlena was talking directly to us readers. There were lots of plot twists (in the the end) where I couldn't put the book down. If you give up on a book after reading a couple of chapters, this book is not for you.

I would like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of Claire Seeber's "The Stepmother" in exchange for a honest review.

Stepmothers get a bad rep thanks to Cinderella but is it always the stepmothers who are evil?

I enjoyed this book as the characters were well written, the story flowed well and the ending was all wrapped up nicely which I always appreciate.

You should all read this book.

There are loads of domestic Noir thrillers focusing on secrets within families and marriages around just now but THE STEPMOTHER deserves to stand out from the crowd. You'll find yourself trying to piece together the clues to figure out what exactly is going in and who you can trust. Fast paced and enjoyable.

The ducking and diving of the psychological thriller is what makes them so compelling and Seeber's The Stepmother is no exception. The notion of the mind being tormented sometimes to the point of insanity draws the reader in. In this book the traditional concept of the evil stepmother is challenged as Jeanie, determined to create a blended family, begins her new life, putting her past firmly behind her.
When Jeanie Randall is given a second chance at a fairy-tale ending, although initially reluctant , she grasps the opportunity with both hands and marries Matthew king becoming stepmother to his twins Lucas and Scarlett. Whilst optimistic about her new role Jeannie is faced with a series of events leaving her unsure of who to trust. Could her new husband be behind the events that leave her isolated or is it his ex -wife or the twins or even her own son Frankie...? As Jeannie becomes more fragile and insecure she encounters more and more mysteries and inconsistencies that lead her closer to the edge.
The Stepmother is a delightful play on the traditional fairy tale that is wholly engrossing. The cast is intriguing and the various back stories serve beautifully as carrots to settle the reader deeper into the sofa to finish the book.

I remember i read this book on the train to a few days away with the MR and he was trying to talk to me, and i just couldn't because this book had me hooked, and i kind of wanted to spend the evening in the hotel finishing the book, because just WOW.

Jeanie has the perfect life, she has moved into Matthews pefect home with her teenage son, and is now a step mother to two other teenages, shes got this - i mean she has her own, so it will be fine, they just need to get used to her, thats all.

Its not that simple, and there is something darker at work here, something that is playing with the past she buried a long time ago, a past she has moved on from, something that is playing with her happy ending.

The step mother is a brilliant thriller that really does keep you hooked trying to figure out what on earth is going on, i really had no clue, and every time i thought i had it - doubt was cast and yep, i was wrong again. It was chilling and dark, and Seeber has done a wonderful job of creating characters that you are never sure whether to trust, each one is not as they seem.

Everything is played out really well, and not quick and easy but it doesnt drag on, it just has the prefect pacing to keep the reader turning those pages (oh and side note, i had to wait until the return journey home to finish the book!)

I loved this book. I was hooked since the first page. I read it in two days, and I'm pretty busy. I stayed up until 2 or 3 in the morning because I did not want to put it down. LOL. I think we might see this one in theater's soon! Highly recommend it!
