A tense and twisty thriller that did take me awhile to get into but it soon picked up and kept me entertained.

Thank you to Netgalley for a copy for an honest review.

Secrets from the past catching up with you…..I’ve summed it up in a short sentence.

I usually like this authors books but this one seemed to be a bit off skelter. A bit like an essay.

I struggled with it, maybe I wasn’t ready for more of this topic/themed type read yet and stay clear for a while.

There was nothing new under the sun for me here I’m afraid.
I feel bad writing that because (like I said) I usually enjoy her books.

Lost loves, secrets and a rundown seaside town all lead to a twisty gripping read. I was drawn in and captivated until the end. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

For a thriller this wasn't always the pace I'd hoped for but I enjoyed it well enough and it did keep me interested enough to want to know what happened next.

Not convinced by the plot to feel any tension. It wasn’t a hard read and didn’t take me long to finish it but I can’t say I would recommend it but perhaps ok as a holiday read.

An interesting take on the genre, although I found the ending to be an anticlimax. A lot of the 'twists' had been signposted, but I was quite absorbed in the story until close to the end. If you like this kind of novels, I am sure you will like this one.

A dark and spooky psychological thriller following the disappearance of a teenage girl back in 1997. Told in alternating viewpoints for the missing girl Sophie back in 1997 and her best friend Frankie in present day.

I loved this book, just when I thought I’d worked it out, the author threw me. I love it when I’m caught out by an ending. A fantastic read

Did like this book, although I took sometime to continue reading. Liked the looking back at the friendship between the two girls and their seaside upbringing but, overall found the book a bit of a struggle and in the end did not finish it.

Wow! This book is a fabulous, taut psychological thriller. The characters are well drawn and the plot has a fantastic drive to it. There are difficult moments and dark subject matter but there's a redemptive element to the experience. This is fabulous and should be a hot hit for the author.

Told from two different points of view, Local Girl Missing is one of those intriguing books filled with secrets that you just can't wait to unearth. Along with the fast pace, I loved the two different voices of the story; that of Frankie returning to her hometown when a body has been found and the voice of Sophie who went missing twenty years ago. Will the truth about Sophie's disappearance be revealed at last?

Frankie and Sophie were friends but, like all friendships, had their ups and downs with Frankie often appearing possessive and jealous of Sophie. The girls may not have always got along but a secret binds them together as they are the only people who know what really happened when a local boy fell off the pier. History repeats itself when the same thing appears to happen to Sophie, but without a body nobody is certain what really happened to her. It is only twenty years later that a body is found and Sophie's brother, Daniel, asks Frankie to return home to identify the body with him. Frankie is haunted by visions of Sophie and other strange things keep happening to her. Somebody is watching and playing with Frankie's mind...

This was quite a tense story, my tension often exacerbated by the many ghostly goose-bumpy feelings I experienced. It is filled with small town secrets and Frankie's return seems to have made them bubble to the surface and burst with catastrophic consequences. Frankie and Sophie had quite a toxic friendship and the flashbacks to the past made it interesting to see the dynamic between these so-called friends.

Although I didn't really empathise with any of the characters, despite disturbing events in their past, I found the quality of the writing to be excellent. It was so atmospheric that I felt chilled to my bones and could almost taste the tang of the salty sea air on my lips. I'll definitely be looking our for any new books by Claire Douglas and I'll make sure to add her debut, The Sisters, to my reading list.

I chose to read an ARC and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

It's obviously been sitting on my virtual shelf for sometime but the rave reviews following this book around finally compelled me to give it a go.

While I found this book very, very unrealistic, I kept reading. I was fully immersed in the story from the outset and totally involved with each individual character. The way the story flits back and forth from past to present makes the reader truly feel that they have grown with the characters. I enjoyed the way Claire Douglas's writing automatically made me either love or take an instant dislike to various people and the story became a bit of an epic rollercoaster, culminating in an amazing showdown.

A really entertaining read!

This is my second book by Claire Douglas and it has all the ingredients I require from a psychological thriller. Quite a few times I thought I had figured out where the story was taking me. But no, the twists kept coming and kept me guessing! Loved it.

This is a book I didn't want to end, it was gripping from the beginning.
It began as a simple storyline and then a few chapters in whoosh helter-skelters you in with various storylines to follow and try to work out and put the plot together.
one of the unique points of the story (IMHO) is the fact that the diary entries are written by Sophie herself and kind of fit in with the modern way it has been written.
it was a fabulous read and one that with stick with my heart for a long time, you know its a good book when your heart has had a few "BOOM'' moments and you have to check the locks.
Well done Claire Douglas , I had to check the locks !
