Vuillard is a new author to me and his style, obviously, is very French. This book has a strange blend of historical fiction and non-fiction that almost shouldn't work but somehow manages to be convincing. I had only a small understanding of this era of American history and I feel I got quite a lot out of it. I don't know if I could really recommend it to anyone I know for the simple reason, it's an interesting conundrum. Thank you for approving this title for me.
