I'm personally not a frequent werewolf/vampire book reader. I don't think I have a thing against them per se, but they're not top on my priority of books to seek out and read. If they happen to be in a book I was reading, then I won't mind, but I won't go in search of one from that genre in particular.
The thing is, for some time I was wondering if that meant I disliked them or had an aversion to them (werewolf books in particular), or if I just hadn't come across any that I'd wanted to read.

Which was why I was happy to come across this book, I mean let's face it, is about a kickass heroine in search of information on her father's side of the family and her heritage from New Zealand and ends up discovering more about her tribe than she had seen coming when she'd gone out on this journey of self-discovery.

The book is Tommi, a girl who travels to New Zealand to find out more about the man who'd contributed to her creation. She didn't want to actually get to know him or anything since her mother had claimed the man had both attacked and raped her, so on all counts, the man wasn't worthy of her time, but she wanted to know a little about her other half and the heritage that came with it. Boy was she in for a surprise to realize that the story hadn't gone exactly as her other had claimed, that she'd used it as an excuse to run away from New Zealand and to keep Tommi from asking about her dad because there was ANOTHER secret she'd been hiding. Tommi's father came from a long line of werewolves and considering they were dying out, they needed every single werewolf they could get their hands on to join the family - and that included Tommi who hadn't realized what she was yet.

The thing is, the idea of the book had sounded intriguing to me, and the start was gripping, if not a little off-putting once the story caught up. But as the story went on, it became a little less enjoyable and more and more gruesome. By the end I found myself not as interested as I had been when I'd started out, which was such a shame, but I found myself not connecting with the lead or even caring to know how things go. Then the end happened, and yeah, not my kind of story.
