This is exactly the type of "whodunit" and police procedural I enjoy reading. With compelling plots, motives are explored, as the suspense builds. Disappointing when the book is finished, I want more!

I decided it was time to catch up with a series. I have just finished reading this book and went on to purchase the next book which i then read as soon as i finished this one.
An interesting read that kept me guessing and wanting more. Great characters that really have grown with the series.
When a cottage is purchased at auction no one knew the history and issues the cottage would reveal. A young girls back back with a diary, is a very interesting find.
The characters of Tom and Ruth are brilliant, a team that you want to support and follow their daily activities.

If this doesn't put you off buying a remote cottage at auction then i'm not sure what will.

Here is the current update list of books in this series. I will certainly be catching up with the rest of them.
Calladine & Bayliss
1. Dead Wrong (2015)
2. Dead Silent (2015)
3. Dead List (2015)
4. Dead Lost (2016)
5. Dead & Buried (2016)
6. Dead Nasty (2016)
7. Dead Jealous (2017)
8. Dead Bad (2018)
9. Dead Guilty (2019)
10. Dead Wicked (2020)
11. Dead Sorry (2021)
12. Dead Real (2022)

A mysterious 40 year old diary seems somehow connected to a recent string of murders which start after the re-emergence of a local villain. It is the setting of the fifth book in the Calladine & Bayliss series.

They are nice if a bit short police procedurals. In this case Bayliss is on pregnancy leave which leaves us with more Calladine time, unfortunately. As always, this was a nice quick read.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Another good one featuring Tom Calladine and Ruth Bayliss. This one had plenty of suspense and moved at a good pace. I loved seeing the two main characters again. This time Tom has problems aplenty as he is thirst into a 40 year old case, while bodies pile up when Vinny Costello seems to have returned. All of this while Ruth is on maternity leave and Tom is trying to work with an abrasive substitute.

I enjoyed the mystery, the characters, and the English village setting. Love this series!

More bodies and unsolved crimes in a small Pennine town near Manchester. DCI Callandine and some of the other members of the team from the other books in the series are on the case plus an abrasive woman from another division who is there temporarily, working on a different angle. These stories work best if you read the other books in order. I liked some of the characters but that Callandine is a one with his women - don't know how he does it! This is a gripping tale and not too violent, ideal for the more sensitive souls amongst us and would make a good holiday read.

I haven't read any of Helen Durrant's books before but reviews said 'fans of Angela Marsons will love this series' and I love Angela Marsons so I thought I'd give it a go. I'm normally dubious about reading a book in the middle of a series and realised this is book 5 but I thought I'd give it a go and boy I'm glad I did! I cannot remember the last time I read a book in a day! I couldn't put it down! Her writing style is so fluid and makes you want to read more! Even though it was book 5 you wouldn't have known, it recaps just enough for you to know what's happeneing but not too much if you've read her other books. I cannot believe I haven't read any of her books before! I was intrigued who the killer was as I knew it would be someone sneaky playing other characters but I didn't guess who it was! I'm definitely downloading books 1-4 to catch up! I know she's written another series too so I'm going to give that one a go! Thank you for letting me read and review this book, I've found a lovely new author to read 😃

This is the 5th book in the Calladine & Bayliss series but this is my first read by Helen H. Durrant. It's a short read but it was a little slow for me and didn't really keep my interest.

Thanks to NetGalley and Helen H. Durrant for an arc of 'Dead & Buried' in exchange for an honest review.

Dead and buried by Helen durant is a mystery and thriller read.
Annie Naden and her husband buy a remote country cottage at auction. It’s the home of their own that they always wanted, but as they begin renovations, Annie discovers a satchel in a dusty old hidden cupboard. Inside are the usual schoolbooks, now over 40 years old, and a girl’s diary. Among the record of day-to-day crushes and pop concerts, is a secret that may have had terrible consequences which are still resonating in the present day.

Detective Tom Calladine has problems of his own. A notorious villain, Vinny Costello, seems to be back in town, and the bodies soon stack up. With Calladine’s loyal DS Ruth Bayliss on maternity leave, he gets in hot water with one of Costello’s assistants, and must also cope with an abrasive new member of the team as they seek to untangle a complex series of murders.
Another great read from Helen. Love tomorrow Calladine. The story and the characters. I was guessing who it might be and I was wrong. Do hope there will be more from tom. Highly recommended. Definitely worth more than 5*. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book from netgalley.
