Up until around a year ago, I had never read any kind of psychological thriller, I was then given a book to try and from then on I've been hooked. This book didn't disappoint. Enjoyed every minute of it.

The premise behind The Loving Husband is excellent. However, something was lost in the translation to book. Plot jumps made it difficult to follow and it became less believable. Perhaps had it been a shorter read it would have held my attention better. I gave this a generous three stars

I should have enjoyed this book but it failed to reach through to me. The characters were unlikeable and the storyline just seemed not to go anywhere until the last few pages.

A complete stunner of a book. Absorbing till the very unexpected end.

Hugely enjoyable. I loved the setting, the slow burn of this novel. A cut above most domestic thrillers.

This took me ages to read, I kept picking it up and got bored after a few pages that I went and read something else.
I did not connect to any character in this book at all Fran was as dull as dishwater and I simply wanted it to end, though I took me weeks - sorry months! to actually finish it.

This story dragged out longer than I guess was necessary, it is simply a series of thoughts from Fran replaying the past, how she met her husband, how they came to live in countryside. But very little thought as to who might have killed her husband on their land and no regards to her or her kids safety by remaining at the house despite the police trying to move her to safe house.

One thing that irked me form the very beginning how could she go all through this book and not realise it wasn't her husband she slept with - surely no matter what dream like state you are in you would at least realise that - I mean come on.... I know I would! but then it shows just how little she actually knew her husband I guess...

Many thanks to Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review, so here goes:

I really quite enjoyed this book and have read several books all based around 'the husband's secret life' so was intrigued to see where this story would take it...

Fran and Nathan marry after a whirlwind romance and move with their 2 children, from London to Nathan's childhood home; an isolated house on the fens.
The description of the house is very atmospheric - you can really get a sense of its size, age and what it could be like to stay somewhere like that... that is until Nathan is found murdered within the boundary of the property and Fran is the prime suspect.

As the story unfolds we find out how they met and what secrets lie within their relationship ... did Fran really know anything about her husband? There are lots of unexpected twists and turns and it was a really engaging read.

As a thriller this was a mediocre read, It wasn't bad but it wasn't a 'Can't put it down' either' read.

I think it will be a marmite book, some people will love it and some will hate it. My opinion was it was ok.

Does anyone ever really know anyone else? This is what Fran is faced with - who or what is her husband Nathan. I wanted to love this book as it definitely sounded by sort of thing, but sadly didn't. Didn't care for the style of writing which was a bit clunky with the very short sentences, sometimes only consisting of 1 word. The main off putting thing was Fran herself, both before and after they moved. Was there ever such a boring non-entity as this - she could send paint to sleep! Nathan is also annoying and the local police don't exactly fill you with confidence either. Loved the cover and the descriptions of The Fens.

This novel is ok. I wouldn't say it was menacing or compulsive as described. Truthfully, I kept on reading expecting more to happen. However the story didn't pick up pace. There were no particularly likeable characters and the policemen in the story were rude to the point of abusive. I would not waste time reading this.

I had high hopes for Christobel Kent's The Loving Husband after seeing it on social media, but sadly it didn't really deliver for me. I felt quite indifferent about the whole story and unfortunately as soon as I turned the last page it became a forgotten story for me. That's not to say it's all bad, as there is enough of a hook to keep a bit of interest and it's a reasonable enough story but the characters are so flat and unemotional that I wasn't bothered what happened to them.

It is clear from the start that Fran and Nathan Hall have a bit of a strange marriage. It would appear that Nathan has only shown affection to Fran twice, resulting in their two beautiful children. Fran remembers Nathan coming to bed one night and apparently completely out of character snuggles into her and one thing leads to another. A few hours later Fran wakes up to find the bed empty and she finds Nathan dead in a ditch outside. The police investigate and predict Nathan's time of death prior to the time that Fran said he came to bed...so who was in the bed with her and how the devil didn't she know it wasn't her husband? Fran becomes the prime suspect in Nathan's murder and she doesn't help herself by keeping things from the police. As the events surrounding Nathan's death and the story of his marriage unfolds, it becomes clear that all is not as it seems.

All in all, it was a reasonable story with a satisfactory outcome but nothing really to write home about. I think I have read so many great psychological books lately that the bar has been raised quite high and therefore many books will fail to deliver. Although I'm sure some people will love this book, it left me feeling flat, apathetic and disappointed.

I chose to read an ARC and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

I couldn't finish this title - it seemed to me too derivative of other recent bestsellers involving missing people and unreliable female narrators. I'm a bit over them to be honest, sorry.

I found this book a bit slow and it took me ages to read, In fact I actually gave up half way for a few months then revisited it as I am not one to give up on books.

I didn't really connect to the story being told or the characters which is unusual for me. This didn't go down on my recommended list to my social media following, and it would appear that several had a similar experience with this book.

I have just finished this book. Fran wakes up to discover her husband dead.... as the book unravels there are plenty of twists and turns that really engage you with the story. I have seen some negative reviews on this, but personally this was one book I didn't want to put down. Give it go I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Really sorry, I tried twice with this book but just couldn't get in to it. Surprising because it looked right up my street, but we can love them all I guess. I won't be reviewing on my blog or anywhere else as I didn't finish it, but thank you for approving my request.

Fran moves with her husband and 2 young children to a farmhouse on the edge of the Fens, away from the hustle and bustle of London. One night Fran wakes up to find her husband missing from the bed and discovers his body outside. What follows is Fran's attempt to find out what happened to her husband and what secrets he was keeping from her.

To be honest this book didn't really grip me, I found it very hard to warm to the main character Fran and found some of the story unbelievable. The style of writing was a little confusing as well, with some very short sentences and the constant changing between one period of time to another made it very hard to keep up with.

Overall the book was a good read and I didn't guess the ending so for that reason I am giving it 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
