It's been a long time since I have read the first part in the series "La Cour des Roses", although I really enjoyed that book.

The second book couldn't live up to my expecatations after the first book. I found the pace very dragging and the romance felt like only a side story for me. I never felt the closeness or the emotional bit between Emmy and Alain.

What I really liked was the life around the guesthouse with renovating stuff and arranging everything for the guests as well as the house full of bubbly people. I really hope it will concentrace more on these parts in the third and final book. The setting in the French countryside was also very nice again.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the Publisher, Bookouture for this review copy given in exchange for an honest review.

This is Book #2 in the Little French Guesthouse series. I have to admit, I have read this series all out of order but to be perfectly honest it doesn’t really matter. Whilst it does have references to the previous book, it can be read as a standalone.

We return to Emmy and the Little French Guesthouse, who in the previous book has left her life behind in the UK and is now the new guesthouse manager. Emmy’s new job is full of challenges with a booking for a golden wedding anniversary. The family that are here for the anniversary are highly demanding, but with her new found friends she knows she’ll be able to cope just fine! But when the previous manager, Gloria returns, does she ruin everything for Emmy?

How nice to be back at the Little French Guesthouse! As in the other books I’ve read, Emmy is still as delightful as ever! You just feel so sorry for her as she seems to have all the bad luck! She seems to have so many ups and downs, but thankfully manages to cope with most of them! I love all the characters within this series, apart from Gloria. Gloria is as obnoxious in this book as she was in the first book!

There are some great descriptions in this book of the countryside, the food and the weather. They are so vivid that it makes you want to hop over the channel on the next boat! I was mesmerised by this book and could not put it down. A fantastic series, highly recommended.
