Interesting read - emphasis mainly on Marie’s life where there could have been a greater exploration of women’s rights, however still kept me interested until the end
I really wanted to enjoy this one since I tend to love a story involving HF and feminism. However, as often is the case, I found the execution of this novel to be lacking compared to what was promised. Also, the title is misleading in that very little of the novel involved the trial. My biggest gripe for the novel was characterization. The characters did not feel fully fleshed out, not even the title character Marie, and this left me feeling very little towards the characters or the story. I think this could have been a stronger novel had more time spent in editing and revision. I had hoped it would remind me more of [book:Burial Rites|17333319], but it did not and I recommend that one instead.
Interesting book. I like mysteries and legal dramas--this was both. Marie didn't have an easy life and most of those she thought she could trust, well . . . Things didn't end up as my romantic heart was hoping, but I kind of saw it coming. It was an enjoyable story with interesting characters.
I read this novel a while ago and had overlooked leaving a review.
This was excellent and totally different to what I would normally read. The only thing I would say is that I thought it would be a Court room drama, but was surprised to see that came towards the end of the novel. It didn't affect the enjoyment of the novel though.
