Recipe for Love by Katie Fforde

Recipe for Love was rather disappointing. Cher was so mean and so frustrating that it's like the author took every mean girl stereotype she could think of and rolled them up in to one person. I did like all the food and the romance with Gideon was nice, but nothing grabbed on to me and made me excited to read. I wish Zoe had grown a bit of a backbone, and I think that was my biggest problem with this book. I just couldn't respect her.

A classic Katie Fforde rom-com! Zoe is competing in a cooking show. She's got to deal with all sorts of trickery from the highly competitive competitors and with her feelings for Gordon, one of the judges. it's cute, it's light, it's just the thing to take your mind off the news.

Katie Fforde is one of my favorite authors. If I want a nice easy read, which leaves you with a nice feeling and one to relax with, I always pick up one of her books!

Recipe for Love is based around a television cookery programme - think Masterchef but is set in a old country house. We follow the story of Zoe, one of the contestants on the show. There are lots of devious tactics, false friendships and a good love story - one which shouldn't happen and which will keep you on the edge of your seats until the final page!

There is a great cast of characters within this book - I loved Fenella, the heavily pregnant owner of the house, and her husband Rupert. The contestants on the cookery competition were a great representation of the contestants that appear on our television screens. There were the television crew and judges along with the locals. Something for everyone to love and hate.

As with all of Katie's books, the writing is fantastic and the story plausible - I am sure there is lots of things that go on behind the scenes that never get to screen or the public find out about. I would love to be a fly on the wall of one of these shows.

I would recommend this book to all Katie Fforde fans but also to lovers of chick lit at its best. Perfect to relax with on a long spring afternoon or curl up with on a cold evening.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one - just like The Great British Bake Off in book form :-)

I enjoyed this Katie Fforde novel. I liked the premise of the cooking competition, and I thought the main character, Zoe, was great. There were also some great secondary characters, and also one of those that readers love to hate. The storyline kept me involved, and I loved the romance that developed. I'm looking forward to the next one by this author!

This was an interesting book. While I liked the story and appreciated the mostly clean aspects of it, I had difficulty really getting into it. It just didn't grab my attention and hold it. The story seemed to drag at times and there were details that seemed superfluous to the story. Overall it was a good read, though.

Zoe was a contestant on a cooking challenge show where there was only one winner in the end. She was a good cook but was certain that she couldn't win. She just hoped she would learn something and make it possible for her to one day own her own deli shop.

Gideon was one of the judges of the competition who met Zoe before the competition ever started. He was attracted to this "young thing" and throughout the show there was kissing and at least one sexual encounter but Gideon didn't sway the competition in her favor. He deliberately did not do that as to not taint the competition in her favor. However, one of the contestants, Cher, who was a nasty and awful person, was determined to not have Zoe win no matter what and nothing was beneath her accomplishing that goal.

I won't give away the rest of the story, but sufficeth to say there is a happy ending.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a great title for the beach or a cozy cold day. Fforde captures the romance with just enough suspense to keep her audience guessing.

You just can't go wrong with a Katie Fforde book. If you have read her once, you know what to expect. She writes consistently the same novel or close to it almost every time, but with different characters and settings. I don't mean that to be a bad thing. Some writers do this and it becomes tired. Others do this and it is done so well that it becomes comforting-something to rely on when you pick up one of their books.

Katie Fforde is an author that I read. I have read almost everything she has published in the US. I am a fan. So, I was disappointed with some of her most recent work. I did not feel that they were quite up to her usual level of excellence. However, with this book, Fforde once again proves to be a master at creating likeable characters, realistic plots, humorous situations, and happy endings. There a few authors who can create such delightfully quirky and charming characters as she does. I will read her and re-read her anytime.
