Glenda finally escapes her horrible abusive husband - but leaves her baby Johnnie behind. Frank is a kind man but is it enough? A good emotional read about tough choices.
This saga set after the Second World War, is pretty average. Harry and Glenda are married, they have a baby son named Jonnie. Harry is a bully with a jealous temper. Glenda is taken to hospital after a beating from Harry. She meets gentle porter Frank and they run away together. Glenda has to leave Jonnie behind which breaks her heart. Later on Glenda falls pregnant with Polly and the book then tells of Polly's story.
A sad story about sacrifice and loss with some wonderful realistic characters.
Thank you Netgalley and ARC. The story is based in the late 40's and set in Battersea and area where I grew up near and know well. Right from the beginning I was pulled into this story and could not put it down. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone
I can honestly say I never get tired of reading books by Kitty Neale and this one was another fabulous read. The story starts in the late 40's and again like her other books is set in Battersea and Kent. Right from the start I was pulled right into the story and didn't want to put it down. I highly recommend this book if you're a fan of sagas. My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC. I voluntarily reviewed this book and my opinion is entirely my own.
