Taking Charge is the fourth book in the Lone Star Burn Contemporary Romance Series and was provided to me by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book centers on the relationship between Lucy, who is trying to save her family ranch from being taken by her deceitful next door neighbor and the bank and David, the foreman for Lucy's friends' ranch. This seemed like insta-love on the side of David when he first meets Lucy when he goes to help out and a lot of dealing with her pride for Lucy. There is a lot that both of these characters have to learn not only about what they each are capable of doing, but also what it means to be a team and partners. This was an easy light read and recommend for any romance fans who are partial for cowboys.
Definitely liked the story on this. There was sorrow, intrigue, drama and humor all mixed in to make a good read. David sure had the patience of a saint, exactly what Lucy needed. I do wish she had been a bit stronger and not so back and forth about every little thing, but I guess that was part of the journey.
I received an arc from Net galley and I'm giving my honest opinion. I also have a purchased ebook because Ms Cardello is one of my regular goto authors
Overall the book is quick, nice to read and overall enjoyable. Having said that, I generally enjoy Ruths book, when there is a bit more drama and twist. In this story it was boy meets girl fall in love and that was it. I can't say this was my faves.
This book was a good read, with just the right amount of drama & suspense to keep you interested with the addition of humour & romance. What starts out as love at first sight for the guy not the girl turns into a real almost barn burner. David is trying to help Lucy see that he's the right person to help her with her ranch after ending an unplanned engagement. The secrets behind Lucy's hometown, her ranch & the reason her neighbour is trying to get it are confusing to Lucy but when David looks further into it he's surprised. The intricate story lines that kept us wondering what was going to happen, when it was going to happen & who would be on the wrong end of it was wonderful. I enjoyed how the story was told with secrecy, keeping us guessing. Recommend this book.
I enjoyed the story, but I don't think this is the best novel that Ruth Cardello has written. The writing, certainly in the first few chapters, seemed rather constrained somehow, and if that was deliberate, to reflect how uptight Lucy was - for me it didn't work, it felt a bit awkward. David has to be something of a saint for sticking in there while being pushed away so often.
But it is a sweet story, worth reading.
**My thanks to NetGalley and Montlake Romance, for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
This is the last book in the series but can be read as a stand-alone book, however by reading the previous books you get to know the supporting characters a little better.
Lucy has gone back to her family's ranch to take over running it after both her parents have died and her brother has taken off leaving her all alone with the failing ranch.
David has heard from Lucy's best friend Sarah that things are not going well and after initially going up and being refused stokes up a friendship with Lucy.
When he finds out that things have gone really pearshaped his protective instincts take over and although he treads carefully he is persistent and eventually gets that he wants, her.
The book is very well written and flows nicely with good character development.
Sometimes you read a book and it just doesn't keep you in the story and this is one of those books. I started this story and put it down several times. I'm not quite sure why. Perhaps if I'd read the prior books I would have been more engaged. This was just OK for me.
I thoroughly loved reading the wonderfully written with amazing and captivating characters, an engaging story line written by the fabulous author Ruth Cardello. I received a copy from NetGalley.
Read the highly recommended love story of Lucy Albright trying to keep her family’s Texas ranch by starting an online website selling sex toys and trying to resist the help of her sexy ranch manger, David Harmon,
