Travel, Christmas, and Paris! What more could a booklover want from a sweet romance, right?
I was interested in reading this novel because of the cute cover and winter and holiday vibes.
The story is festive and the setting is amazing. Overall, a super quaint read!
One Christmas in Paris is the perfect Christmas book, with characters that you grow to love, I really enjoyed it.
One Christmas in Paris is a wonderful read that I really enjoyed, it’s a lovely feel good book and I recommend it.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.
After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.
I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.
Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.
A very cute and fluffy book that was perfect for reading in December. I love Paris and felt like I had been transported their at the most magical time of year. I thought it was really well written and enjoyed jumping into a contemporary. Thank you!
So cute, as I thought it would be. The author has such a talent for drawing you in and keeping you hooked. Super sweet, can’t wait for more.
Thank you for allowing me to read and review this book. I am just not interested in this book anymore. Sorry for the inconvenience.
This is a wonderful Christmas story. set in wintery Paris. Ava has just broken up with her boyfriend, so she joins her journalist friend, Debs, for a holiday in Paris, the week before Christmas. They meet two lovely Frenchmen, Julien and Didier, who take the girls to many lovely places, for Debs articles.. Julien is trying to get over his sister's death, a year earlier. When he meets and falls in love with Ava, he starts living again.!
My thanks to the Publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.
I gave this feel good romance set in Paris an 8/10 or 4 stars.
I really enjoyed this story and it was pure escapism. It's a long time since I've been to Paris and the story made me feel as if I was there. Mandy Baggot knows how to tell a good story and this was definitely a good story.
Ava and her friend Debs travel to Paris, to have a break. Ava is nursing a broken heart and Debs would like to find someone for Ava to take her mind off her ex. To find out how successful Debs is, you'll have to read the story.
I really enjoyed the book, it has everything I love in a novel from start to finish. I can’t wait to read what the author has planned next!
I read Mandy Baggot's last book and enjoyed it but I didn't enjoy this one as much I'm afraid. I liked this book, just didn't love it. It seemed to never end! I did skim read some parts of it. I enjoyed the last quarter of the book but the first part going into hers and Leo's past I wasn't interested in although I understand why it was written for the reader to understand the meaning of the lock, it seemed to drag on quite a bit. I loved Deb's character, she seemed a good friend to have but the 'stalking' of her step dad was a bit of an anti climax and I think should have involved more 'detective' work by Ava and Debs and I would have liked to have read how Deb's mum reacted to the surprise, it seemed to come to nothing in the end. The storyline was good and I'm glad Ava returned to Paris in the end. I would look out for Mandy's next book and thank you for letting me read and review this book, look forward to her next one.
An escape to Paris with your best friend sounds like the perfect medicine for Ava to recover from a cheating ex, a nagging mother and the loss of a job. One drastic haircut later (and haven't we all done this once), a chance meeting with a handsome photographer, fantastic comic relief from best friend Debs all lead to a warm-hearted, feel-good tale. This book was good, laugh-out-loud fun. The characters are well-drawn, genuine and colorful, and the Paris settings are full of vivid images that have you longing for pain au chocolat.
You can't go wrong with a book set in Paris at Christmas time. Lovely book, lovely characters and a very lovely storyline.
This isn't my first of Mandy Baggot's books, and I have to say I love her festive novels. I loved the cover for this one straight away, it really caught my eye and I liked the sound of the story as well. I enjoy Mandy's books, and this was no exception. I love Paris as a city, but I don't think I have ever read a Christmas book set there before, so this was a first! It's the story of best friends Ava and Debs, who travel to Paris for Debs' job, and Ava trying to get over her cheating ex-boyfriend Leo. The two start to enjoy the sights and tastes of Paris at Christmas, and when they bump into French photographer Julien, they strike a friendship and the foursome (together with Julien's best friend) meet up for meals, with Ava and Julien quickly hitting it off.
I liked all of the characters in this book from the beginning. Ava and Debs were great best friends, with Ava being the quieter of the two, trying get over a broken heart. Debs was quite loud, brash and just trying to get her friend to move on from someone she doesn't think deserves to have tears shed over him! The pair get up to some fun, travelling around to see the sights of Paris, not expecting to meet some handsome French men while they are there!
Julien is hiding a bit of secret himself. I don't want to spoil it by telling you has happened to him, but it was quite a sobering part of the book, and I felt Mandy Baggot did well in tackling an issue like this. She goes into Julien's grief well, putting across his despair without becoming bogged down in it. His passion is photography, something he is talented at, but since his personal tragedy he hasn't taken any pictures. When he meets Ava, he suddenly wants to photograph her, reigniting a flame in him that has been dead for a while. This was touching as it opens something up in the pair of them, and allows the story to progress perfectly.
As I mentioned, I loved the setting of Paris. It worked perfectly for the book, and complemented the story, rather than it being entirely focused on its setting. The main sights are of course mentioned, and it was fun seeing them through Ava's eyes. I enjoyed the progression of the friendship of Ava and Julien as well, and how they seemed to bring out the best in each other. Their friends, too, were encouraging and I felt the chemistry between them all was perfectly written, I cared about them, and wanted good things to happen for them. There were a few touching scenes between Julien, his father and step-mother too that I must mention, I thought these were well written and really added to the story.
This was a charming festive read from Mandy Baggot and I'll definitely be looking to read more from her. It had a nice festive vibe, good characters who had their own stories, and came together to create a new one, and the pace, although not hugely fast and frantic, plodded along nicely, allowing things to develop fully. I wouldn't necessarily say it falls into the romcom category as the laughs weren't there, but it is emotional, full of thought and I enjoyed reading the whole story. Recommended.
Paris will always hold a special place in my heart and this book gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling.
The way Mandy writes about Paris, and its cuisine just makes me want to go back there. And as usual her characters are written with love and affection, but also humour. Well done Mandy it's another thumbs up from me.
Nothing beats a bit of wintry themed fiction.
Ava has just broken up from her cheating boyfriend and her mum wants her to go to Goa for a modelling assignment, but she doesn't. So she ends up going to Paris with her best friend Debs. There are cute Frenchmen involved. There is also a sad storyline about dealing with the loss of a loved one.
Baggot handles both the serious and the more light hearted storylines extremely well.
One Christmas is Paris is a sweet story about letting go and living in the moment. This book is sure to put you in the holiday spirit, no matter the season. Warning! This book will make your mouth water at the slightest mention of some seriously delicious sounding French food! In addition to making you hungry for something scrumptious, this book will make you want to pick up a camera and take photos, or pick up a pen and draw, or it will inspire you to do whatever you find to be artistically stimulating.
Ultimately, this book will make you feel warm and tingly inside while reading the charming love story of Ava and Julien. The themes of this novel include tragedy and loss, cheating and suspicion, and ultimately lessons learned. One of the most important concepts of the novel is that you should live life to the fullest and when you do experience the loss of loved ones, you should remember them with love and joy rather than sorrow. Embracing your passions and opening your heart to love will lend itself to a life worth living.
⅘ for this charming christmas story set in Paris
Really like Mandy's books. Look forward to reading more from this author.
Welcome to my first book review of 2017! Funnily enough I was reading Mandy Baggot's last Christmas book, 'One Wish In Manhattan', at roughly the same time as I read this one, but back in 2015! It must be a new kind of Christmas tradition for me, without me even realizing! :)
In 'One Christmas in Paris,' we meet Ava who is travelling to Paris with her friend Debs, under the illusion that her friend needs to work on some new articles for her job. Ava soon finds out she is on some kind of mission to find out if Deb's step dad is cheating on her Mum. Both girls know what it's like to see their parent's go through a divorce once, so even though Ava isn't one for hacking into emails and trailing random women around Paris, she will do anything for Debs and doesn't want her friend going through the same heartbreak again.
On the plus side Ava needed to get away, away from her Mum who keeps offering her modelling jobs that she doesn't want and an ex boyfriend who doesn't know when to quit, even though he cheated on her. Yep Pairs at Christmas time doesn't sound too bad at all and Ava is determined to have fun, find herself and eat as much Camembert as she possibly can. What Ava doesn't expect is to be caught in front of the camera again, this time by a gorgeous Parisian photographer.
I loved Ava's character in this story. What made me smile most about her was that she was determined to make changes to her life, to better herself and move forward and even when they didn't go exactly the way she had hoped, at least she did something. For instance, in an attempt to change her look and move on from her ex, she decides to get her gorgeous long blonde hair chopped off. Instead of a cute new hairstyle, she ends up with little blonde spikes, that she isn't completely thrilled with, but instead of crying into her pillow and hiding away, she gets on with it and owns her new look. Her determination seems to know no bounds, which I found very cool and inspirational.
I have to say though, my favourite character in 'One Christmas in Paris,' was Julian, the previously mentioned gorgeous Parisian photographer. Julian is going through a really tough time in his life and is finding it hard to get his passion back for taking photos, that is until he sees Ava and something changes. He's vulnerable, kind and sweet and for some reason reminded me of Italian actor Giulio Berruti, who I have been watching a lot of recently. Even though Julian is French, it still made me smile when I put the two together while reading. :p
The characters of Debs and Julian's friend Didier also added a lot to the story. The friendships they had with Ava and Julian were enviable. Each person was there for the other no matter what, they knew each other inside out and only wanted the best for one another. I loved that.
Mandy Baggot created a wonderful story full of heartbreak, passion, love and friendship, all with the cozy, idyllic backdrop of Paris at Christmas time. Christmas might be over for another year but if you're looking for a warm, fun, romantic book to kick off your New Year, I would highly recommend 'One Christmas in Paris.' :)
