5 Stars
I am a huge fan of Kelly after I read The Secret Daughter, so I was beyond excited when I saw A Mother's Confession on Netgalley. Kelly's books are intense, heart breaking and AMAZING! And let me tell you A Mother's Confession was just as amazing!
This book was narrated by two characters, one being Oilvia and the other being Ivy: her mother in law. I loved getting both sides especially with being a mother and having a mother in law. I must admit that I looked at my mother in law differently after having a son and more so after reading this book.
Kelly shocked me with this powerful book. The story opened up so many emotions when reading. I was shocked at times, enraged at others, sad at many and felt bad at a lot. This book is truly a emotional rollercoaster, but in the best way possible. It has been a couple weeks since I finished and I still think about this story and the characters.
Kelly Rimmer is seriously one of my favorite authors and A Mother's Confession is a 5 star must read. I can not wait to see what else Kelly comes out with, because I know it will be a 5 star amazing and well written book that will be on my favorite list!
Wow! Just wow.
I sat up for two nights reading - desperate to finish. It felt so real, I could feel the tension, the sadness - and the small pockets of joy and hope. It really was an excellent book that I cant recommend enough, despite the truly traumatic themes.
Wow - I loved this book. . It is the story surrounding the aftermath of David Gillespie's demise and told from the viewpoints of his widow, Olivia, and his mother, Ivy. .
Olivia is mother to baby Zoe and is finding life hard to cope with since David's death. He had dominated Olivia throughout their marriage and been violent. We find out more of the background through Olivia's meeting with her counsellor. David's mother thought her son was a blue-eyed boy who could do no wrong, although I guessed between the lines, she knew he was controllingtowards Olivia.
This book evoked many deep emotions in me - at times I wanted to shake Olivia and strangle Ivy. The tale develops into a complex ending which left me open-mouthed. An amazing book.
I have literally just finished this book and have tears in my eyes! A heartbreaking story of domestic abuse and how it can make the strongest intelligent person believe it is their fault. Olivia and David are married and have a baby together. Throughout their marriage, David has been dominating Olivia and hurting her, telling her it's her fault because he loves her so much. Through the story, Ivy, David's mother knows what is happening and at times encourages him to "Keep Olivia in her place do what has to be done." I found myself hating her for that. That is how believable the characters are. In fact, I don't think I have ever felt that realism in any book before. A hard story to read but underneath is the lesson that we can all become stronger with our experiences. They don't have to define us.
This is the first book I have read from Kelly Rimmer and it won't be my last! This was a heartbreaking story and very well written. This book was written from two perspectives in alternate voices of two women who loved the same man, David. Olivia, the wife knew a different man than Ivy, his mother. This book was an emotional roller coaster and beautifully written. Towards the end of the story you get an unexpected twist that made me gasp! This book is a must read! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Brilliant book dealing with the harrowing experience of domestic violence, control, loss and heartbreak. Love the psychology aspect and help through such an emotional time. Very well researched or sadly experienced.
A fast paced read with a great twist! Kelly Rimmer does not disappoint!
Domestic abuse, manipulation and deceit.
The story is written from a couple of characters perspectives. You have the wife's, Olivia's point of view and a mothers, Ivy.
Ivy is filled with bitter and unknowingly causes / caused her child's issues.
Why do we think someone has it better, that the grass is always greener, when it isn't.
I dislike Ivy with a passion - good writer to evoke a multitude of emotions! I had an inkling that something wasn't as it seemed, but when the truth is revealed, it's utterly heartbreaking.
I was quite shaken up by this novel; that anyone should have to endure such misery. The author was a genius by withholding information and drip-feeding clues, impressions and scraps of information that could be misleading. The format was between Olivia and Ivy in first person. Olivia has been a victim of serious emotional and physical abuse in her marriage and is now the bereaved wife with a young baby Zoe. Her behaviour is strange with sudden unexpected hostility. This is all rather puzzling (despite her trauma) and the baby seems to be too good to be true!!!! That was my first suspicion. The husband David is dead. No details of his death are given. I thoroughly enjoyed the sessions Olivia had with a counsellor which told the background story so perfectly. Ivy, his mother lived for her son David and could see no wrong in him. This distorted her judgement and took a mother's unconditional love too far. In addition she and her husband Wyatt were blinkered when it came to David and his marriage which led to far reaching consequences. Shocking ending!!!!!! I shall now post this on Facebook and Amazon. I have already recommended friends to read it. Meanwhile I must read another book by this author.
Great read and easy to follow story line. Look forward to reading more from this author
This is the first book I have read from this author and since finishing it I have now purchased three more, which shows what an impact it had on me.
The book is about Olivia and David and their baby daughter, Zoe. It is told from the viewpoints of Olivia and David's mother, Ivy, who thinks David can do no wrong. From the beginning it is clear there has been a tragedy involving David, and Olivia is finding the whole situation difficult to cope with.
This is a very emotional book and at one point it completely threw me, what a brilliant book. I can't recommend it enough. It is hard to say I loved it, given the subject matter but it was definitley a compelling read.
It's definitely 5 stars from me for this one.
