A interesting thriller which took me awhile to get into but when i did it did turn into a page turner and had plenty of twists that had me gripped
Thank you Netgalley for a copy for an honest review
Women who gave a child up for adoption are being killed. A knock at their front door begins a nightmare from which they will never wake up.
For Detective Ruby Preston and her team, it is a race against time to connect the dots before the killer can strike again. But when Ruby receives a sinister email, the case takes a terrifying personal twist.
Could the clues to the identity of the killer lie in Ruby’s own past?
Who can she trust with her secrets?
Really enjoyable read. Good characters and a Good story. Well worth a read. Think others will. Enjoy
I whizzed through this. Although it wasn’t as gripping as it promised and although it wasn’t “edge of your seat heart pounding” type read, it still had something there that gripped me.
It was the storyline.
This is what kept my attention.
Once started couldn’t stop.
I gave it 3* so don’t think this is a bad book, far from it. But it’s hyped as “gripping” “thrilling” I just wish they wouldn’t do that. Loads of books are presented like this now.
I personally find it annoying.
Not the authors fault though.
So don’t be put off.

An excellent procedural crime novel with a plot with a surprise whodunnit twist I didn't see coming and an intriguing personal element through our Heroine's relationship with ex-boyfriend and crime boss Nathan.
I'm definitely going to read more of this author's work.
Love You to Death (now Death Note) by Caroline Mitchell is the first in a new series featuring Detective Ruby Preston. Good sharp writing, well imagined scenes and a good creep factor.
RATING: 4 STARS
(I received an ARC from the NETGALLEY)

Other title is Death Note.
This novel reminds me of an Irish version of Karin Slaughter's Will Trent series. Ruby is flawed much like Will is and has a very unhealthy childhood love. Ruby also reminds me of Erika Foster (by Robert Bryndza) in her recklessness at times. As Ruby investigates the murders of women who gave up their children for adoption, her past comes knocking at her door. This book was a great introduction to Ruby and the end left me wanting to rip into the next book.
A serial killer is targeting woman who gave up their babies for adoption by pretending she is their long lost child.Detective Ruby Preston and her team are on the case but then she receives an email that gives this whole case a personal menacing twist . Will Ruby be able to capture the killer on time and at what cost to her professional and personal life ?
Detective Ruby Preston is a flawed detective in love with Nathan ,of criminal background , and sleeping with her boss.Somehow Caroline Mitchell makes the character work in this fast paced gritty police detective novel.Even though the end did not work for me I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading the next one in the series
I would like to thank Bookouture & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

Death Note by Caroline Mitchell is the first book in the Ruby Preston series. And, I liked it, it's a good first book. I especially liked Ruby Preston and her quite difficult home situations with her affair with a colleague and her on and off affair with an old flame on the wrong side of the law.
Now, I have to admit that the crime in this book, the abduction of the women that had given up children for adoption years ago did not thrill me that much. Sure, I found the book interesting enough and I was never bored. However, there is just something that stopped me from truly enjoying the story. Sometimes it's hard to truly explain why a book doesn't work 100% and this is one of them. It could be that we got to follow the perpetrators POV and I prefer to be kept in the dark instead of getting the killers POV. That works now and then for me, but in this case, well I was not totally enjoying the killers POV chapters. I much preferred following Ruby's investigations not to mention her problems on the home front. She has some secrets that she tries to hide, but it seems that someone knows about them...
Nevertheless, I don't want to be a total downer. I really liked the Ruby and her team. Sometimes the characters around the main characters can be a bit bland and hard to pick apart, but I enjoyed getting to know them and I'm looking forward to the next book much thanks to that. Ruby has as I wrote before a very interesting home situation and that is one of the aspects that I truly enjoyed about this book. That and the surprising ending. I have to admit that I did not see that ending coming.
Great first book in a new series and I'm looking forward to reading book 2!
This is book 1 in the DI Ruby Preston series and if this first book is anything to go by then we are in for a treat reading the others . I loved this book and it had plenty of twists and turns in it .
Veteran author Caroline Mitchell has released the first book in her Detective Ruby Preston Crime Thriller Series, Love You To Death. Ruby grew up next door to the Crosby crime family, and fell in love with Nathan Crosby, who grew up with an abusive but powerful father. Young and pregnant, Ruby gives their baby up for adoption at the prompting of Ruby’s mother. She has always regretted it, and so has Nathan. Twenty years later, Ruby is a police detective (considered to have gone to the other side according to Nathan and his family), trying to solve several serial murders where the victims have given up baby girls for adoption. The killer stalks the mothers, then shows up at their doors, telling them she is their daughter. If they don’t act the way she wants, she tortures and murders them, as well as other family members.
Ruby is slated to be one of the victims, and must solve the crime with her team of detectives before she is murdered herself. However, her team isn’t particularly trustworthy, and may be conniving behind her back. She goes against protocol and seeks help from the Crosby family to find her daughter, assuming her daughter may be the murderer; her job is now on the line, as well as her life.
Set in the outskirts of London, this novel is well-written, and the premise is unique. The story line is easy to follow, and it is a fairly fast read. Mitchell is a good storyteller, and definitely keeps the interest of her readers with unanticipated scenarios, which add to the suspenseful ambiance of the book. Of course, there are twists and turns, and the ending is quite unexpected.
Readers who prefer something a bit different from the norm will enjoy this novel.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to have read this brilliant offering by Ms Mitchell.
I’m currently on a Caroline Mitchell binge read, and this one was another one for the records.
This is the first book in the Ruby Preston series, and I can really see this going places.
The book was really very well written, and I can’t wait to start number two. Just wish Ruby and Nathan
could be together....... hint hint!
Gripping read from the start. Real page turner! Highly recommended
This book just blew me away - and I am very happy that I have the second book in the series already lined up and ready to read :)
Ruby Preston is a Detective, it is her job to uphold the law, but what happens when she is torn between the obligations of her job and the pulling of her heartstrings by a man from the wrong side of the tracks?
I think Ruby has one of the most complicated lives of anyone I have ever read about. She is strong, but she is very human as well. Her character was beautifully written and I loved all the other characters as well. As well as Ruby and her messy personal life, there is a very disturbing case she needs to solve as well.
This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through, I had no idea how it was all going to work out and I got so emotionally involved, I was sorry when the book ended.
Highly recommended read from me.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. Thank you to Bookouture.
Love You To Death is the first book in the Detective Ruby Preston series. This is my first read by Caroline Mitchell and I really enjoyed reading this book. It was well written and I loved the story line. Women who gave a child up for adoption are being killed. A young woman knocks on the door claiming to be the daughter that you gave away. Do you invite her in with open arms? For Detective Ruby Preston, this case gets personal. Especially when she personally receives a sinister email.
I have read other female detective lead books and I feel that Ruby Preston is the weakest. She seems more vulnerable and less of a badass. But overall I still enjoyed her character. This book is fast paced with twists and turns. This is a book where you won't be able to figure out the ending.
I enjoyed this book so much that I am going to read the second book in the series, Sleep Tight, next.
I would like to thank Net Galley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of "Love You To Death" in exchange for a honest review.
Ruby Preston, I love you!
So exciting to meet a fictional detective that you love when it's the very first in a series and I really loved Ruby. This was the perfect holiday read as it had a tangled storyline, great characters and a real mixture of convincing setting and believable characters. I absolutely loved it - If you love Val McDermid, you'll love this book.
And what higher praise could there be? Can't wait for the second instalment of Ruby's adventures. Hurry up please!
D.I. Ruby Preston and her team find themselves investigating the murders of women, who have one thing in common, they have all had baby girls adopted. We are taken to the seedier side of London, Ruby has childhood connections to a gangland family. I kept saying, I did not see that coming! The book is full of surprises. The characters are well written and believable. I really enjoyed this book.
Written well, likeable characters and good storyline. Cannot wait for the next book.
Simply loved this book! A serial killer book with loads of twists. Can't wait for Book 2!
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in return for an honest review.
This is the first book I've read from this author I'm intrigued to read more, that said I'm not sure about this one though I enjoyed the case solving side of the storyline I felt the personal lives side of the characters a bit lack lustre. The police team working the case was hard to bond with as though a few names were mentioned they seemed to become background for most of the book giving Ruby and the Crosby family centre stage.
I felt more in touch with the serial killer character and her crimes and this side of the story kept me reading, had some interesting twists to the story and definately didn't go as I had imagined it would
Given an average rating overall but haven't given up on this author as was certainly potential to build on characters
