A read that keeps you guessing until the end you get so caught up in Ruby's life that you miss the clues to what is really happening. Great book and looking forward to the next one
Pretty good read. Entertaining and suspenseful. Will keep you guessing until the end. Enjoyed it.
Don't believe the hype on the front cover of this book. Love You to Death by Caroline Mitchell is not an absolutely gripping thriller with a killer twist. It is not even a moderately gripping thriller....in fact, gripping does not enter into it. And the killer twist? I must have missed it.
Love You to Death has all the ingredients to be what it is promoted to be. We have women being abducted, tortured and then their bodies 'staged' for discovery in upmarket homes. These women all have one thing in common - they have all given up daughters for adoption. As has Detective Ruby Preston who is investigating the case.
But something is missing from the writing. There was plenty of scope for tension and OMG moments. It just didn't happen. Not once did I feel the quickening of my pulse as I read. Not once did I feel 'involved'. In fact, it was all pretty bland.
A very forgettable read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing a digital ARC of Love You to Death by Caroline Mitchell for review. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Great first book in this series. Can't wait for the next one.
Thanks for the advanced copy
WOW!
Whilst hanging my head in shame I must admit that this is the first book of Caroline's I have read but it WILL NOT be my last!
Caroline brings us a gritty, head-messing thriller which will really get under your skin.
Ruby Preston is a copper with a past, well actually, it's not so much a past, it's more lingering on the peripheral, just there, ready to bring her world crashing down at any moment and this adds such an intensity to the book and to Ruby's character.
Ruby is brilliant, she has heart, she has passion and she has balls. She also has my #bookboyfriend Nathan eating out of the palm of her hand, so I'm a little bit jealous of her!
I loved Caroline's writing, she really knows how to bring the characters to life and twist a plot so thick and devious that you will be left utterly breathless. I found myself unable to put this down, unable to stop turning the pages and completely shocked by the ending! I cannot wait to see what else Ruby and Nathan get up to, the future is really bright with this new series to look forward to!
I really enjoyed this book and am very much looking forward to the next book in the series and will be looking for other books by Caroline Mitchell.
Highly recommended.
Bookouture and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of Love You To Death. This is my honest opinion of the book.
Ruby Preston, of the Shoreditch Serious Crime Unit, has been asked by her boss to lead an investigation into a mysterious death of a husband and the disappearance of the wife. When it becomes clear that a third party may be involved, can Ruby and the team find out the truth in time? When Ruby's past catches up with her, will she jeopardize the case?
This police procedural thriller features a great main character. Ruby Preston has a checkered past, with criminal connections that can be a real asset in her job. The suspense builds throughout the novel, giving Love You To Death a quick pace and many thrilling moments. The biggest problem that I had with the book was the fact that there were too many side plots which muddied the story. Had the focus been on the criminal case, the investigation and Ruby's connection would have been more compelling. I would like to see where author Caroline Mitchell takes the character of Ruby into the future, so I will be looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
This book introduces us to Ruby Preston, a London detective trying to hunt down a grisly murderer. Ruby has many secrets - one of them being she suspects that the murderer may be the child she gave up for adoption many years ago.
This was a fast paced story with good characters- if at times a bit of a stereo-typed. However it was a very enjoyable read. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book.
Really enjoyed this clever storyline...can see lots of potential for this series.
An unforgettable, gripping and twisted tale by the deliciously talented Caroline Mitchell. Compelling and dark with wonderfully crafted characters, impeccably written with a captivating, unpredictable, explosive ending. Highly recommended reading for the crime genre lovers. Definitely one that will garner legions of fans and hopefully spawning a steady release of books featuring the brilliant Detective Ruby Preston. In short, a book that will grab you by the balls and won't let go. Loved it.
I enjoyed. This book from first to last page and did not guess who was committing the atrocities which is great . A very complex detective with a mix of vulnerability and hard nose detective. I would easily recommend this book .
Detective Ruby is working on a case where women are being killed. All have one thing in common, they gave up a child. It starts with a letter then a knock on the door. The sadistic killer has a script that must be followed. If the women disappoint its death for them and she moves on. Ruby receives a disturbing email and all of sudden the case gets very personal. Ruby isn't your usual cop. She grew up next door to Nathan , whose father was a very bad man. Nathan lives on the other side of the law. Not your natural bed partners. Even so he is a habit she just cant quit, and vice versa for him. As the case unfolds it starts to look like the the killer could be someone close to home. Ruby is prepared to do the right thing. I absolutely loved this book and couldn't put it down. It kept me guessing right to the end.
With over 100 5 star reviews on Amazon I am obviously in the minority here but I was disappointed by this book. I have read and enjoyed all of Caroline Mitchells Jennifer Knight series of books, so I was very much looking forward to this new series with Detective Ruby Preston at the helm.
I never connected to any of the characters and at times I felt I could have been reading a parody, particularly the Serial Killer chapters. The story itself was a good one and I hadnt guessed who the killer was but maybe that was because I found it hard to have much of an interest. I also felt that Ruby Prestons wasnt very original and I felt like I had read it before. Not much more I can say, I didnt get on with this one at all. Shame.
I loved meeting Ruby Preston, a fresh no holds barred hunch following copper .Magic!
The storyline was brilliant ,a labrynth of shifts and jumps throwing you off the scent when you think you are right there!
Fabulous steady characters, some I hope to see more of in future books (hint hint) 😊
Several times I got my heart racing when I thought I was about to find out the perpetrator, then a big deep breath and a new chapter to build up.
The tension can only be described for me as perfectly timed.
I am giving no spoilers but if you love to be scared and blood and like me having your heart rate so fast that your iWatch registers you as burning calories👍 Then this read is for you.
Another book by Caroline Mitchell that has both put me on edge and thrilled me at the same time.
Thank you I look forward to more Ruby!
Nice read and easy to follow story line. Look forward to reading more from this author
