Thank you for the opportunity to read this wonderful book. I honestly didn't know what to expect when I downloaded it, but I'm glad I did. It is absolutely brilliant, the storyline and characters where fantastic, I especially loved the fact it was based in clogherhead as it's close to where I'm from. It's such a lovely wee village. It makes the book so much more enjoyable when you know the place. Definately the best book I've read so far this year. Definately a five star read.

Wow! Disturning, chilling, and a real page turner! Kept me guessing throughout. One of the better books so far from this year.

A good interesting read with an unusual plot and some very complex characters. It was an easy read and one I was keen to find out what was happening.
The last few chapters let it down somewhat as the action scenes failed to make it clear what all the different characters were doing but I would still recommend it particularly as a good holiday read.

One of my favourites this year.

Jo and her two year old daughter are on the run. Nobody believes she is in danger. Even her husband thinks she's mentally I'll.

I read this book on the edge of my seat. The story is tense and leads to a terrifying ending. Brilliantly written, C.L. Taylor draws you in. She is now one of my favourite thriller writers.

Than you Netgalley for my copy.

When Jo Blackmore encounters a stranger who seems to know all about her and even has a glove belonging to her young daughter, it sets alarm bells ringing. A chain of events sends Jo spiralling into a world of police, social workers and doctors, when all she wants is for her daughter to be safe. Her instability and fear is the very thing which makes matters worse and she trusts no-one. This fast paced thriller is almost impossible to put down and has unpredictable twists throughout. Brilliantly written.

I got so caught up in this book, Its paced well and the storyline keeps you turning the page. Theres a great subtext about depression, and pulling your self through the darker times which is a really lovely, and positive message. Well worth a read.

3.5 stars.

This is a book of two parts; literally. Part one is like a description of a sudden marriage breakdown and events tied to this. Part two is more of a mystery/suspense.

Part one started with something so implausible (Jo giving the lift to Paula) that it put me off a bit. I couldn't quite get my head round the Paula angle.

Part two was far better, fast paced, kept me engaged and wondering what would happen next and I liked the sense of finding out who Mary was.

An enjoyable read.

Jo suffers from anxiety. Paula a woman that apparently knows Jo’s husband asks Jo for a ride, she hints that Jo’s husband Max, who is an investigative reporter has something that belongs to her and makes a threat against Jo and her daughter Elise. After this encounter, Jo’s anxiety goes through the roof and she begins to suspect she is being followed.

Jo and Max are having marital problems and when Jo tells him about the woman, he tells her he does not know anyone called Paula and believes Jo is being paranoid but when the woman turns up again Jo is convinced she is being stalked. Jo wants to involve the police but thinks they will not believe her. Unsure of what to do, she thinks about taking her daughter and moving away. Next thing we know the police and social services are involved and Jo thinks the only thing to do is run.

She and her daughter Elise make their way to where she was born in Ireland under false names but there is someone tracking their every move. The story follows Jo’s desperate attempt to hide away from whoever is trying to harm her and her daughter. This was the second book I’ve read by C.L Taylor and it exceeded my expectations. It was an enjoyable read that was gripping with a unexpected ending.

Another great one from CL Taylor. Dark and disturbing with everything you want from a psychological thriller. I power read in one day as it was a true gripper! Great twists that had me all over the place with who is telling the truth. Very cleverly written to spin you around a couple of times. Highly recommended. Thanks to NetGalley for review copy.

This is the fourth book by CL Taylor I've read, and I've always found her books very, very readable. The Escape is no different - immediately I was drawn in, hooked to the pacey flow and intrigued by the evolving situation the main character Jo has found herself in.

The book begins when Jo is approached by a stranger and asked for a lift - only once in the car it turns out that the stranger, Paula, isn't so random. She's looking for something that she claims Jo's husband Max took from her, and she's determined to get it back. Within the first couple of chapters, the image of both Jo and Paula is firmly and expertly set, with Jo cast as weak, nervy and anxiety ridden in contrast to Paula's tough, brash and bullying attitude. Taylor uses perfect dialogue and descriptions of mannerisms, particularly in the case of Paula, so that these characters are vividly realistic. I could see Paula -her stance, her facial expressions - so clearly in my mind. This continues throughout the book with the entire cast of characters, who each have their unique and distinctive voice and style, making The Escape feel almost like watching a TV drama.

The book is also interspersed with short italicized chapters conveying one of the character's thoughts and intentions. These sections are filled with malice and threat and are pretty creepy. The author also cleverly leads the reader down one path, before throwing a huge twist I didn't see coming and had me scrolling back through the ebook to see if I had missed something.

Jo is an interesting main character, I was torn between sympathy at the terrifying situation she found herself in and frustration at some of her reactions. I thought CL Taylor executed her seemingly irrational and declining grip on reality well, and kept me guessing whether she was to be trusted or not for a large portion of the book. I felt Max on the other hand, lacked a little something. I don't quite understand his actions and why he did what he did. I won't go into it further as to do so would give away the plot, but it affected the tension of the book slightly as I read it in my opinion. I did enjoy part two of The Escape, set in Ireland and introducing another well written character, Mary. I wondered how the two parts connected to begin with, seemingly two separate plots going on at once, and loved the way they eventually tied together.

The Escape is a gripping and accessible read with broad appeal. It's a once you start, you won't stop kind of read and you'll find you've covered a massive chunk of book without even realising it. With vivid and well drawn character's, it's a book which will play out in your head when you read and has enough twists to keep the reader surprised and intrigued. My kindle broke half way through reading this book, and I was so keen to carry on reading that I couldn't wait the two days that Amazon would take to deliver a new one, that I found a second hand one for sale on a local selling group and had a replacement in my hand within half an hour. CL Taylor is an author who knows how to hold her audience, and The Escape is no different. If you're a fan, then you won't be disappointed!

I really enjoyed this book. Lots of twists and turns leave you wanting to find out how it will end. I didn't feel very empathetic to the characters but I enjoyed the book.

Jo Blackmore who suffers from anxiety and agoraphobia. Gives a lift to a woman that says that she lives near by when her problems start. The woman Paula says she knows her husband Max and he has something of hers. If she thought she had problem they now have got worse. She evens knows her daughter Elise and threatens her.

She goes home but, doesn't get the reaction from her husband that she thought she would get, that Elise is in danger or anyone for that matter. Little does Jo know but, Max does know Paula but he doesnt tell jo that.

This is a tense, fast past thriller. There is twists at every turn and alot of paranoia from Jo that she doesn't know who to believe. The story makes you hold your breath in anticipation on what is going to happens next.

Another brilliant book from Taylor.

Jo is a panicky woman, so when someone comes and threatens her and her daughter Elise, her mind is thrown into overdrive. Jo is unable to leave the house because of panic attacks, so its a mystery as to whether she is being overly paranoid as all the other character's including her husband Max, class her as an over-reactive mother.

The escape is a fast paced page turner, and as the plot develops and twists I had no idea what would come next. It's hard to explain too much here without giving it away, so I'll finish with this. Clear some space in your diary or take this on holiday as you really won't be able to put it down.

I have read lots of psychological thrillers and I can say this is well above average. It is the kind of book which you finish quickly because it flows and you really want to know what happens next. It is the first book I read by this author and it won't be the last.

Jo has had mental health problems since the death of her unborn child, she is slowly recovering now that she has a small daughter called Elise and a part time job. An encounter with a woman starts a series of events that makes her panic and she also risks losing her daughter. She decides to run away with the little kid.

The book had many elements found in other psychological thrillers: mental health issues, being disbelieved and blamed for everything. And it has a few twists, I sort of guess one of them but it did not spoil the enjoyment of the book. If you like the genre and want entertainment for a few hours you can't get much wrong with this book.

Four stars is a very good score for me, I have only given five stars to a handful of books. This is not life changing enough to deserve five stars but as far as psychological thrillers go, it is a good one.

I could not put this book down. If I'd known quite how addictive I'd find it I would have started it a lot earlier in the day! As many other reviewers have described, it is a gripping read. I felt that I was grasping at what was happening all the way through, and although I guessed some moments, most of it came as a surprise.

I struggled with the main character, finding that I felt sorry for her but, at the same time, found her utterly infuriating. I could understand her reactions, and why she kept on getting further entangled in the disaster, and yet I still wanted to shout at her! Still, I identified with her feelings of desperation, and as she runs and runs to try and escape I just had to keep on turning each page to see what on earth was going to happen next.

Definitely compelling, and an enjoyable thriller experience!

Absolutely raced through this book! The first few chapters I was thinking - this is not like Cally. It's very straightforward and a wee bit unbelievable. Then "wow" it all came together. What a storyline and what an incredible way to gel all the characters together. I went from feeling sorry for one of the characters to realising how manipulative some people can be. I can't say any more without spoiling the plot. So just go buy it people. You will not be disappointed. 5 stars 👍❤

This book does what a psychological thriller should. Jo had a far from perfect marriage but when her and her daughter are threatened she realises she must escape and keep her daughter safe.even if it means that she has to leave everything she holds dear behind. Another great book from this brilliant author
