I first started the Geek Girl series years ago back when it was first releasing. I have really enjoyed every single book in this series, and I am so glad that I finally picked up the final book. I am really bad for actually finishing series, so I finally picked this one up in a bid to finish some of those series. Forever Geek was such a satisfying conclusion to this super fun series.
Forever Geek follows our favourite geeky model Harriet Manners as she goes to Australia for a fun few weeks. Thrown into a modelling disaster in Australia, you can expect just as much hilarity as I have come to expect in a Geek Girl book. I just love the disasters Harriet always finds herself in. Even though I’m sat there thinking… no Harriet… don’t do that! You also can’t stop reading because you need to know how this disaster is going to end.
Forever Geek really was an incredible end to a fantastic series. It had me experiencing every emotion throughout this book. I was in hysterics laughing on minute, swooning with the cute romance the next, and sobbing the next. It’s an emotional journey for sure and I loved each and every moment of it. Is the plot a little predictable at times? Yes, it is. But that didn’t take away from my enjoyment at all. Sometimes I just really enjoy reading fun predictable plots. I read for fun after all.
I am so happy I finally finished this series. Holly Smale is such a fantastic YA author and she is definitely one of my go-tos when I want a fun read. If you want a fun, laugh out loud series to read this summer you definitely need to pick up the Geek Girl series. It’s fantastic, and I’m really going to miss Harriet Manners and all her crazy escapades. Forever Geek was a brilliant ending to a fantastic series. This is definitely one I will read over and over again.
After being approved for this book I had to promptly go purchase the rest of the geek girl series as I had not yet read them!
I actually managed to binge them all within 2 weeks, and unlike other series that I have binged on, the characters did not end up really annoying me.
The progression of Harriett across the series was so well done and I love how much she has grown by the last book, but still managed to keep hold of her unique character. Because of this I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to my thirteen year old cousin who reminds me a bit of Harriett but sadly has been bullied in the past for being a bit quirky, I'm sure she too will have her day soon!
Forever Geek was a fantastic concluding book to the series and I really enjoyed it, even if I did get a bit emotional reading it!
A fantastic ending to the series! Harriet is such an inspiring character and I couldn't think of a more fitting end!
I think Penny Parkes is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. I started reading this on the train to meet a friend for the afternoon and once I got home kept going until I finished it. I love reading a whole book in a day but very rarely find a book that makes me do that anymore. Returning to the adventures of the Doctors of Larkford this has everything I love in a book. If I had to pick one of the books in this entry as one I’d recommend to anyone and everyone it would be this one. I read this before publication day and for the first time ever was really jealous of those tweeting their excitement to read it on that day because I just enjoyed it that much.
Forever Geek is a book I've been dreading and desperate to read in equal measure. I have been a part of Harriet group for years now and I didn't want to leave them.
Full of fun facts, howls of laughter, and lots of heart, this book had soemthing else too. I think it has maturity. I think Harriet is growing up and I'm so proud of her.
This epic series finale is perfect in every way. I feel contented, fulfilled and satisfied with the end of a favourite series
What a sad day – after reading all of Harriet’s adventures, I found myself reading her very last! In Forever Geek, the bubbly and enthusiastic Harriet – who sometimes makes the smallest of errors in social situations – is again travelling the world, trying to offer her own unique brand of help to her friends and family. Needless to say, things don’t always go to plan!
As finales go, Forever Geek is a fitting ending to a series which has been hugely fun to read, but that has also tried to convey the message that even though we’ve all got our quirks, with family and friends rallying around, nothing is as bad as it seems. There is also love, heartbreak and Harriet’s globe-trotting modelling mishaps, which do lead to some laugh-out-loud moments.
Without spoiling the book, there is in this book a real sense of Harriet growing up and dealing with some very adult situations and emotions within her family and in her relationships, and that is indicative of the series as a whole – Harriet was an immature young girl when we first met her, but as we leave her, she’s on the brink of spreading her wings and experiencing new things on her own – a real lesson for girls of her age reading this book!
Although it is a sad farewell to Harriet, this is a series that is always a joy to dip into and re-read which, I suppose, is the mark of a great set of novels!
It made me cry. A perfect conclusion.

The finale of the bestselling Geek Girl series is written in Smale's now-signature style - plain, straightforward, full of 'geeky' facts and chatter - and indeed, does little to veer from what Geek Girl fans will have come to expect. There are mishaps, misunderstandings, fashion delights and fashion disasters. Ultimately, Harriet's ending rings true for her arc, and though I think it could've been accomplished in three or four books instead of six, you can see why this series has been a hit with readers on the brink between middle grade and YA.
This is a perfect ending to the Geek Girl series -reading as an adult it's the book you wish had been written when you were a teenager struggling to fit in. Brilliantly written with a real sensitivity to the people it involved, it felt like being surrounded by friends finding their way in life.
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.
The Geek Girl series is one of my all time favourite UKYA book series, and even though I was sad that the finale was soon to be published, I was overjoyed at the chance to read an early copy, and dove straight right in.
In the final instalment, we see Harriet trying to balance her new boyfriend, Jasper, with her home life, as well as her fledging modelling career, which is neigh on going down the pan. When her final chance to succeed leads to a trip down-under, complete with best friend Nat, and wacky grandma, Bunty, she was sure there'd be no chance she'd run into her ex-boyfriend, Lion Face himself, Nick, because, well, Australia is a really big country. Isn't it? Obviously, that didn't happen, but Harriet has other things to deal with, especially when she believes someone close to them both is sick, and she can't do anything about it.
Let me tell you, I honestly think this was my favourite book out of the entire series. Harriet has stolen a part of my heart, and I don't think I'll ever me able to get it back. We've seen her develop, and grow, into the best person ever, someone who hasn't lost her ow wackiness and originality, and her geekiness. I truly wish I either was her, or knew someone like her when I grew up. Everything about her is so commendable, and I really believe this series is perfect for everyone, no matter gender or age. We should all read this series.
I think most people know who my favourite love interest for Harriet was, though she is a strong independent woman who don't need no man. I was really happy with this series, and how much of the time Harriet realised she was perfect on her own, and needed to understand herself, before she was truly ready for someone else. That being said, there were a lot of cute moments in the book in which I couldn't keep a smile off my face because of how shippy it was.
I honestly could not have asked for a better ending to this series. Small has completed the series, full circle, and Harriet is the best person she can be. Nothing has been left unanswered that needed solving, and I have absolutely no complaints about anything in this series. I'm sad that this is the end of Geek Girl but look forward to more from the author in the future. If you, or someone close to yo hasn't read this series yet, what are you playing at?! Get on it right away!
I love this series so I was understandably upset when I heard this was to be the last book in the series. Holly Smale gave it a fitting end to a wonderful series so even though it brought tears to my eyes I enjoyed it.
I've read all bar one books in this series (I managed to miss out on book 5) and this is a bittersweet but satisfying ending to the series that ties all the themes and threads of the series together to give Harriet the send off she deserves. I've grown less keen on these as the series has gone on, but I think they do a really good job of what they're aiming.
I love this series and this doesn't disappoint, quirky, fun and wonderful.
With a little help from a student who loves this series...gushing praise. I think it's an age thing, but I am surprised by how many of these have been churned out.
Ok you know I am a huge Geek Girl fan and so I went into this books with a heavy heart because it is the final book in the series. But I was also excited to see how Harriet was going to wrap things up, which of my favourite characters would be returning, and what trouble our Geek Girl was going to get herself into this time. This book has a fabulous storyline and features all our favourite characters returning, you name it they are there somewhere, and it totally had those laugh out loud moments that you expect from Holly Smale's writing, but I also cried more than once during this reading. Let me tell you one thing though, once you pick this book up, you won't be able to put it down! This is definitely a one sitting read!
Let's start with those characters. I loved that we had a healthy dose of Harriet in this story. She goes off to Australia with Nat and Bunty, therefore we don't have a lot of action with her friends of her family aside from emails and phone calls. I really liked that she kind of got most of the book to herself. It means that we have funny incidents involving Toby and Rin and Jasper and Harriet's Dad, but we get to see Harriet's fill reaction and her reaction to those people and how she strikes out on her own in this book really shows us how much she has grown over the course of the series. I also really loved the fact that it is best friend Nat who features with her on this journey. I loved Nat from the beginning and she and Harriet have had their ups and downs. It felt great to get a little bit of closure on Nat's storyline too, I really loved seeing them work together and grow together in this book and indeed the whole series.
Of course I love hearing about all the other characters in the book too. I love how they all contribute to the humour and to Harriet's growth and success. Bunty was an absolute star in this book and so many good on-liners. there wasn't enough Wilbur for my liking though and I really began to dislike Jasper, I don't know why, he just annoyed me somewhat! There are of course some hilarious moments in this novel and of course, this book comes with the usual warning of not reading in public because of sudden loud laughter after you read some of the things that Harriet does and says-social media virgin Harriet discovering Instagram-hello?! But this also comes with a warning not to read in public because you will cry, at least once! Now of course you will cry because the series is coming to an end, but there are other emotional moments too!
Overall this was a great read. This book has many pages but I absolutely could not stop turning them and this book really will stick to you once you have picked this up. Because this is the final book in the series, I don't think it would be the ideal place to start in the Geek Girl series, of course I would recomend starting at the beginning and working your way through but there is probably enough background and recap that you could read this book as a standalone, if you really and truly honestly must but I wouldn't recommend it! This book and series has it all, humour, life lessons, actual lessons/facts, a great main character who is totally relatable;grows with each and every book and just excellent storylines that will allow you to explore the world and see exactly what it is like growing up as a Geek!
Farewell Harriet Manners-you will be missed!
Every bit as good as the previous books according to my teen who has been dying to get her hands on the last in these fantastic series of books.
The sixth and final book in the Geek Girl series, this is the perfect ending to Harriet's story.
We have followed her from the awkward Geek who spends all day annoying people with facts to, well, the awkward Geek who spends all day annoying people with facts who is also now a top model. She has however, matured over the course of the series,
As ever there are plenty of hilarious moments, and Holly has managed to fit in many of the characters from previous books as a farewell. None of them feel forced either, as is often the case.
The ending is beautifully written, and even though I figured out what was going to happen, it didn't make it any less moving (tissues at the ready).
A wonderful series comes to an end, and now I can't wait to see what Holly Smale does next.
**This book was sent to me by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**
I don’t think I’ve really reviewed the Geek Girl books before and we’re now at the sixth book, but this has something to do with the fact that I marathoned the last three books in one week and I haven’t got round to reviewing them!
If you’re not acquainted with the Geek Girl series, they’re super fun books following Harriet Manners, Geek turned Model, and her friends including her stalker Toby and her best friend and fashion designer, Nat. There’s also the sultry Nick, Harriet’s fairy godmother Wilbur and the formidable designer Yuka Ito.
One of the highlights of the series (and this book) is Harriet’s family - they’re all great well-rounded characters and they’re so fun! It’s great to see them all return for the final book and Harriet gets some more time with Bunty, her step-grandmother, which is much appreciated.
This really was the perfect wrap-up to the series, with all the best characters returning for a really fitting end to Harriet’s story. If you’re looking for a satisying finale, there’s one here!
Although you might want to pack tissues, because I cried. I also apparently read this in one day, which should give you an impression of how addictive this series is.
I’ve loved reading this series and I can’t wait for more Holly Smale!
Numbers of times I lost track of where I was, while reading Forever Geek - Plenty, I have no idea where my commutes went
Length of twenty minute lunch break while reading Forever Geek - at least 30-35 mins, and I'm not sure I finished all my lunch yet.
In a world where there are thousands upon thousands of books vying for our attention, I'm not sure I know what the odds were that I cam across Forever Geek, or in fact any of the Geek Girl series, but I am so glad that I did. I also know that Harriet Manners would be able to give precise odds on that and many other unlikely circumstances, as is evidenced in this latest book.
Straight up if you have read the rest of this series, then you absolutely must 100% without a doubt read Forever Geek, the brilliant conclusion to the series, and you really do get a sense that this honestly will be the last book featuring Harriet Manner, super geek / model with the way everything is concluded, which I can't talk about as it would be spoiling it.
In fact I really not sure I want to say much about this book, purely as it is so great that I think it needs to be read for itself.
The majority of it is set in Australia just a few days after book 5 ends, and amongst other things in Australia, there are modelling opportunities, the boy she hasn't spoken to in 6 months and is adamanth she is over, nor will bump into, her best friend Nat and her fashion empire to launch, and Bunty her beloved grandma.
The first modelling assignment in this book, from start to finish is pure Harriet Manners, the loveable, well meaning character that I adore. She stumbles into a job, doesn't quite get the gist of what she is actually being asked, while her brain goes off at a tangent, and the consequences are hilarious, as is the whole nature of that shoot.
If you haven't read any of the Geek Girl series, then my best advice would be to start. Don't worry if you are an adult, I'm in my early thirties and found so much to enjoy with the series, and they are very easy and quick to read too. I love being able to embrace my inner geek, and pick up all sorts of random facts while I'm following Harriet Manner's adventures.
Forever Geek is the perfect way to round off this amazing series, I have read all of the six main books and loved every second of all of them. All I can say is I am really looking forward to seeing what else Holly Smale has for us, as I am definitely a convert!
Thank you so much to Harper Collins Children's Books and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
