I found "Rattle" an engrossing experience to read. Based around a mysterious bone disorder that I had not been aware of it concerned the abduction of a young child and previous disappearances of young children, all of whom had some sort of bone disease or deformity. The abuctor/killer was very creepy and the author maintained his mystery almost all the way through. Although I found the side plot involving the female detective's ticking maternal clock a bit distracting and it would have been refreshing to have a detective who does not suffer from some sort of personal dysfunction for once as this has become a bit of a crime thriller cliche, the plot was fast and intriguing enough to keep me interested right until the final moments and it was sufficiently different to other crime novels to keep my interest. I would be interested in reading Fiona's next novel to see where she goes next with her female detective.
A psychopath more frightening than Hannibal Lecter.
He has planned well. He leads two lives. In one he's just like anyone else. But in the other he is the caretaker of his family's macabre museum.
Now the time has come to add to his collection. He is ready to feed his obsession, and he is on the hunt.
Jakey Frith and Clara Foyle have something in common. They have what he needs.
What begins is a terrifying cat-and-mouse game between the sinister collector, Jakey's father and Etta Fitzroy, a troubled detective investigating a spate of abductions.
One hell of a scary villain - brilliant.
Fiona Cummins debut novel, Rattle, is an absolute treat for lovers of Crime and Psychological thrillers.
It's a gripping story that centres around a chilling serial killer I was very quickly pulled into this story and could not put it down until I read the whole thing from start to finish. The characters were believable and the way the story unravelled was intense and oh so scary.
This was an excellent, edge-of-seat read from a talented new author who knows how to build up nerve-shredding tension levels, I will certainly not be forgetting this story in a hurry.
I would highly recommend Rattle to all crime thriller fans. This story should also definitely be picked up to be made into a movie!
Thank you.
