Sorry I have not reviewed this book but I have lost a lot of books that I downloaded from Netgalley due to a disc deciding to fail on me. Checking through the books I have on my shelf I see that this one is a sequel and I have not read the first one so I do not think I will be able to review it plus that I do not have the book anymore.. Must of requested it by mistake. I am sorry once again
I'm not going to lie, at the start of this book, I was annoyed. Digby seemed like the type of egocentric character I usually hated. And obviously, it didn't help that I hadn't read the first book, so I did miss on a lot of the insanity from before. Slowly though, I began to really enjoy it.
As much as I didn't like the high school drama of it all, the cheating, popular kids and whatnot, the story as a whole was fun to read. I haven't had one of those in a very long while, so I highly appreciated it.
I didn't appreciate all the moments where Zoe would ask Austin (her boyfriend) to do all these favors for "her friend" Digby. The guy who apparently kissed her in book one and has her confused all throughout. The guy she isn't sure likes her but she definitely knows she likes him. At the same time, I didn't appreciate how incredibly smart she supposedly was with everything else in her life, but not her private life. That was OH MY GOD SO OBVIOUS. Which bothered me. Also that Digby didn't point it out, since he seems to now care about ANYONE's feelings to prove he's right.
However, even with all of that, the entertainment factor of the book was pretty high and reminiscent of Janet Evanovich's books when I used to read them. It was fun and quirky and I enjoyed it.
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.
Like I said in my review of book 1, I wasn't that impressed with the execution of the story, nor the characters, but as I had been approved for an ARC of the sequel, I decided I had to read Trouble Makes a Comeback, and I think I'm glad I did, as I preferred this one to book 1.
I'm not going to write a long review this time, especially seeing as it's been 3 years since I read it, but the dynamic between Zoe and Digby had definitely improved, and I found myself believing in their relationship and their characterisations. Zoe's dating a new guy, which does lead to a love triangle, but he was really more of a stand in for Digby, and there to add some tension to the story as a plot device. Yes, there was more humour in this book, but it was also a bit darker than previous books, with the story taking the turn of looking into Digby's sister's disappearance more. Yeah, I won't be reading book 3, but I am glad that I did read this, if not only to get a bit of closure.
This one was okay. I had a hard time investing myself in this one. I powered through to the end to see how things ended up.
I did not realise that this was a sequel when I requested it, because it was not made explicit at all. I enjoyed the 20% of the story that I read, but a lot didn't make sense.
After reading the fantastic Trouble is a Friend of Mine in 2015, I was excited to read the sequel, Trouble Makes a Comeback.
I didn’t review TIAFOM at the time, but I can’t adequately describe how fantastic it was – a real breath of fresh air with engaging and funny characters, but also a solid mystery plot throughout. And the ending, that kiss… Could Stephanie Tromly do it again with book two??
Yes!
I am hugely relieved to say that Zoe and Digby are back together, and getting into more scrapes and they are just as loveable a pairing as they were before. Digby is a fantastically written character – bluff, brash and unflappable on the surface, but really just as vulnerable as any teenager, perhaps more so because of his quest to find his abducted sister. That also is a great aspect of this book, in that it is readable on its own, but introduces more information to help Digby in his search and – hopefully – points the way to a book three!
It really is a shame that this book is such compulsive reading as I finished it in no time at all – perhaps I’ll just have to go back and read both again…
This is the second book in the series.
However I wasn't fortunate to read the first book so I felt I missed out on learning about the characters, their relationships with one and other and the opening story.
Although Stephanie has briefly recalled some of the previous story I don't feel this was enough to be able to really get to grips with what I had missed.
Digby and Zoe are the main characters.
From what I can understand Digby's younger sister was taken and Digby sets out to find her.
I gather that Zoe and Digby have some chemistry as he kisses her before he disappears to find he's sister.
Zoe now has a new boyfriend Austin and the two boys compete for her attention.
I enjoyed this book it was fun and easy to read. I enjoyed Zoe and Digby's relationship they make a great strong team. Digby seems to be the driving force and Zoe seems not so confident to start with. I have a feeling this has something to do with Digby leaving her.
The story is a little bit crazy and lots going on. It had me laughing which is always a good sign.
I wish I had read the first book, I feel I have missed out on a big chunk of the story.
My review is vague as I don't really have much to compare. If I had of read the first book I'm sure this review would have much more content.
It's a great book, but I don't recommend reading this book first.
I hope to read the first book as judging by other reviews the first book is fun and full of humour.
This book is populated with fun and wonderful characters. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Zoe and Digby but I was particularly taken by the misfit kids who made up the rest of the gang. The writing in this is really fun, witty and heartfelt and it certainly made for an adorable read. The story is incredibly fast paced and as far as contemporaries go, it has all the gooey parts that make for a good read.
