I loved this book. It bought back so many memories of the stories my mum used to tell me about growing up in the East End. Gilda O'Neil always brings it back to life because she was there too. Growing up amongst the harsh realities of life as a backdrop but the people were the best and the times they lived in bought the best out in most.. Another great read.

A lively first-person narrative which really brings the old East End to life with all its energy, humour, hard work and privation.

Gilda O'Neill looks back on growing up in the East End and, as well as remembering clearly, provides a commentary from her mature self on the economics, the values and the motivations which probably escaped her at the time. She also shares her knowledge and research into the changes which have take place more recently and the impact on the people of the East End. She recounts many stories she has gleaned from other East Enders, providing a rich and multi-faceted story which is probably unique.

Although I was provided an advance reader's copy of this book, I actually did not read it and therefore cannot provide feedback.
