I wanted to love this book - truly I did. But it was like an awkward first date - something just didn't quite 'work' for me. The story was one that I thought that I'd absolutely love and it was well written ... but there was just something about the narrative voice that didn't grab me that kept putting me off. I wanted to find Miss Vine to be a Daphne duMaurier type Mrs Danvers but again was disappointed. I finished it wit some regret and I know that it will be of appeal to lots of people as it was a well-written book; just sadly not for me.
