Phillipa Ashley writes novels that are wonderful escapes from daily life. They are set in an idyllic and picturesque Cornwall with nice settings and characters with whom to enjoy spending time. The novels are part of a series but can be read in any order.
This story centers on Cal and Demi. They are opening, what they hope will be, a popular wedding venue. Things are about to take off in a big way when the first customers are a celebrity couple. No suprise…there will be some challenges. Will there by happy endings at Kilhallon Resort? Read this story with its fun plot and characters to find out. Perfect for when you need some me time.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for this romance. All opinions are my own.
This was a funny and lighthearted read initially, until the story unfolded to have a more serious theme to it. I loved the characters, and it’s especially fun if you are an animal lover! Planning a wedding is so much fun and this book really brought the experience to life. I will leave you to find out who if any of the couples have a happy ever after.
I came across Phillipa's book via Netgalley (I think I read the second one) and fell in love with her style (very easy to follow) and gripping story.
I like reading about Demi/Cal, and their little resort development. It's a great story, and I secretly wish they'll make mini movie/play/series.
I really enjoyed reading about Cornwall, and attention to details. She also includes recipes (bonus element).

A feel good relaxing summer book! I fell in love with Cal, Mitch and Demi, and their life at Kilhannon!
A Cornish Café series which is set in a beautiful part of the world is full of charm and wholesome real characters. A delight to read.
I made a point to read the first 2 books in the series, and am happy I did, as I believe it adds to the enjoyment. I liked this book with it's lovely Cornish setting, and of course, the love story of Demi & Cal. There is lots to like about this book including the excitement and challenge of hosting a celebrity wedding at Kilhallon, restoring family relationships, and a satisfying end to Cal's search for a little girl lost in far away Syria.
This was a cute book - it is the first of the books that I read in this story. You do not need to read the other 2 to enjoy this book, but I think you may enjoy it a bit more if you do. I plan to go back and read them, because I think it will make me appreciate the "wrapping up" of the character's stories that happens in this book, the 3rd of a series.
The book opens with Demi and Cal, in love and living together and running Kilhallon Resort together. They are approached about hosting a big celebrity wedding, and that is what the majority of the story is about. Of course, there are minor disasters that threaten to derail the wedding preparations along the way, but what really struck me was the way that everyone came together, despite their difficult histories to pull it all together. And the ending was a bit of a pleasant surprise.
What appealed most to me about this was the setting and mood of the book. There is something very comforting about a quaint little cafe and resort near the water, off the beaten path. Chamomile tea is often offered up as a way to calm down and relax, and there is something about the cafe that takes me back to lazy weekend days at my grandmother's house when I was growing up.
Absolutely loved it! Having read the other books in the series, I've completely fallen for the characters in this collection of books about Demelza's cafe and Kilhallon. It follows Cal and Demi as they launch Kilhallon as a wedding venue. Throw a few celebrities into the mix, the meddling local land owner and a few more surprises along the way and you have a heartwarming yet funny read.
A lovely feel good book, I read this book in just 2 days. I love a good chick lit and this didn't disappoint. The story unfolds around a couple of are starting to get their business off the ground, how life keeps giving them knocks and people are trying to cause them issues but with all happy ending stories shows how love always wins in the end. I love Cornwall and the beach is my favourite place so this story was made up of many components that made it a lovely feel good read.
Although this is the 3rd book in a series there is a short chapter at the start which catches you up on everything you missed so that even if you haven't read the previous books you can still enjoy this one.
I love Phillipa Ashley's writing and her characters are always well developed and interesting to read about. The plot was relatively simple but engaging and I very much enjoyed reading it.
A good summer read.
This is the third book in the Penwith trilogy and is a lovely way to finish off the story. In this book we see Cal and Demi trying to get their wedding business off the ground. Their first wedding is for a very high profile couple and trying to keep the details private are difficult especially when there is a certain person going out of their way to cause trouble!
This is a very enjoyable easy read and the perfect ending to a lovely series. I must say that I will miss Demi and Cal as they are the perfect couple and it was always a pleasure to delve into their story again!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Cal and Demi have settled into life living together at Kilhallon and are gradually building up the business and becoming ready to take on weddings. Their first wedding however is for oen of the biggest celebrity couples around Lily and Ben....have they taken on more than they can chew in their first venture......it definitely won't be plain sailing!
Lily is lovely and has a great little dog Louie but Demi is not so sure about Ben....especially when she finds out that he is friends with her arch enemy Mawgan Cade and even wants her to be a bridesmaid......she is sure to try and put a spoke into proceedings!
A great final book in the trilogy - still full of great characters, stunning surroundings and fantastic food in the café - a lovely warm light hearted beach read
Confetti at the Cornish Café was simply the perfect ending to a brilliant series which has been filled with such warm, lovable characters who all experience their ups and downs but that's what makes you root for them even more. The story is infused with warmth, understanding and humour and before you know it you wish you could move to the resort or surrounding areas and have Demi and Cal as friends. Now is the right time to end the series as writing any more would be stretching things just that bit too much and I would hate for any of the warmth and magic to be lost. I'm sad to leave the characters behind but how everything all panned out was just the way I wanted it too. If you haven't read anything by Phillipa Ashley before don't hesitate in the slightest in picking up this book. It's a truly gorgeous read.
4☆ Feel good fun Read.
This is the 3rd book in the Series.
I wasn't fortunate enough to have read the other two books but this one is a stand alone book.
I don't think it hindered my enjoyment as there was enough back story to be able to follow with ease.
However I do believe to get the true feel to this beautiful book reading the other two books would help the reader to engage more with the characters. As with every series, characters and relationships are developed a long the way. Plus the Kilhallon holiday park has alot more I want to learn about.
Demi and Cal own Kilhallon a holiday park. They have just decided to expand their business to cater for weddings.
So when they get their first booking they are delighted... except it is a famous film couple... I mean what could possibly go wrong! After all keeping the famous wedding a secret should be easy... right??
Celebrities are never easy but planning the perfect wedding should be.
Confetti at the Cornish Cafe is a fun read, we all love a celeb wedding so being part of one is fun. The mishaps and dramas make it even more enjoyable.
With Romance and Love in the air, will it last and how far will Demi and Cal go to make the new venue a success.
This is the perfect summer read. Fun, romance, mishaps, drama, heartwarming, warm, feel good read.
Phillipa literally transports the reader right into the pages of the wedding. Very cleverly written.
Perfect for lovers of Chick Lit, Rom Com, weddings, celebs, romance, Summer reads.
Just over a year ago I as introduced to Penwith and to Cal and Demi, in the first of this trilogy. I returned there at Christmas and I was more than thrilled to complete their story with the last of the trilogy Confetti at the Cornish Cafe.
First off I need to say that you really must go back and read books one and two before you start on this one. There is enough to reference back so you get a sense of the characters and the journey they have been on. You can read it without the history of the other two, but I feel that you will not get full enjoyment out of the book as you could. Satisfying the author does not simply regurgitate the previous two books so you get a sense of place, she simply refers concisely and succinctly.
With Kilhallon Resort expanding and find its feet as a unique destination for a break and some escapism. Demelza's the on site cafe which is also open to locals who wish to walk past and experience the atmosphere, the views and of course the cakes is going to be the place to be seen if you are anyone that is anyone!
Demelza's and Kilhallon is going to be a wedding venue, for a not so secret wedding. Of course they can cope, Cal and Demi can turn their hands to anything, as Demi tells the happy couple. It seems that to satisfy the bride and groom they are going to have to pull out all the stops to make sure it does not leave the wrong impression.
Of course you know it is not going to run smoothly and not everything is going to come up smelling of roses, in fact the opposite as it seems there are quite a few more people involved in this wedding as well as the bride and groom and they all want different outcomes.
Cal and Demi have some difficult times ahead, and whilst trying to manage all of this they are both trying to find a place and purpose in life and they are both not sure if it is together.
Surely organising a wedding can make them see something?
The third and final book of this trilogy is as good as the previous two and I am going to miss reading about how Kilhallon Resort is developing and of course Demi, Cal and the ensemble supporting cast who have made these books a thoroughly good read.
Confetti at the Cornish Café by Phillipa Ashley
It’s always a sad moment when you come to the end of a beloved series. Harry Potter, the original Star Wars Trilogy, and my latest – ‘Confetti at the Cornish Café’ is the third and final book in the ‘Cornish Café’ trilogy; unless Phillipa can be persuaded to keep them going? But would that be a good thing? All good things come to an end, is a very true saying and some things go on way past their sell-by-dates. This is not the case here.
I have enjoyed, to say the least, Ms Ashley’s tales of Demi and Cal and the third, unusual but certainly important character, Kilhallon (the estate in Cornwall the story is mainly set). There are many books where the location is important, but few that earn the right to be counted as a character in their own right (Mandalay in Rebecca comes to mind). I want to visit Cornwall again now to try and search it out, but know that despite the beauty of the county, I’d be disappointed.
Ms Ashley has been extremely clever with her pacing of these novels as hints have been dropped about the cause of Cal’s behaviour, which were revealed in ‘Christmas at the Cornish Café’, but here we finally get to meet the little girl from his past that has so affected him, and the way it was written brought tears to the eyes of this reviewer. But what about Cal and Demi you ask? Do they finally get together?
Well, they already are at the start of the book, in that they’re living together now. But the title of the book? Suffice to say, all revolves about a celebrity wedding taking place at Kilhallon, though all is not quite how it appears. Old enemies try to stir things up, relationships are not what they seem and, I could go on and on, but I won’t.
If you enjoyed the first two books, then you’ll be thrilled to continue your adventures and yes, this can be read as a stand-alone book, but things will make more sense if you read the first two.
I very much look forward to reading this author’s next novel. She’s a gem!
Cal and Demi's story continues in this book. Although it is a bit deeper than the previous 2. Cal and his experiences in Syria come to the fore once more and Demi's relationship with her father improves throughout the book.
Mawgan is up to her usual shenanigans and you begin to wonder if the wedding of 'Bonnie & Clyde' will ever happen!
Lovely twists at the end and I, for one, had tears in my eyes.
I love Phillipa's books and was grateful to receive an ARC in exchange for an honest review. She was one of the first authors to influence my change of genre from crime & thriller to romance and romantic comedy. I read both now, but will always remain a fan of Ms Ashley!
The prologue does a great job of introducing Demi and the main facts that have taken place in the previous books. Everything feels natural as Demi ponders everything that has happened in the past. This way I don't think that it is totally necessary to read the other books in the series. However I have really enjoyed getting to know Cal and Demi and I am certain you would too.
It was so easy to fall back into Demi and Cal's lives it was if no time had passed at all. I was pulled right in and didn't want to leave Kilhallon and the people who live there. I love Cal and Demi they are just perfect for each other and I thought it was lovely that they seemed more settled although to be fair it isn't all smooth sailing. It's such a lovely connection that Cal and Demi share and it's wonderful seeing them working as a team to make Kilhallon a success.
I also enjoyed seeing more of Demi's family included, it was a great addition to the storyline. As usual Mawgan is the perfect character that you love to hate, it just wouldn't be the same without her!
There were so many complications of arranging a wedding sorry Handfasting! I felt so sorry for Demi having to make everything work and having to deal with all the trouble that the event brought. Demi is so determined to put the wedding together and I just hoped that everything would turn out ok. There are a few emotional parts within the story especially involving Cal. I really hoped that he would get some closure and that the ending would be a happy one.
A comforting and heart warming story!
With thanks to Avon Books & Netgalley for my copy. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.
A good read. A follow on from the previous book. Readers will enjoy the book more if they have read that book first. A gentle tale of love and friendship which unfolds slowly.
This is the third book in The Cornish Cafe Series from Phillipa Ashley. When I picked up the first book in the series, Summer at the Cornish Cafe, I had no idea how I would be drawn into the story and the lives of the characters therein. All of these books have proved compelling reading, and I have been aching to read this final chapter since I read the last word of the previous 'instalment'. Fortunately, Phillipa had the foresight to provide a helpful prologue to remind readers of what had gone on before, or to inform anyone who had missed the first two books of relevant history. That and reminders within the text as the story progresses make this book easy to read as a standalone.
In this third part of the story, we continue to follow the ups and downs of the main characters, Cal and Demi, as they work together to return Cal's family home and holiday complex of Kilhallon to their former glory. As part of the renovations, an old barn has been converted into a cafe that sounds a lovely, cosy location in which to enjoy a refreshment and soak up the spectacular view. As in previous parts of this series, we are treated to wonderful Cornish scenery, cream teas and other mouthwatering goodies in addition to the rest of the action. The problems and triumphs that the central characters meet along the way this time include staging a celebrity wedding ceremony to eclipse all that have gone before. Can everything be ready in time to the exacting requirements of the bride and groom? At the end of the book, Phillipa has added a few recipes to enjoy, including some delicious sounding cocktails and desserts.
I have found all of these stories really enjoyable. They are full of absolutely believable characters, most of them lovely, but a couple of them purely evil. The Cornish coastal setting is, of course, quite magical, and so well described that I could almost imagine myself swimming in a beautiful Cornish cove. This book would make lovely summer reading, but I would recommend reading all three in the trilogy. I know I am going to miss Cal and Demi.
Thank you to Netgalley, Phillipa Ashley and Publishers for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance reader copy of this book.
You can find my review on both Goodreads and Amazon. On goodreads.com/karenwhittard and on Amazon under k.e.whittard from publication date.
So wondeful to be back at the Cornish cafe and to catch up with friends. This is the perfect sequel book. Full of happily ever afters and lots and lots of love. Absolutely wonderful
I have purchased and read the other ones in this set and enjoyed them. This one was no different, Demi and cal are perfect, all the others characters add to the story and can't wait for the next one
A very well written book. I loved the plot and the Cornish Coast setting. A new author to me but I intend to check out other books.
Cal and Demi are getting ready to have their first wedding at their Kilhallon Resort, and this will be a doozy, the wedding of two celebrities. This affair could make or break their fledgling business, and while Cal and Demi can control the food and flowers at the wedding, they can’t control the weather or the behavior of the bride and groom and their guests. A lovely, light-hearted summer read and a trip to lovely Cornwall
