I really enjoyed this book , so much so I read it in one sitting pretty much , and though I loved the slow build of the relationship between Daniel and Molly it was the dogs and their owners relationships with them that warmed my heart the most . A really enjoyable tale and I will certainly seek out more ! I love New York and this book transported me back there ! Thank you for the opportunity to read this .
Book Review: New York, Actually.
There is an entertaining twist in the tale (or should that be tail) early in Sarah Morgan’s new book, New York, Actually – don’t worry, I won’t give any more away but it definitely made me chuckle.
I’ll say right off the bat that I’m an avid reader of her novels and this is, in my opinion, her at her very best.
The characters hook you from the start and it’s so well written that by the end you’re rooting for them both because they feel like friends.
Here’s the blurb:
Meet Molly
New York’s most famous agony aunt, she considers herself an expert at relationships…as long as they’re other people’s. The only love of her life is her Dalmatian, Valentine.
Meet Daniel
A cynical divorce lawyer, he’s hardwired to think relationships are a bad idea. If you don’t get involved, no-one can get hurt. But then he finds himself borrowing a dog to meet the gorgeous woman he sees running in Central Park every morning…
Molly and Daniel think they know everything there is to know about relationships…until they meet each other that is…
It’s fast-paced, emotional, funny, warm, romantic and oh so sexy.
The chemistry between Molly and Daniel is palpable from their first meeting and it just keeps building. It’s thrilling to witness because we also know that underneath it all there are secrets (so many secrets) on both sides that, eventually, have to come out.
As a dog person, I loved the added dimension of the two pooches – and especially learning more about the humans from the way they interacted with the animals.
While this book follows two new characters and is a standalone, it is number four in the From Manhattan With Love series, which means we also catch up with some familiar faces – as well as try and work out who might feature in her next book (please let it be Fliss and Seth!).
Sarah’s Twitter profile gives a warning: “My books contain optimism and scenes some readers may find uplifting.”
That’s exactly how I felt when I finished. Do yourself a favour and buy it today.
Format: Kindle.
Price: £4.49.
My rating: Five stars.
With thanks to Harlequin UK for the ARC (via NetGalley) in return for my honest opinion.
Ive read all of Sarah's from Manhattan with love books and this was was just as amazing as the others. If only love was as Sarah writes it I'd would happily have her write my love story ;)
Can't wait for the next two books :)
Another great book by Sarah Morgan. We meet Molly and Daniel who "accidentally" into each other in Central Park jogging with their dogs. Molly is a famous but secret agony aunt and Daniel who is a divorce lawyer. Neither want a serious relationship and both have their own secrets. Can they overcome everything that's thrown at them.
I loved this book and couldn't put it down. Also briefly introduced to previous characters which was nice to see what they were up to but you can read this book as a stand alone.....
It was great. Thanks Sarah for another great book.
Molly is a relationship expert, as long as it isn’t her own. The only love in her life is her Dalmatian, Valentine.
Daniel is one of New York’s top divorce lawyers, something he’ll never need because he doesn’t do relationships.
When Daniel sees a gorgeous woman running in the park with her dog, he finds himself borrowing a canine companion to join him on his morning runs also.
Do Molly and Daniel know everything about love, or are there a few things they could teach each other?
I simply can’t get enough of Sarah Morgan’s ‘From Manhattan with Love’ series and this instalment didn’t disappoint! I loved reading about this new set of characters and it was nice to learn more about Fliss and Harriet.
The burgeoning relationship between Molly and Daniel is a joy to follow, with realistic ups and downs which isn’t often typical of this genre. Morgan always manages to create such truthful characters full of endearing charm but balanced with believable flaws. Even Valentine and Brutus were brought to life and made for loveable supporting characters.
Once again, I found myself rushing through the pages and wanting to slow down at the same time to savour every word. Absolutely cannot wait for more!
This is the second novel that I have read of Sarah Morgan, and it is full of charm. Set in New York, we have Daniel, a divorce lawyer, who is keen to become acquainted with this woman that he sees running in Central Park with her dog. He thinks the way to do it is to borrow a dog from his sisters, Fliss and Harriet, and so he runs with a German Alsation, a dog he struggles to control. Molly is a psychologist, who relocated to NYC after a disastrous set of events occurred. The only man in her life, is Valentine, her beloved dalmation dog. Not interested in a relationship, Molly keeps busy with activities like cooking, salsa and spin classes. However, she has a successful blog and book under the pseudonym of Aggie, an agony aunt. She guards this secret with her life, the only ones who know are her gay friends, Mark and Gabe, and her publisher.
The story runs like a humorous romcom film which I could picture in my head. Molly and Daniel have damaged family backgrounds and specific relationship issues. Their relationship is littered with obstacles and quandries. The author does wonderful friends and family members. There is the recurrence of characters from previous books like Lucas and Eva and Urban Genie, the company run by the three friends. If you like dogs, you will definitely like this novel. A seamless delight from beginning to end, I would recommend this for when life is getting you down or just because you fancy a well written feel good contemporary fairy tale read. Many thanks to Harlequin for an ARC.
I always look forward to Sarah Morgan’s next book and this one, the fourth in her From Manhattan with Love series, didn’t disappoint.
It’s funny, romantic and kinda hot. There are some definite sparks in this contemporary romance and I’m loving the New York setting. Perfect for a lazy day spent reading.
It’s not the most original of stories, man pretends to be something he’s not to catch the eye of someone he fancies, but Morgan does it so well. It’s an addictive and fun read that I read from cover to cover in the space of a day. Molly is a very likeable character and, while she has a troubled past she was trying to get away from, it wasn’t at all what I thought it would be and definitely brought a unique twist. I loved how she was both vulnerable and also quite fiery. She doesn’t take any nonsense and is very able for the supremely charming and persuasive Daniel.
Daniel, well he’s determined to get what he wants and will go to any lengths to get it (even if it means borrowing a dog and pretending to be a dog person) but you can’t help but like him. He also hasn’t had the best past and despite the charm and the polish there’s a very kind and caring man underneath it all.
The relationship between the two is brilliant. Morgan knows how to create some real chemistry between her characters and there were some definite sparks. There’s a lot of banter and teasing (and one hilarious moment of revenge) but there are a lot of quite sweet moments too. They were definitely a couple I was rooting for.
The supporting characters were well developed and I loved how heavily the dogs Valentine and Brutus featured although I do now want a dog. This book did introduce a few new characters who weren’t in the original trilogy and for me they were welcome additions.
Overall a great story that I’d recommend to any one looking for a fun and romantic read with a few surprises along the way. I should also add that while it is the fourth in the series it could quite easily be read as a standalone as there isn’t too much of an overlap with previous books.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with an ARC. All views are my own.
A story full of sparkling wit and romance. Daniel only does superficial relationships and Molly doesn't do them at all. I loved Molly and Daniel, both of them being afraid of commitment but learning about each other on a deeper level just because Molly refused to go on a date. Valentine and Brutus are delightful; If you are a dog lover you will adore this book and if not you will be converted!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
Sarah Morgan has outshined herself once again with a 5 star read in this outstanding series , with the way she writes I am in the story I'm living in there and I'm seeing and feeling everything the characters do ....totally amazing , I couldn't put my kindle down I had to finish in one sitting.
I have nothing other to say but New York actually is probably my most favourite romance novel so far in 2017 .
