A second chance…

The Civil War is over and now the country must try and stitch itself back together.

The frontiers of the West are being pushed back rapidly as the whole nation starts to move towards the promised land of California, a country of warm skies and gold for the taking.

Former Confederate soldier Tracey Dillman arrives in New Orleans, hoping to join one of the wagon trains headed west, filled with people looking for a fresh start in the state of California.

But the journey across the frontier is full of dangers; thousands of miles of desert, mountains, rivers in flood, as well as parties of outlaws looking to take advantage of travellers.

When the convoy he is travelling in is attacked by Laredo and Carrico’s gang, Dillman finds that he’s the only survivor.

Determined not to let others suffer the same fate, Dillman returns to New Orleans with the intent to join another train.

But with the town blaming him for the ambush and outlaw spies at every turn, it will be no easy feat.

John Glasby was born in 1928, and graduated from University with an honours degree in Chemistry. He started his career as a research chemist for I.C.I, in 1952, and worked for them until his retirement. During the early 1960s, Glasby wrote dozens of paperback westerns, all of which were reprinted in hardcover and paperback four decades later. Following his retirement from I.C.I., Glasby produced a steady stream of new westerns, science fiction and crime novels, right up to his death in 2010. His westerns include Storm Over Mendaro, Flashpoint, Brand of the Hunted, El Dorado Trail and Triple Peaks.
