Always a loner, Sister Agnes Carmichael decides it’s time to turn over a new leaf and make some friends.

Striking up an unusual friendship with the extrovert, Sister O’Hara, the two are soon firm allies – both at work in the casualty department and a as visitors in each other’s homes. 

It’s a pleasant change for Sister Carmichael: finally, someone cares.

But during one of their get-togethers, Sister O’Hara shares an eerie story. 

She recalls the time when one of her patients died – and how she happened to see him again following his death. 

Perturbed by this experience, Sister O’Hara had decided to seek out a medium, Mrs Wilkins, hoping to hear something from this patient.

Given their blooming friendship, Sister O’Hara asks Sister Carmichael to join her when she goes to see Mrs Wilkins. 

Feeling a special warmth towards Sister O’Hara, Sister Carmichael agrees to join her.

Slightly sceptical, the Sisters approach Mrs Wilkins’ methods with apprehension and suspicion, but after their first séance, Sister Carmichael is shaken. 

How does she actually bring out things that affect others at the seance? How is it she knows things that nobody else knows? 

There was no way Mrs Wilkins could have faked that communication… Sister Carmichael has to go back.

But when Mary Powell, a single mother and one of Carmichael’s nurses, gets into trouble, the Sister finds herself becoming embroiled in a mystery beyond her control.

Mrs Wilkins has something to hide, but she is unable to escape Sister Carmichael’s eagle-eyed perceptiveness. 

Yet, despite Mary Powell coming under serious threat, the police are unreliable – and it looks like once again, it’s time for Sister Carmichael to take matters into her own hands.
