Trevor has to figure out who the arsonist is and who the murderer is. A bit unusual to have 2 different tasks. There are many things going on with these characters who are also Trevor's friends. Even with all the different things happening, the story flows well. A child being murdered is vulgar and never sits well, however this is fiction and I wasn't able to figure out who Sheriff Trevor was looking for in the first 50% of the book. Worth the read for mystery/suspense readers.

A new author for me, really enjoyed this novel. Well written.

If you like a thriller with a fine element of slasher horror, here is a good yarn that keeps up the tension alongside a fine assortment of villains.
Trevor Howard is the sheriff of a small town that recently has unaccountably experienced more than its fair share of fires. And now a young boy has been found sadistically murdered. Perhaps the two things are linked. But where is the source of this evil operating from?
Meanwhile Holly, a keen young cop, is working underground to track down who is supplying a less-than healthy amount of crack cocaine to the local populace. But perhaps, still a rookie, she underestimates how mean the local drug barons might prove to be.
The sheriff is to learn that even the most solid of his old friends may be consumed by weaknesses he had never guessed at. So he calls on his old friend dried-out alcoholic Rand in an attempt to get to the bottom of the mysteries before there are more murders and casualties of arson.

Trevor is also challenged indeed to rescue his old friend from himself, either in bitter cold or through the flames.

The title seems to be about both true and false mystical vision, whether or not through drugs or various forms of mental aberration. The fruits of both are how we might know them.

It does have to be said that this novel still needs a competent proof reader – the typos here are truly wince worthy. Nothing wrong, however, with the way this novel the a structured plot wise, nor with the characters that are portrayed here in all their foibles.

Although I would have purchased this book because of the description, it was a depressing read. The main character was easy to relate to and obivously wanted to do his best for all of his friends. Unfortunately, the friends were not particularly likeable or easy to relate too. Lots of violence and betrayal.

I had a hard time getting interested in this book. It had several main characters and they weren't always easy to keep track of. I cared about most of the characters but not all. The storyline was interesting but didn't come together until the very end. There were elements that were a mystery and some horror elements.

Mystic – Robert R. Perkinson

I was fortunate to receive this novel as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review.
Trevor Howard is the Teton County, Wyoming sheriff, and he is investigating the recent death of 5-year-old Ronnie, along with four major arson events in and around the town of Jackson. He knows something is not right in his county, but there are few leads to go on, and no forensic evidence. Abe Anderson is the area’s pediatrician. Married to Nancy, and the father of some children, Abe has a secret fascination with a local actress and an unhealthy habit. Father’s Paul and Warren are the priests that preside over the local Catholic church, one of whom falls under scrutiny when an anonymous letter arrives, accusing one of them of misconduct with a child. And Holly Webb is an undercover police officer, brought in by Trevor to quietly investigate and infiltrate the county’s drug runners, until she finds herself in over her head.

Several different story lines are in effect and play into one another as Trevor investigates and attempts to identify the evil that has invaded Teton County. This book is loaded with fast paced action, colorful characters, and the beautifully descriptive scenery of the Teton Mountains. As Trevor continues searching for answers, a psychopathic personality disintegrates, a drug habit spirals out of control, and a young cop swears vengeance. But first all must survive the search for Mystics.

This book wasn’t quite what I expected, but it was a great read! However, there were a LOT of grammatical errors and misspellings – while they don’t at all detract from the story, I found myself quite surprised at the volume of errors.

All in all, a great, suspenseful read!

This book was very detailed and yet had me confused at points. I think there was just too many stories going on within the book that it didn’t end very focused. However if you disregard some of the outside stories it seemed to be a pretty gook story overall.

This book drew me in and held me delightfully-captive from beginning to end. The palpable tension held me in thrall. The plot kept me guessing. The characters were realistic, likable and identifiable. And, every settings was described in such a way as to make me feel like I was an actual bystander in that scene. Once I started reading this story, I knew this was a book I wasn’t going to be able to put down!
