Description
Welcome to the cursed town of Sparrow…
Two centuries ago, in the small, isolated town, three sisters were sentenced to death for witchery. Stones were tied to their ankles and they were drowned in the deep waters surrounding the town. Now, for a brief time each summer, the sisters return from the depths, stealing the bodies of three weak-hearted girls so that they may seek their revenge, luring boys into the harbor and pulling them down to their watery deaths.
Like many locals, seventeen-year-old Penny Talbot has accepted the fate of the town. But this year, on the eve of the sisters’ return, a boy named Bo Carter arrives; unaware of the danger he has just stumbled into or the fact that his arrival will change everything...
Mistrust and lies spread quickly through the salty, rain-soaked streets. The townspeople turn against one another. Penny and Bo suspect each other of hiding secrets. And death comes swiftly to those who cannot resist the call of the sisters.
But only Penny sees what others cannot. And she will be forced to choose: save Bo, or save herself.

I was drawn to this title by the synopsis, and it didn't disappoint! If I hadn't had to sleep, I would have read it in one sitting. I loved the atmosphere and was completely drawn in to the town of Sparrow, and the lives of its inhabitants. I particularly liked the juxtaposition of the current day story with that of the Swan sisters. A perfect read for a cold, winter's night!
This book was NOT what I expected....but in the best possible way.
The book intrigued me from the start, witches, a centuries-old curse and a little town called Sparrow - sounds perfect right?
This book dragged me under really quickly. The story was quick paced and addictive. It sort of got under my skin in that I couldn't stop thinking about it even when I wasn't reading it. If I'd had the time I'd probably have devoured this in one sitting.
What I did not expect was the mind-blowing revelation towards the end of the book. It was exceptionally clever to the point where I thought I'd spotted something earlier on in the book but the author then convinced me that I was wrong until bam at the end I was just shocked.
At his point, I wanted to re-read the entire thing to see what I'd missed!
Then all the unanswered questions were revealed and I think my poor brain may have melted by this point.
I really, really enjoyed this book it had the perfect mixture of creepy, mystery and romance to make it really good and I loved the flitting narrative.
I'm giving this 4.5 stars because the characters and the plot twists were brilliant...I'm just a little torn about the ending. I can understand the choice, I'm just torn!
Overall, this is highly recommended to lovers of fantasy and mystery!
