Description
What is the difference between an addiction and a habit? Anyone with strong particular affinities might well wonder if these urges are a source of danger. Addicts are willing to do anything to scratch their psychic itch. Those around them gape in horror at the ease with which addicts compromise their sanity, good name and fortune.
Mishaps and Failures And Mind Boggling CompulsionsIn Love and Kisses from My Padded Cell, Dr. Ellie Katz recounts the struggles of ten men and women who fell victim to the irresistible draw of addiction. There is no lack of tragedy, pathos or remorse, but there is also a hint of comedy as we explore the lives of people who have run counter to their true essences and behaved like genuine jackasses.
The hero in each of these tales is not the rehab counsellor nor the Twelve-Step Program
The addict is the hero and the addiction is the villain, or maybe they are both the villain. But more than anything else, Love and Kisses from My Padded Cell is about the hope that by sharing these stories other sufferers will be inspired to seek "and perhaps even find” a better way.
Advance Praise
Love and Kisses from My Padded Cell by Ellie Katz is a self-motivation and spirituality book. I must say that I am very intrigued by the book with just reading the synopsis. I am not wrong; the book is perfect in every sense.
The author starts the book with a prologue of her background as a psychologist specializing in addictions and compulsions, the nature of addiction and how everyone could fall into this entrapment.
I like how the book has the variety of stories, it's not the same 10 character that has the same struggle. There is a guy with a dark past, there is someone who is very successful and there is a woman who has her own struggle while pregnant. I think its ironic how we tend to think about alcohol and drugs when it comes to the word of addictions. We actually forget a lot more thing; gambling, caffeine, bulimia and even OCD, they all could be an addiction.
Reading this book totally opened my eyes about a lot of things. There are a lot of people out there that is very unfortunate, they dont even have the chance to grow in a proper home whilst some just love the success and doesnt want to take the plunge. However, these are the stories of how each and every one of them tries to make their life better.
I believe that this book could change a lot of views; not everyone is as lucky as you to have a good family or a good surrounding, not everyone could hold their life together and not everyone will continue falling and succumb to addiction. There are a lot more stories out there that we have no idea about, a lot more struggles to get through but we as the society, tend to think the worst of them.
As for me, the most touching story in this book is about Faith. She is very troubled since the first introduction of her character. What broke my heart is when she said to Ellie that she thinks that she might never be normal again.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested to know more about addictions and the hard truth of their tale - 5 Stars Amazon

I really enjoyed this book which was told from people who experienced some from of habit/addiction. Very eye-opening to what can drive a person to pick up a bad habit and what it can do to one's self-esteem. Society is quick to judge why people may do certain things, this book tells you why the subjects did it. Everyone should read this book and maybe compassion can come back into society as we know it. Outstanding read. Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC of this book in return for my honest review.
Addiction has become a very politicized concept now with addicts frequently seen as near demons. These 10 cases bring some needed nuance into the topic area. There are many kinds of addiction and there are many individual stories of addicts. We need to begin to bring both logic, common sense and compassion into the discussion. Until we do that we won't see any progress into the problem. This book does a wonderful job of beginning the task at hand.. I thoroughly applaud the author and publisher for bringing this forward in a more enlightened way than usual.
Thank you Net Galley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Love and Kisses from My Padded Cell” by Ellie Katz is a collection of ten stories of addiction by both men and women and their struggles to overcome this debilitating disease. What is different about these stories is the seeming absence of the rehab counselor. They do come into play towards the end of each of the stories, but only as the addict realizes that they are needed. The addict is the one who reaches out and makes the decision to speak to the counselor or go to treatment, which makes them very heroic in that respect and villainous because of their previous actions. The addicts stories are heartbreaking, true to life and at times very funny, but nothing that you would ever want live through yourself. The stories are very hopeful because all of these addicts are in recovery. They have all gone through series of clean time and fallen off the wagon, but this particular treatment seems to have stuck, which seems to be the more self-directed method. This gives hope to people struggling in the same position with the same addiction problem even though it stems from different issues. This was a good book for both addicts and caregivers alike.
