A big thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This books has a lot of information, and may be overwhelming. I thought it was well researched.
One to watch out for upon release date! Absolutely stunning, this fairly short book combines simple yet compelling illustrations and graphics to explain every aspect of this beautiful earth we live in. Covering all aspects of the Earth Science curriculum, albeit basically, this is something I would use to supplement my homeschool teaching. Perfect for any child who loves or has an interest in Geography, Geology or Science in general.
With full pages covering everything from how the earth has changed, to the weather, natural disasters, the Water cycle and ecosystems to pollution and an appeal to saving this precious planet we have been gifted.
I've read many science books aimed at children, and this is by far one of my favourite.
Thanks to Netgalley for the eARC. This is my honest review.
Really good primer to geology, from understanding the layout of the world to the water cycle, how volcanoes work, and how pollution is bad. The artwork is lovely, but I wish the script wasn't so bitty - it can be really hard to know what order to read anything in, especially about the tectonic plates. That's the only negative I can imagine anyone having, however, so a strong four and a half stars.
Growing up as a geography nerd, I can't express how much I ADORE this picture book. Concepts and ideas are neatly organized to illustrate the essence of each topic which could be quite confusing for the young minds. I wish this book was available to me the time I grew up; I remember I struggled with few concepts when I was around 11 and 12 when I first took the introduction geography/geology class. Not that the concepts were difficult but I suffered from overloading information.
The illustrations are so well done, too! This is definitely a MUST HAVE for young kids! Never too early to introduce the intriguing concept of geology to young children. And as for adults, the book would be a quick read to refresh some forgotten information. Thanks Wide Eyed Editions for your continuous effort to offer high quality reading materials for children. My son always enjoy my sharing when reading all the titles I have bought him so far by Wide Eyed Editions. Quality time is wells spent and I can't wait to have the physical copy in hand so we could read it together. Highly recommend!
This short book is full of information about our planet and incorporates maps, diagrams and other illustrations and they are what makes the book most appealing for young readers.
Wow, reading Jo Nelson's Destination: Planet Earth, with its wealth of information and informative illustrations by Tom Clohosy Cole, feels like experiencing a whole semester of elementary school science classes. This large, colorful volume from Wide Eyed Editions packs a ton of information into its pages.
Nelson covers a range of topics, from basic geography and navigation, to atmosphere and weather, to water cycle and landforms. Each page has several text boxes with a short paragraph explaining the illustrations or developing a point. Nelson finds the right balance of providing basic information without belaboring a point or over teaching. The text and illustrations are nicely spaced so that the pages don't feel too cluttered.
While nothing can replace a good science class, I could see Destination: Planet Earth as a great resource for home or classroom to reinforce the lessons of a basic earth science class.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the complimentary electronic review copy!
Destination: Planet Earth is a very thorough, colorful journey over our home planet -- landforms, earth science, geography. Each double-page spread includes a large illustration and small text blocks around it that cover details about each place or topic, such as mountains, the coastline, plate tectonics, volcanoes, biomes, etc.
At the end there's a couple sections about pollution and some of the things we can do to help reduce waste. The book as a whole really makes you feel like an explorer!
(Thanks to NetGalley for the review copy.)
Destination: Planet Earth is a colourful book aimed at primary school level. It gives great information on a variety of subjects including mountains, rivers, earthquakes and weather. There are 19 subjects in total.
Each subject explains in little boxes a fact about that subject and is accompanied by drawn colourful pictures, in a way that makes it easy for a child to understand.
It would be a great book for use at school or with project work sent home.
I received this book from netgalley in return for a honest review.
'Destination: Planet Earth' by Jo Nelson with illustrations by Tom Clohosy Cole first caught my eye with it's striking cover. The facts and illustrations inside kept my attention in this science book for younger readers.
The book features 2 page spreads in the form of a group of kids going on a vacation. The book is filled with all kinds of facts about our planet. There are pages on the oceans and continents, navigation, the poles, the equator, climate, biomes and other topics.
I loved the illustrations in this book. They kept me interested in the parade of facts going by. But the facts are good too, and broken up with charts and illustrations.
I received a review copy of this ebook from Quarto Publishing Group - Wide Eyed Editions, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.
A highly visual information text, with each double-spread taking the reader to a different scene from our planet. Visit deserts, volcanoes, mountains and tectonic plate boundaries to discover a wealth of fascinating facts about the physical geography the Earth. We have recommended this text as a book for primary schools.
Destination Planet Earth is a well thought through with detailed descriptions about our lovely home, Earth. Each caption is easy to understand and informative. There are pages about how you can help reduce pollution and waste which the children in my class are currently obsessed with! The links between Science and Geography are good allowing children to see that they are not stand alone subjects. The illustrations throughout the book support a child's understanding whilst also keeping them interested.
Thanks to Quarto Publishing Group - Wide Eyed Editions, and NetGalley for the ARC.

Destination: Planet Earth is well balanced between fun and informative pictures and detailed text. It is a solid introduction for children to the different sciences that describe and explain our planet, like geography, to the basics of ecology, the whys of tides and magnetic field, how we need to protect the environment in which we live, and so much more. No one topic gets extensive coverage, but the basics of each topic covered is well explained and illustrated with out crossing the line of overwhelming the younger readers. . If you are looking for a quick and concise explanation on just about everything Earth related, this is the book for you, and your library or classroom. This book just might encourage further research in the field touched upon, or inspire a future scientist's interest.
