You had me at Badass Babe.

I expected this to be part journal, part self help book. And while that's mostly what it is, it also includes loads of information about strong women in history. Women in sports, women in science. Activists, inventors, just badass women in general.

And sprinkled in is plenty to keep your mind active, your soul calmed, and your spirit cleansed. From self care to self expression, there's loads to see and do here. This would make an excellent 2018 self care journal.

My takeaway from this preview has been singular and simple: I need to buy this book in print. A second takeaway has just manifested: I need to buy multiple copies and give them to my friends. A lot of these books exist in the market today and it's fantastic. They are filling needs - somewhat desperate needs. What I liked about this book in particular is the focus on diverse individuals - women, female-identifying, and gender nonconforming. Really fantastic selection of highlighted women include women of color - both racially and ethnically - wide ranging. Also, I love the idea of asking women to describe and define their own versions of femininity, challenging social norms and what they/we have grown up defining ourselves against. Really special. Highly recommended.

Art therapy, taken to another level. This is an amazing book for feminist inspiration combined with art. It encourages people to draw, be creative and express themselves without fear of failure. It works through a series of therapy chapters, with stories of woman across humanity who are true leaders in their field, and using them as inspiration to seek the power within yourself.

I found the biographies of inspirational women, well, truly inspirational. The exercises were fun, challenging and brought out my creative side, and made me recognise that although I love drawing and art, I don't do it because I fear failure - that my creations won't be good enough.

This is a book that delivers on everything it promises to be.

I requested this book via NetGalley, because the name and content seemed unique in the description. I was lucky to have the request approved and It turned out that I was right about it on both counts. This book uses the usually semi-derogatory term babes and turns it around to spear a whole different thought trend.

The book contains snippets of information on various women (majority concentrated in the North American sphere, considering the limits of having it fit into a single book, with a few achievements from elsewhere) who have or are excelling in their chosen fields. Then each of it is further used to try and inspire an artistic reaction. The 'workbook' section has interesting ideas and suggestions that can be used to fuel drawing/painting or writing. Overall a good book to have on the shelf.

I want to thank NetGalley for updating this one, now I actually get to review it!!!

Every, and I mean, every woman needs this workbook. It is full of wonderful things to think about, and sometimes they aren't happy things. All of us women have stories to share, art to create, and people to love.

I am still working my way through this. I love all the little spinets of badass babes, women who are writers, artists, activists. Women who will inspire you to make your own creations. And get the physical book if you can, it really is a workbook!

I enjoy fun guided journals before bed every night and this one is inspiring and empowering. Love the page with Kathleen Hanna.

I found this to be very thought provoking, informative, and empowering. The creative exercises are a nice bonus but in no way required to benefit from this book. It was a perfect read for Women's History month!

**Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC! All opinions are my own.**

BADASS BABE WORKBOOK is a collection of prompts to inspire creativity in those wanting to further explore their "badass self". Throughout the prompts are collections of stories and quotes of trailblazing women who've come and gone before for added inspiration. Definitely a creative collection.

Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review Badass Babe Workbook.

I received an ebook edition, so I'm unable to say anything about the paper or what it would be like to work on.

I really liked the look of the book. Lots of adorable illustrations of the Badass Babes featured in the book. The mini biographies are just long enough to remind you why these women are "Badass Babes" and enouvh to make me want to learn more about the few I don't know as much about.

I would have marked it 5 stars, but I found the workbook bit underwhelming. More of an afterthought. I wasn't interested in that part enough to do them in a sketchbook. Some might enjoy it, but I have seen much better creative workbook stuff.

All in all, I would recommend this to all the ladies of course, but I think it would make an especially good gift for tweens and teens.

The Badass Babe Workbook includes creative exercises, drawing activities, empowering stories, and fuel for your personal revolution that have been inspired by over 100 trailblazing women. The great thing about these workbooks is that you can go in any order. From front to back or jump around to each activity that you most feel like doing that day. In between activities there are quotes and information on other badass babes, so you always know that you are in good company!

I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review, I was not otherwise compensated.

A great book. With the centenary of the suffragette movement this felt very topical. I loved learning about the females who have made an impact in history. Being an ebook meant that you could not do the activities I enjoyed reading it regardless.

I had a different impression of this book when I picked it up from when I finished it. I was expecting more of a book about defining yourself as a badass, but the book is more focused on the empowering women around the reader and what the reader can learn from them. It's not a bad tactic, it takes a more "Rejected Princesses" focus than I was expecting, but I think it's a good book for younger women who are maybe looking for some role model.s.

The diversity is impressive in that more books don't have such a diverse cast of role models. It feels better.

My only complaint is that the term "babes" when used in the book, feels... off? It doesn't feel feminist or empowering and when juxtaposed with the source materials - kind of cheapens the feel of the overall concept.

I love the workbook aspect of Badass Babe Workbook: Creative Exercises, Drawing Activities, Empowering Stories and Fuel for Your Personal Revolution, Inspired by Over 100 Trailblazing Women. Each topic is preceded by a short biography of a woman or women who made a difference to the world in their field. The book leads girls/women to recognize who they are and to create/visualize their own story. This motivates us to be better, stronger, gentler, more creative, more active women, more in touch with our true selves and our own story; women who know that taking care of ourselves is the first step in caring for others and being able to offer all that we are.

This book lets us (girls/women) know that we can be whatever we want to be and empowers us to follow and fulfill our dreams while at the same time stressing that we are okay and perfect just the way we are.

An important book for our girls AND ourselves!!

Thanks to NetGalley, Julie Van Grol and Quarry Books (Quarto Publishing) for offering me the chance to read this excellent book in exchange for an honest opinion.

I really liked this. I like journals and workbooks so that's already great, I enjoyed reading about different badass women, I'm really interested in reading about some of them further, I would advice this book/journal to any girl/woman to inspire themselves. Also a great gift for teenagers.

Oh my gosh, I freaking love this book! I learned so much about different women throughout history who were totally badass. I love the writing prompts to inspire you to think. The sketching instruction and prompts were really different for me; I've never thought of myself as any kind of artist, but it was really fun trying out the tips in the book. I'm definitely going to buy multiple copies of this one to gift to the important women in my life. Inspirational AND educational AND entertaining. The complete package.

This book was very fun and inspiration! Using powerful stories and creative exercises to promote things like self-care and self esteem. The achievements of others is a very inspiring way to help people like me. I loved it.

I got a copy of this from NetGalley for review purposes, and after finishing it, immediately ordered a print copy at Amazon. That should probably tell you what I think of it.

This book is interactive, calling upon the stories of more than a hundred women throughout history who kicked ass in their respective fields, and offering prompts and space for the reader to explore her own badassery in the process. It's this great mix of education, art, and writing, too, with sections on portrait drawing and figure drawing, as well as how to collect and embody your own stories.

I kind of want to give a copy to every girl (and woman) that I know.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This workbook has prompts, art activities, and writing exercises to empower the reader. For me, it was the writing exercises that really inspired me.

With the glut of self help/rebel girl books around at the moment, I wasn’t sure about this book going in, but I’m happy to say that it proved me wrong. A fun book, part fact and part activity, that forces readers to think about themselves and ways to achieve what they want and make change, whilst being inspired by women who have done just that.

A fun workbook. If it sounds like something you've been interested in, you'll probably enjoy this. Makes a fun gift.

A fun book which both encourages creativity via drawing, and inspires via stories of 'trailblazing women'. Would have loved this when I was a teenager! Great to see inspiring tales of women, aimed at women.
Thanks to the publisher for a review copy.

Even if you don’t want to get in touch with your inner badass babe you should read this book to learn about some of the badasses featured in its pages.

Artist Julie Van Grol's Badass Babe Workbook peeks the reader's strong woman and inner Badass Babe in the most creative way: art! The exercises coupled with the added sections of inspiration from trailblazing women is a great companion "workbook" to "I Know a Woman" by Kate Hodges. Her goal of creating a gigantic web of womanhood which celebrates the relationships between the world’s most inspirational and influential women is enhanced as the reader of Grol's guide work through the art exercises to celebrate her own.
