The book offers whole range of beautiful desserts, perfect for any birthday party straight out of a fairy tale! The only thing the inside of the book can be compared to is the explosion of colours. The book includes recipes for birthday cakes, cookies, smoothies and lots more! Perfect for all the princesses out there!
5 stars to Unicorn Food! 🦄 🌈 🦄
Unicorn Food is a big trend of late with rainbow-colored drinks to radiant smoothie bowls, cakes, and bite-sized desserts. Plus, it’s fun for adults and super engaging for kids.
The idea is that the foods should be healthful and over-the-top visually appealing. Unicorn Food offers many vibrant foods using natural food dyes. There are plenty of sweets included using sugar, so not all recipes are necessarily beneficial; but everyone needs desserts once in a while, and this is clearly a book meant for entertaining!
I think if you were planning a party for a child with a unicorn theme, you would be thrilled to come across all the ideas in this book. Likewise, I could potentially see an adult party or shower incorporating some unicorn foods. Huge kudos to the photographer for stunning photos of every recipe, perfectly suited to this type of cookbook.
Overall, Unicorn Food achieves what it is designed to do- to provide a variety of unique, vivid, delicious recipes, perfectly suited for the enjoyment of kids and adults alike!
Thank you to Sandra Mahut, Quarto/Quarry Publishing, and Netgalley for the copy.
This is a lovely book for anyone that loves Unicorns and Rainbows. It has lots of recipes from cakes, toasties, drinks and smoothies in all the colours of the rainbow! It shows you how to use natural ingredients to colour your creations. It's a really lovely book!
This is really good, fun recipe book. It has some amazing recipes to make rainbow coloured and unicorn theme food items. There is a variety of foods from salads to savoury sandwiches to wonderously colourful desserts. This is a must buy for all unicorn and rainbows fan who wanna embrace these and incorporate it into your cooking.
With all the unicorn craze this book is sure to satisfy many readers. We have several instagram worthy recipes. Some popular recipes such as Croque- Unicorn (rainbow grilled cheese sandwich) and Mermaid Toast. Each recipe has a full color image to go along with it including great detailed instructions and a separate ingredients list. Most the recipes look relatively healthy as well!
Rather a colourful book, the cakes and party food would delight any child - The savoury samples did not inspire me, especially rainbow melted cheese sandwich, but maybe the kids would love it. The food colouring can be home made from natural ingredients (instructions given) but store bought can also we used. Nice ideas, such as the unicorn cake and the colourful swiss roll, the young girls would particularly love them. The recipes are easy to make and easy to follow, a fun book.
🦄 Happy Unicorn Day! 🦄
Despite its promising title, Unicorn Food is not a book of recipes to help you feed your unicorn a nutritionally balanced diet, nor does it contain recipes that include unicorns as an ingredient. It’s okay! You don’t need to retrieve your pitchfork! There’s not a single unicorn listed in the ingredients of this book! 😜
Instead you will get to marvel at some of the most beautiful food you’ve ever seen. Using natural food colourings like juices, spices or natural powdered food colourings that you can purchase from speciality cake decorating stores or our good friend, the Internet, you won’t find preservatives in any of the sweet or savoury delights in this book.
You’ll find such yummies as unicorn poop (pretty little rainbow meringues), unicorn maki rolls, unicorn noodle bowls with the most extraordinary purple and blue noodles, crogue-unicorn (toasted cheese sandwiches with 4 colours in the cheese), and blueberry galaxy cupcakes. I already thought donuts were out of this world but there’s even a recipe for cosmic donuts, which include edible silver glitter and bright blue icing!
I’m fairly certain that I’ll be indulging in swirly pastel unicorn cheesecake in the near future. I can also guarantee that I will never attempt the unicorn cake with a starring role on the cover of this book. I can only imagine the epic fail that would be the result of me attempting to replicate this one. However if someone would like to volunteer to make one for me I won’t object.
The photography in this book is sufficiently droolworthy and if you’re my kind of chef it will show you the hilarious difference between what the food was supposed to look like and what your talent for disaster has actually whipped up. I expect the recipes in this book will wind up featuring at many parties in the near future.
Thank you very much to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Quarry for the opportunity to be one of the first to drool over this book.
This is a lovely little cookbook filled with lots of really colourful recipes. What I really enjoyed was that not all the recipes are sweet. The rainbow cheese toastie is particularly interesting and definitely one that must be tried!
The unicorn ice cream has been a real hit in our household easy to make and really delicious!
Enjoyed this eBook so much that I ordered a physical copy to add to my collection
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
The introduction to Unicorn Food describes the colorful world which they are attempting to create with the recipes from this cookbook. A balanced, colorful rainbow of food which will delight the eye while providing healthy eating, is the aim.
All of the recipes in the book recommend natural food coloring. Specialty cake shops carry natural food colorings. To make your own, use the provided list of the various foods which can create natural colors.
The recipes in this book are divided into two categories, Savory and Sweet. Each recipe includes the Prep time and Servings along with the ingredients and instructions.
With only 32 recipes in the book, it is short but sweet. It does cover a variety of different types of recipes giving an excellent selection.
Whimsical But Practical Recipes
The recipes throughout are whimsical but practical, there seems to be a rainbow-infused recipe for every occasion. I like the idea of using the natural food colorings or actual food to create the color rather than artificial dyes.
While not a children’s recipe book, I believe many of these recipes would be a huge hit at a unicorn themed kids party. That being said, Husband is insisting we make the Croque-Unicorn for Sunday brunch.
All of the ingredients seem to be very straightforward and easily sourced. I think this book has an excellent collection of imaginative recipes that everyone will enjoy.
See the full review and the recipe for Croque-Unicorn at The RecipesNow! Reviews And Recipes Magazine. This review is written in response to a complimentary copy of the book provided by the publisher in hopes of an honest review.
Cute, sweet, and relatively short! This book's only major fault is that is could be longer. Full of both a combo of basic lunch recipes and mostly treats, this book focuses on color and fun! If you're looking to throw a unicorn themed bash, this would be a great place to start.
A note to all those considering purchase, this book uses UK measurements, you will need a scale.
Very creative unicorn inspired recipes. I would have loved to have had this book before hosting two unicorn parties.
The food and the pictures in this cookbook are amazing! My young children were extremely excited to be my guinea pigs for the testing of these recipes. If I had any issues with the recipes it would be how many of them call for the use of dyes. Even using natural dyes I felt was a little overused, I would have liked to see more recipes using food to create the colouring.
Always be you...unless you can be a unicorn...be a unicorn 🦄🌈
Super cute, fun and definitely a lot of things I want to try!!! Thank you for my copy!
#Everything Unicorns
Cute ideas! Print was too jumbled to read clearly in the reader, but cool ideas for unicorn goodies!
Charming, magical deliciousness for the whole family. My only critique is I wish the recipes included conversions for the ingredients.
The book offers whole range of beautiful desserts, perfect for any birthday party straight out of a fairy tale! The only thing the inside of the book can be compared to is the explosion of colors. The book includes recipes for birthday cakes, cookies, smoothies and lots more! Perfect for all the princesses out there!
This has to be THE most magical cookbook I’ve ever seen! The colors alone are creatively unicorn ALL THE WAY!
Recipes include Savoury and Sweet!
This cookbook also includes how to make super pretty colors that ANY unicorn would love!!!
To me, this is a really sweet and magical reading book for any little child who loves the magic of unicorns and the magic of life and all of it’s possibilities…a magical experience through a picture book of yummy looking dreams!
I wish there was a boxed meal service that offered Unicorn Food….ahhhh…yet another possibility that COULD someday happen!
Thank you to Ms. Sandra Mahut, Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry, and Netgalley for a free for honest review advanced reader copy of “Unicorn Food: Natural Recipes for Edible Rainbows.”
While I am not the greatest of unicorn aficionado’s in my social circles, I could not pass up this delightful looking book from the second I saw that adorable unicorn cake on the front cover. Everything within, perfectly following suit to that first post setter, was just as delightful. Every page is covered in recipes about how to add magic and color to all the dishes, drinks, dessert, and savory eats, most of which you are already eating. Except now with a touch more magic.
Add a few drops of color here and there, and almost everything becomes that much more spectacular. There are noodles in crayon colors, grilled cheese sandwiches that when pulled apart become rainbows, color changing drinks, cakes and sweets to delight, and so much more.
The book is short, sweet, incredibly easy to read (and the recipes within are incredibly easy in enact, as well). I can see myself picking up copies of this for a few friends and for my very young nieces in the future, too.
It is pretty obvious that the author is a food stylist and an excellent one at that.
She presents many innovative food presentation ideas and although they seem aimed at children they can be modified to entertain many an adult.
I was interested in this book as a way to help my daughter eat healthier. There are some neat ideas to that effect. For example, I hope that the unicorn sushi might help restart the love for sushi she had as a toddler. On the other hand this book is mostly sweets and I don't need to help her appreciate those! That being said, I could see one of the sweets being a centerpiece at her next birthday party.
4☆ Perfect Easy to bake Recipies-netgalley-ultimate Prepared to be dazzled!!
Unicorn food is the perfect recipe book to create the newest craze in food.
It's colourful, quirky, fun and delicious. Especially if you adore unicorns and love experimenting with baking.
Let your creative side go wild!
To be honest I think this recipe book would be the perfect accompaniment for a girls/ teens/ adults birthday party.
The recipes are fun, each recipie has a photograph so you can see what your aiming for.
Some of the recipes are certainly quirky and I'm not convinced I would want to eat them purely because of the colours... for example Croque- Unicorn .... which is basically cheese on toast... But the cheese is dyed using food colouring. One of my fave recipies but just the thought of multi-coloured cheese kind of puts me off.
But that is just one of many that would certainly appeal to others.
The ingredients are measured in grams. Pretty straight forward ingredients. But one must have ingredient is food colouring. They recommend using natural food colouring.
Some of my favourite recipes within the book are
* Unicorn Cake with swiss meringue buttercream - which is my next baking project I have everything ready to bake & decorate. I can't wait.
* Rainbow Tiramisu - with mascarpone cheese, raspberries, pink sponges, chantilly cream.
*Swiss Roll, rainbow style - with a cream cheese & mascarpone filling and strawberries with a blue sponge.
*Unicorn Cheesecake - with sweet biscuit base, Greek yogurt & cream cheese, lemon juice & gelatine, 3 different coloured swirls for the cream cheese topping.
*Cosmic Doughnuts - These are baked doughnuts not fried! , these are topped with a blue icing sugar glaze with a dash of lemon juice.
*Rainbow Cupcakes - strawberry fruit and vanilla extract sponge, with a cream cheese & mascarpone frosting split into 4 different colours to make rainbow swirls. Topped with candy floss
These are just a few of the many scrumptious and dazzling recipies included.
I am definitely going to be recommending Unicorn food to my friends and family.
I adore baking and can't wait to try out some of the recipies.
If you want to try your hand at unicorn baking. Then definitely pick up a copy of this book. Unicorns might be the latest craze but I definitely think you will get a lot of love and use from this book.
Also if you have children that you want to get them to try new food then adding a lil flare to it could definitely encourage trying new food.
Good Luck and Happy Baking!
The recipes in this book are super easy to follow and end up looking incredibly aesthetically pleasing! What I loved most about this book though was the chapter on obtaining natural food coloring using an assortment of fruit of veggies. This really adds an extra level of creativity when trying to make rainbow-colored food and really shows just how rainbow-y nature actually is (in terms of food). The only reason why I'm taking one star off is that I personally would have liked to see a wider variety recipes, especially savory recipes. There were a few savory recipes at the beginning, but over 75% of the recipes focused on cakes, and other sweet desserts. However, this was still a super fun recipe book to go through and it definitely adds a lot of life into one's cooking.
Filled with pictures of colourful food and easy to follow recipes. Im going to try out the rainbow pancakes,

Sandra makes magic in the kitchen. She shares her fantastic and colorful recipes made with naturals ingredients. My favorites are the pink hummus, the Unicorn maki rolls and the homemade natural dyes.
This is an awesome book! There are so many fun recipes for everything from cake, to ice cream to ice cubes! Kids and adults alike will enjoy making, and eating!, this wonderful creations!
A brilliantly colorful cookbook filled to the brim with magical recipes, including rainbow pancakes, a unicorn cake, galaxy cupcakes, and more. I would be lying if I said I didn't want to attempt to cook ( and eat ) every single one of these delicious recipes. They all look so mouthwatering! I have a few friends who have little girls, and I'm sure this book would come in handy when planning all sorts of magical birthday parties.
A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I truly appreciate it!
As the book itself says: "Why eat boring when you can enjoy a rainbow-coloured noodle bowl for dinner? "
This is a great book with recipes for natural food colours, using natural food colour and beautiful photos.
It was a delight to be cooking from such a fun recipe book! I often found myself feeling overwhelmed cooking - am I using ethical ingredients, is this FODMAP friendly, is this nourishing my body and mind properly - but this was just FUN and that was such a welcome relief. Great for parties!
This book allows me to make my children happy (with rainbow-colored food) and me happy (because I hate to see them eat artificial dyes). The recipes are imaginative and should please color-desiring kids and adults. I plan to use these natural coloring techniques in other recipes, as well!
Really beautiful. Well set-out and appealing to young and old; children through to retirees will love this unicorn food.
"No unicorns were harmed in the making of this food!" That was a relief to know I did not want to ruin a little girl's existence by recommending we use actual unicorns in our recipes! Actually, this is quite a delightful book with recipes in it, including pictures to show what it should look like. Warning: Rainbows everywhere! But really, who wants boring, bland foods? This book will help you with that dilemma. If you, your child, or teen like unicorns, this book is for you. I want to make several things from it myself. The recipes are easy to read and follow. Great book!!!!
