Description
A train struck a man lying across the tracks, but the train didn’t kill him. The victim, a homeless vet, was already dead, murdered by a blow to the head. Tony Morrell, a detective on the small-town police force at Auburn, California, must unearth a motive for this bizarre action by the murderer if he ever hopes to solve the case.
As his case progresses, Tony must overcome his arrogant, dogmatic Chief in order to validate his suspicion that a serial killer is torturing and butchering local homeless victims. Little does he realize his journey of pursuit will require him to venture into the one dark place he has never been willing to go. What he finds there transcends his worst nightmare.

I received this book for free from Netgalley/Publisher/author in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this thriller. It was bit dark at times but I love the mystery behind it. We are told about a guy that was hit by a train but the true death had already happened before that. After the medical examiner had examined the death, finds out that this was a homeless guy.
Tony Morrell, a newly appointed Detective in a small California town. has just been handed his first real case by his supervisor who doesn't seem to have much fondness or respect for him.
I think this is the second book, so I did not read book one. I did not know that going into this book. I am basing my rating just off of this book not the series.
