Description
An inspiring tale of love, hope, and opportunity for China’s abandoned children At the tender age of 22, David Gotts was shocked by the condition of the children at a Chinese welfare centre. International China Concern (ICC) was born that day as David held dying baby Rose in his arms. This moving story spans twenty-five years of caring for abandoned children with disabilities in China. ICC has moved from merely saving lives to helping babies, children, and young adults live, work, study, and play independently. Since the opening of Oasis House in 2007, Chinese attitudes towards disability have changed dramatically, and ICC has been at the forefront of this incredible reform. China’s Oasis will move and inspire you as you meet those who dedicated their lives to serving the hidden children of China, who will capture your heart from the very first pages.

Had I known beforehand what exactly the ICC was, I would not have chosen this book. I am not a Christian, and the book is definitely written for Christians. It explores a situation I am extremely sympathetic to, and I feel like they could be doing good work. But there was way too much religion in this book for me to be able to finish it. My thoughts after skimming to the end are that I think Christians will find this book moving and inspirational.
A beautifully written and very touching account of the children who were born with disabilities and left to be cared for by the state. With kindness and sensitivity the author portrays the harsh living conditions, social stigma and deep root family beliefs that led to the abandonment of these children and how they came to be cared for by Oasis house. The story of this extraordinary children's home is a triumph of perseverance and strength of love over indifference and neglect.
