This is a cute picture book with 10 facts about lions. Facts such as lions like to eat porcupines, but porcupines don't like to be eaten, as is usually the case with the prey and the preyed upon. Apparently porcupines are lion's worse enemy, other than man. So they love to eat their enemy. The way they do so is to flip the porcupines over.
Another fact is the females are the hunters, but you probably knew that one, if you watched The Lion King animation.
Each fact is presented in a double page spread, such as this example of the first fact.

Good introduction to kids to get them interested in the environment.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
As the title says, this book is all about why you should think lions are cool, though that also depends on your point of view. Saying that unlike other cats they enjoy hanging out together is one thing, but it takes a totally different meaning when you’re running for your life.
Each page features a beautiful drawing, filled with color and staring lions, as well as text and captions on other animals, as well as plants.
My favorite fact was that porcupines got the lions’ number!
Pangolins sure have gotten famous recently.
Nice to look at, some fun facts. Sure to be a hit with kids.
What a nice book for a child who is interested in animals. 10 Reasons to Love a Lion is a beautifully illustrated nonfiction book that is helpful for all who want to learn about the life cycle and habitat of lions. This is a book that teachers would love to include in their classroom library. Kids will love the illustrations and text, and parents will be happy to read this with their child. After all, who doesn't love a lion? I enjoyed reading and reviewing this book. Five stars for this one.
Thank you to the publisher and #NetGalley for a pre-publication ebook in exchange for an honest review.
Perhaps I'm biased since I already agree with the premise of this book, but lions have always been one of my favorite animals and are totally the "king of beasts," so I enjoyed 10 Reasons to Love ... a Lion, and the way it introduces lions' characteristics, habitat, and lifestyle.
It's a short, informational read, and each double-page illustration includes some other animals and plants that are also found on the African savannah.
(Thanks to NetGalley for the review copy.)
Lions are some of the most magnificent creatures on the face of the planet. Now you can get an in-depth look at them, without being overwhelmed, or get to close. My boys and I sat down and read through this before bed. We found a lot of great information, and they gained a better understanding of how lions live and survive.
I even learned a few things myself!
Colorful illustrations with helpful information -- this is a great book for youth to learn about lions. I wanted to keep learning more and more.
With full-color spreads and interesting facts about lions, this is an engaging book. My kids all enjoyed learning about lions. We also liked seeing the other animals in their habit.
I read a copy via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
I adore this book. It is very informative and has great illustrations. I recommend for any classroom, child, and lion-loving adult!
My only criticism is that some pages are very difficult to read, as the text blends in with the illustrations.
Such a wonderful book that will have any child thinking about this endangered big cats and how majestic they are. The charcteristics are ones any child should indentify with.
The illustrations are stunning.
I received this book through netgalley, and a very interesting children's book, nice illustrations and well written storyline,a must for class library or the home.
This is a book that shall not miss from any school library or shelves from children passionate about nature and animals, particularly lions. It offers not only detailed information about the life of lions and their peers, but also about their natural environment. The scientific information is presented in an accessible way for the children, but without diminishing the relevance and the quality. There is a lot to improve in terms of illustrations though.
Each # is short and sweet, lovely illustrations alongside it. Good content for a classroom library or at-home library for the kiddos. It uses illustrations and is nonfiction. While I prefer realistic photography over illustrations I do understand the importance of art.. and these balance informative and art well.
Both downloaded through Netgalley in exchange for review. I'm auto-approved for this publisher ~

Now that I’ve read the glorious 10 REASONS TO LOVE ... A LION, I’m even more in love with the King and Queen of the Jungle.
The illustrations are lush, the descriptions are captivating about lions’ habitats, families, long-distance roars, eyes that glow in the dark. We also learn that females hunt, cubs play, and that lions remain the fiercest predators, even though their lives are threatened by hunters. Highly recommended!
Grateful to the Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Children’s and NetGalley for the early copy, in exchange for my true review.

As a preschool science teacher, I have read piles of wonderful books, but I don't always learn new facts. However, I was thrilled when I picked up 10 Reasons to Love... a Lion to find out some new lion facts! The illustrations are lovely. The length is just just right for preschool and early elementary learners. Thanks to #NetGalley for the opportunity to preview #10reasonsToLove...alion by @catherine_barr - I really enjoyed it! I can't wait to share it with my friends this fall.
The "10 Reasons to Love" is a great series to introduce animals to young toddlers, and this lion book is another great one in the series. The illustrations and text are simple, fun and easy enough to capture young children's attention.
The 10 facts presented in this book are some common knowledge about lions. Young kids for sure will find the facts fascinating. A cute picture to own but not necessary a wise long-term investment; children easily outgrown the book fairy quickly.
I wished the book elaborates more about lions' vulnerable conservation status and their roles in our ecosystem. These facts are briefly mentioned but not enough to make strong statements. Regardless, "10 Reasons to Love ... a Lion" still makes a fun and educational picture book for children.
This series is wonderful for children or those that want a brief overview of a specific animal. Readers learn about the lion's habitats, their families groupings (pride), their appearance and general facts about their lives. Even though, they are the top predators, their lives are threatened by trophy hunters and human usage encroaching upon their territory. I also did not know that porcupines are a danger to them and they are one of their favourite foods. Each page features a beautiful drawing, filled with color and, of course, lions, as well as text and labels on other animals, as well as plants. 10 Reasons to Love a Lion is a book that teachers would love to include in their classroom library, as well as school and public libraries. It is not difficult to read, so young readers will also enjoy reading this one independently. I highly recommend this book and series. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book to read. The opinions are my own.
Using an easy-to-understand format, this book presents ten reasons to love a lion. Easy to interpret illustrations show the lions in their natural settings and label highlighted features. This is a good book to use as a model for writing other persuasive texts. How about 10 Reasons to Love a Dog? Cat? Bird? Elephant? Hippo?
Catherine Barr’s Ten Reasons to Love a... Lion! is a beautiful book to teach kids all about lions as an endangered species. It gives 10 special facts about lions, from the fact that they live in prides to the fact they spend a great deal of time dozing. Each page has gorgeous artwork, with animals and land features being labelled to enhance the learning. Encourages kids to adopt a lion for a birthday or perhaps Christmas. I think this a great idea! I did a snow leopard adoption for my nephew, and a manatee for my sister wayyyy back when. Maybe I'll do a lion for him this year for his bday! I adored the very last picture, with a content male lion in a loaf. I love kitty loafs, the bigger, the better! I read this with my cubs, and we all enjoyed it. They are also interested in adopting a lion, or other endangered species. I look forward to helping them pick out their critters. And to learning why they chose as they did. A great addition to any home or classroom library!
