Description
Joel lives in a nursing home and he’s not one bit happy about it. He doesn’t like being told when to eat, when to sleep, when to take his pills. In fact, he doesn’t like living at all, and he’s decided he’s going to end his life on his terms.
When he tells retired soap-actor Frank about his dark plan, Frank urges him to go out with a bang. Together, they embark on a mission to find the perfect suicide, and along the way, discover the strength of friendship when you really feel alone.
'An engaging and poignant story that deserves to be read and enjoyed' Juliet Conlin
'A brilliantly rallying cry to society filled with wonderful characters and brilliant humour' The Bookbag
'A darkly funny, heart-breaking and ultimately uplifting story' Steven Primrose-Smith
'A testimony to the powerful medicine that a friend can be' Kirkus
Advance Praise
Praise for Dan Mooney's first novel Me, Myself and Them:
'One part The Rosie Project, one part personal Heart Of Darkness, one part Stephen King - I've never quite read anything like it...There are many novels around in recent years with characters struggling with their mental health but none that I've read as original as this. Me, Myself And Them incredibly manages to be funny, moving and terrifying all at once ...I started thinking it was a story of the absurd but welled up by the time I got to the end. Dan Mooney has something quite unique here in a story of one man's journey through (literally) his own imprisoning demons of mental health. Give it a try. I hope it finds the audience it deserves.' Rick O'Shea
'As witty as it is unsettling ... I missed my train stop, twice, because of this book ... Dan Mooney has crafted a story of the strongest kind, that is, one that holds the power to prompt thought and dialogue. And this is a story much needed.' The BookBag

Joel is an elderly man, lonely in a residential home; his wife died a few years ago, his recent roommate has just passed away and he doesn't have great relationships with his daughter or grandchildren. Enter Frank, Joel's new roommate, who listens to his plans of suicide and helps him develop them. Quickly, a strong friendship forms between the two men - could this be a new lease of life for Joel?
A sweet, endearing story - I enjoyed it a lot.
