Catherine and her husband are on a shopping expedition with their baby, Ethan. Whilst he is in a shop, Catherine is attending to Ethan in the back of a car when two men jump in, covered in blood and brandishing a gun and a knife. Off they roar and what follows is just unbelievable. Murder and mayhem ensues and we witness all the terror that Catherine is subjected to and the anxiety and fear for her child. I was mesmerised by this superbly written tale and in particular the use of the voice of the narrator. What was even more surprising was the end. I dare not say any more because it will spoil it for other readers.
They will just have to trust me when I say, OMG what a whirlwind of emotions, excitement and fear. Really would make a brilliant film.
Thank you to the author, publishers and NetGalley for providing an ARC via my Kindle in return for an honest review.
Well what a not stop, all action thrill of a ride this book was from start to finish and excellently written. Catherine abducted with her young child has to survive and find a way to escape and the story goes at a breathtaking pace as things become more and more tense and threatening. The clever twists that come towards the end of the book totally blew me away it was a shocker and made this a most addictive and brilliant read that I would highly recommend.
My thanks to NetGalley and Canelo for the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
A gripping novel, Catherine and her one year old son Ethan are taken hostage by two members of the MossSideMafia. Set in Manchester while out on a shopping trip Catherine's nightmare when she is literally in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nick Louth is a brilliant story teller and I really felt like I was there with Catherine trapped in the back of a Transit van with a crying baby which fuels the gang members anger. The best thing about this novel is the twist in the tale at the end. Unputdownable!!!!

"Trapped" by Nick Louth.
My first time reading that author, now I want to read more!
That was amazing! You understand from the start that something really bad is happening within 24 hours, someone is going to die... I was captivated right away!
Catherine and her husband are going shopping with their one year old baby. Mother and son stay in the car while daddy goes inside the store, then he hears a noise, sees the car moving, rushes outside screaming as he sees 2 people driving away in his car... with his wife and baby in the back!
They're taken hostage right in front of his eyes!
Everything goes wrong, really wrong from there as he tries to run after them, and confront the guys...
Many things happen from one page to the next, people are getting killed...
I felt so many emotions for that family, and so much anger for those mafia guys!
Really good book, well written, face paced... I couldn't put it down! It would make a great movie!
Thank you NetGalley and Canelo for the ARC of this book! This is my honest review.
Review shared on NetGalley, Goodreads, Twitter...
This book was really well written, and quite different from the usual crime stories. It starts off with a “dead husband” telling the tale, and at first I wasn’t sure if I liked it.
However, when Catherine was kidnapped and the two miscreants held her and her baby son hostage, my temper was wishing the police would just get rid of them and shoot them, they obviously had no respect for the law, or anybody else and they were just a waste of space. With each hour I was saying to my kindle, just take them out, never mind all this nanny state get rid!
But then, the twist at the end of the story was just brilliant. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
My thanks to Nick and Netgalley for the ARC.
A gripping story told in such a way that the reader actually feels to be part of this plot. A great story with a very surprising twist at the end. A guaranteed fantastic read and look forward to reading more from Nick Louth
Superb! An outstanding, detailed depiction of a hostage situation that makes you feel as if you are there on the scene. A terrifying account of a life and death situation. Riveting story with many surprises...
Highly Recommend!!!
Many thanks to Canelo Digital Publishing Ltd. and NetGalley for a wonderful journey!
What an thrilling, non stop action novel.! The author takes us right into the action from the husband's point of view right up to his death and then details the hostage situation of his wife and child. The gangsters were realistically brutal and cruel and I feared something bad would happen to Cathy who often spoke her mind. I felt terrible for her little baby who is caught in the middle of this with no idea the danger he is in. This was terrifying thrilling ride where the reader has no clue what will occur next and where the truth is even harder to reveal. Loved it!
Oh my gosh, this book offers you so much and then some more on top!!! Nick Louth has really grasped the concept of leaving readers in suspense as there are so many surprises in store. Not only that but the whole story is believable from start to finish
I’d like to thank Canelo and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Trapped’ by Nick Louth in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Liam Fretwell and Janile Cousins, members of the Moss Side Mafia, take a car from outside a delicatessen shop with the occupants, Catherine Blake and her one-year-old son Ethan, still inside, leaving Catherine’s husband Geoff seriously injured in the middle of the road. The gangsters hold them at gun-point, killing and grievously injuring anyone getting in their way. A hostage situation is mounted and a trained negotiator, ex-Royal Marine Commander Patrick Hamilton, is brought in together with the Greater Manchester Police’s Tactical Firearms Unit. Catherine has been through miscarriages and IVF treatment to have Ethan and she’ll do absolutely anything to protect him – and does!
‘Trapped’ is an amazing thriller full of suspense and excitement and so different to any others I’ve read. Most of the story is narrated by Geoff who’s having an out-of-body occurrence and is watching over what’s happening until the climax of the siege. Then Catherine takes over and gives her version of how they became involved. I started reading and found I couldn’t put my kindle down, continuing to read till the early hours of the following morning. When I reached the final twist at the end it was so surprising that I was left open-mouthed in astonishment. This is a fantastic thriller and would make a brilliant film! Well done, Nick, I’m going to look out for more of your novels.
Holy Cow! Catherine was just sitting in a car with her son Ethan when she's grabbed by two bad guys who hold her hostage. This is told from several viewpoints and at a fast clip so hold on to your hat. Not all of it is plausible, there's a fair amount of violence, but it's a well written thriller with twists that will surprise you (there's one that really got me). Catherine is one determined woman; she's not going to let anything happen to her kid. How she does this, well, that's for you to find out. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A plot driven read that would make a good movie.
