Description
Three Bonds Unbroken follows three siblings as they face the challenges of life as first generation Latvian immigrants. Set in the mid 1980’s of a simpler era, the novel takes place in Cleveland and Toronto. The oldest of the three, John, is facing the end of his marriage and its effects on his three daughters. He struggles to keep the family together. Daina is getting married for the first time at the age of 40. Karl is coming to terms with the mistakes of his past to face the future with renewed faith. Revisiting the beloved characters of The Shadow of Silver Birch, this novel shows how the family has evolved and flourished.

This is about the lives of three first generation Latvian immigrants to Canada, and about their relationships, marriages , successes and failures. I really enjoyed this book and thought the characters were well portrayed. I was rooting for them all the way through their rather troubled lives!
Three siblings mature and manage life as adults in "Three Bonds Unbroken." I enjoyed following the unique lives of John, Daina and Karl as they face relationship challenges and discover more about themselves. Their family dynamics are fairly universal for all families, not just those of Latvian descent.
I didn't really connect with the characters, though. That could be in part because this is book two of the series and doesn't include enough background information. Readers might find this book more engaging if they've read the first book in this series. Also, there is quite a bit of sexual content and some adult language I don't appreciate.
