A pleasant primer for young engineers of the future, which discusses the parts of cars and their engines, before branching off to specific vehicles – fire engines, dumper trucks and so on. There's very little text, but it and the (low level of) interactivity the characters conveying things bring are fine, and the cartoonish pictures certainly have clarity.
When our kids were toddlers they were vehicle obsessed! Trucks, cars, tractors and excavators, it was all we talked about...and they would have loved this book! Not only were they interested in seeing images of the different kinds of vehicles but they loved learning more about the different parts and how they all worked together to make the machine "go!".
The Book of Cars and Trucks is perfect for the toddler/preschooler audience who are curious about what makes these machines work and how to safely use them. Clever Cogz is the perfect reading companion for this book and the beautifully illustrated images add so much to this informative text. This has a great balance of engaging information as well as a wonderful introduction to physics and engineering which any young vehicle love will enjoy.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you #netgalley for giving me a copy of #TheBookOfCarsAndTrucks to review. I read this and decided that I couldn't share it with my son. Yet. I did go to Amazon and buy a copy so that I could give it to him for his birthday! He will be 5 and is obsessed with cars. This book is everything I could wish for in a book for him. Not only will he be learning about cars, but he'll be learning new vocabulary words. The illustrations are cute and he laughed when he saw the The Book of Rockets so I know he'll enjoy the illustrations in this book as well. I think this book would be perfect in a lower elementary setting.
I received a copy of this arc from NetGalley for an honest review. Cogz and his sidekicks Nutty and Bolt are back again to share some fun information with everyone. This time they are here to share information on cars and trucks. This book is informational and enjoyable at the same time. I see kids really liking this.
I was hoping to read this with my son, he is three, based on the cover it seemed age appropriate.
While he liked all the pictures and it was a pleasure to read, it was a little old for him at the moment but it will be a great book to put up for a year or twos time.
This is a great book for older toddlers who love vehicles.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The Book of Cars and Trucks is a colourful and educational book that teaches children about the mechanics of vehicles. I loved how colourful the drawings were without being bright and obnoxious. The writing is simple and easy to understand, putting the basics in without going on and on and becoming confusing. The questions at the end were wonderful, as they take a cute little book and turn it into a learning experience.
My sixteen month old son who loves all things that go vroom loved the pictures, this would be a great book for children to grow with.
My first thought was that my son would have loved this book when he was small. My second thought was that it isn’t the typical picture book that many might be expecting for their little ones.
While this book has fun illustrations, there isn’t the normal picture book word count. Many children will love the educational part of this book and the bright illustrations. They will learn various exciting and interesting discoveries about cars and trucks.
As an example, the book teaches that trucks carry cargo, a word that will most likely offer a teaching opportunity. The text also points out that truck drivers travel many miles and have a sleeping compartment in their cab. It teaches about the number of tires and even the type of fuel needed for large trucks.
What Concerned Me:
It’s a little advanced for what most people consider to be a picture book.
What I Liked Most:
If it fits your child’s attention span and vocabulary I highly recommend it. Perfect for many classrooms who would like to include STEM books.
