I was lucky enough to read the first book in this series and was eagerly awaiting the next instalment - it did not disappoint. This is one of the best books I’ve read in ages and I finished it in less than 5 hours.
Lizzie Hardwicke is a high class prostitute living and working in London. In this book she is persuaded to go undercover as a seamstress in Garrick’s theatre in order to uncover the truth behind some mysterious happenings. The dour Fielding and wonderful Davenport return as we pick up the characters lives effortlessly.
The authors characterisation is brilliant, Lizzie is an absolute star and the ending was perfect. You’ve to love a believable, human, strong woman who can and will survive even thrive against all odds. The author resists giving in to stereotypical female cliches too which is refreshing, Lizzie is neither sinner nor saint, but like everybody somewhere in between and likewise the men are properly developed, rounded individuals which makes them much more interesting.
I won’t say much about the plot for fear of giving away spoilers but I will comment that I didn’t guess the outcome.
I loved this and will be recommending it to everyone, I hope the next book is out soon!
I receive a ARC from Netgalley to review, all opinions are my own.

Another excellent entry from this author in the Lizzie Hardwicke series. I really enjoyed this and the first book. Lizzie is a fantastic heroine - strong, feisty, sassy - and a worthy match for Davenport. I loved the backdrop of the Drury Lane theatre and enjoyed trying to solve the mystery too. Some parts were a little more predictable, though the final twist was satisfyingly surprising. A couple scenes were a little gory, and I didn't really understand the title, but apart from that, this was a highly enjoyable read. I am really looking forward to the next installment!

My thanks to the publisher for providing an ARC via netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
