What a sweet story about Lucy Maude Montgomery. The illustrations are cute and colourful and the story about the person who brought us Anne of Green Gables was full of determination and perseverance. A role model for girls everywhere!
I've actually never read any of the Little People, BIG Dreams books despite seeing them every time I walk into a bookstore, so when I saw a few of them on Netgalley I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try them out and see what they're like.
Lucy Maud Montgomery is a children's biography of author L.M. Montgomery, from her early childhood to adulthood. It celebrates her imagination and her determination.
This is a very simple text, meant for younger readers. It's kind of like the cliff-notes version of the author's life, with it broken down to it's highlights to make it easily accessible and to the point (which is not a bad thing). As an adult reading it, and as someone who doesn't know all that much about L.M. Montgomery, it did make me want to go find out more to fill in the gaps and to have a more well-rounded picture of the author's life, but it's definitely enough information for children.
It's also accompanied with lovely illustrations that add detail and enhance the information that we get from the text.
Overall, this is a great first biography for children to access. They will learn something about a classic children's author, as well as the determination needed to succeed in something they are passionate about.
Everything about this is delightful. The drawings are full of color and whimsy. Anybody who loves Anne of Green Gables will love this quick read.
Cute, but perhaps too brief. Much more information about her life could have been included. Also the illustrations could have reflected more of her beloved Prince Edward Island than what they do.
Very brief look at the career of the author of Anne of Green Gables. Hopefully, it will raise questions and generate interest in knowing more. The illustrations are colorful and pleasing.
I cannot express just how much I love this series.
Little people, big people does not reflect where they ended up but how they began.
The author’s aim is to pitch a book at young people to introduce them to famous individuals and show how they came to be Oak Trees in their celebrated field. The choice of words therefore has to be simple and the short board book medium means a biography is as short as the guys you to whom you are reading.
So the task is in words and engaging illustrations is to create an interest, introduce the character and then allow your child to discover more at their own pace. Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is an expert at this and penned many in this collectible series. Lucy Maud Montgomery is perhaps one of the best examples of Maria’s skill as there are just a bunch of facts but nothing too racy or exciting.
For me this elevates the works and underscores their value. Such that it not always what is said but unsaid.
It is clear that young Lucy had a tough upbringing and consequently that she achieved anything is amazing.
Inspirational stuff and a pleasure to share with tomorrow’s future generation.
I absolutely adore these books they are a great way to introduce little people to some big legends, I love how they start when the legends are little and encourage children to dream and realise that anything is possible
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
This is an adorable book to introduce young children to Lucy Maud Montgomery (L.M. Montgomery). Anne of Green Gables is a favorite book series of mine. I love that this book introduces young children to her life and how she became a writer. It teaches children to dream and to carry out their dream to become what they want.

I absolutely love the Little People Big Dreams series. We homeschool and my 5 year old loves when we find these books at the library or get an ARC on NetGalley. I was SO excited to see they began this "My First" series! Perfect for even younger learners - less words, simple pictures, awesome message! This series will be great to read with my 5 and 2 year old. A great way to introduce your kids to important people and encourage them to learn more about people they particularly like. This book about Lucy Maud Montgomery is another excellent addition to an already great series!
I loved reading Anne of Green Gables as a kid, so I was super excited to check out this book about Lucy Maud Montgomery. The illustrations were super cute, and it was easy to see from this story how Montgomery was inspired to write about Anne.
I haven't read Anne of the Green Gables yet! But I already own a copy in my library so I might read this soon inspired by this Little People Story about her author!
As always the story is told so beautifully, and the illustrations are precious.
I love watching they portray an author since you are talking to future bookworms so 😍 hope to see more in the future!
My favourite books as a child was the Anne of Green Gables and I was so excited to read this book. It was an absolutely beautifully written and illustrated. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
This is such an adorable book about the big dreams of a little girl. Being Canadian Anne of Green Gables is one of our most proud children's books and one that I have read many times. I love this look into the author's life with beautiful pictures that go along with it. I especially love the picture with all of the houses filled with people reading the book.
Overall, a wonderful addition to this great Children's series.
This picture book includes the biography of Lucy Maude Montgomery, author of the famous Anne of the Green Gables book series - which I haven't read. I am only vaguely familiar with the anime that I sometimes watched as a child, and I knew nothing beforehand about this woman. So in contrast to the book about Jane Goodall, I learned things I didn't knew, which is always nice.
Again, the pictures are colourful and enganging. Especially the view of her grandparent's house reminded me much of a drawing a child would do - I am not saying that the illustrator's drawing style is infantile, I mean more about the colour choices that were made. Bold colours, many of them. The sky is blue, the roof of the house red, the grass is green. I think I would have liked the pictures a lot as I was in the target-audience-age-range.
Montgomery's story is presented as that of a girl who always wanted to write and worked hard and fulfilled herself her wish instead of waiting for a prince or a fairy or whatever. I can get behind that. If I had to recommend a picture book, this would definetly come to mind.
I recieved a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Another beautiful addition to this series which I love to read. Gorgeous illustrations accompany Lucy Maud Montgomery's story too at the perfect level for readers of all ages. I enjoyed reading her story as she was someone who I had never heard of.
This series is delightful!
A perfect way to introduce little ones to biographies - and important people in history! Vibrant, engaging and colorful, this title tells a perfectly condensed biography of L.M. Montgomery, A wonderful addition to the series of notable women in history.
It was a very cute book and I loved the illustrations. I felt that it was a bit rushed, especially the part where she went from writing in secret to working for the newspaper.
Just a little more detail would make this book even better but overall I thought it was great. Would definitely add to my personal collection.
The Little People, Big Dreams series makes books for even littler people! This one is part of the My First...series. It simply tells the story of the author of the Anne of Green Gables books. Children will learn about Lucy, who was raised by her grandparents. She had imagination and found a way to write her beloved classic novels.
This book provides an easy introduction to the author. It is nicely and engagingly illustrated. I, myself, want to collect all these books!
Thanks to NetGalley and Quarto for this book in exchange for an honest review.
I just cannot get enough of these books of hers! Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara once again did a great job highlighting a role model in her book Lucy Maud Montgomery. Not only does this book show children that they can fulfill their dreams even when others tell them they’re wrong but it also points them in the direction of another series that they can read and enjoy. I hope we will get many more of these books!
While scanning through the books on NetGalley, I stumbled across this awesome new board book series for babies and toddlers. The vibrant, yet simple, covers displaying historical women that I have grown up learning caught my eye, and it instantly drew me to dig in and see what this series is all about.
Through my reading and my post-reading research, I have learned that Little People, Big Dreams is a new series that focuses on introducing the youngest of readers to amazing, wonderful women that have influenced the world. Each book is purposely designed in order to highlight one woman who has made a difference in the world. It tells the story of that women's dream and how she was able to make her dream come true despite the biggest of obstacles.
I loved the simplicity of the design of the series, Little People, Big Dreams. The authors and illustrators who have worked on this project clearly understand their audience, and they have made each of the books reflect exactly what they want their youngest of readers to be exposed to. Designed for babies and toddlers, Little People, Big Dreams uses simple text and engaging pictures to tell the story of each woman in a kid-friendly manner.
Often times, my biggest complaint with board books is that they lack plots or messages. Even though board books are purposely designed for babies and toddlers, I absolutely believe they still need to be strong examples of books that contain both strong plots and messages. All age levels of children need to have access to great texts.
I loved how Little People, Big Dreams designed their biography series for baby and preschool readers. There are not many nonfiction book series out there. This series is absolutely helping to pave the way to push the norm for what we typically think of when we think of baby books. Little People, Big Dreams series is a positive example of how even our youngest of readers can read and learn from awesome books!
The brilliance of Little People, Big Dreams continues on through their story of Lucy Maud Montgomery. As the author of one of the most beloved fictional characters in history, Anne of Green Gables, Lucy's life and love for all things literacy shines through her autobiography. You and your little ones will love curling up and reading about the author behind Anne and all the chaos, love, and inspiration that jubilant character brought to those around her.

Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced reading e-copy in exchange for my honest review!
I give this book 4 out of 5 birds. I am a HUGE fan of L.M Montgomery. She wrote one of my favorite characters, Anne (WITH AN E). I absolutely adored the illustration in this children’s book. It was bright and captured my attention. I thought it was beautifully done. I’m always looking for books to share with my daughters that SHOW strong women. I did feel a little bit robbed with a lack of information. I felt that there could have been maybe 2 to 3 more pages to fill in some of the gaps of her life. However… it’s a kids book and not a full length novel. This is one I would buy for my collection!

This was very lovely little book, which will definitely become a treasure in any child's library. Beautiful illustrations, inspiring story and that good feeling you have when you finish a book :)
My favorite of this series, thus far, I love knowing kids get a glimpse behind the scenes of such a great author--seeing how she chose to rewrite her past hardships into stories that her brought her to life--and gave joy to so many others. The illustrations are fun and vivid, and I appreciate the summarized bio with photographs included at the back.
I love this series and this is another great addition - My First Lucy Maud Montgomery is a great introduction to a fascinating lady who had a brilliant personality and a determination to become a writer. She is a great inspiration to get children to want to be follow their dreams and never give up. 5 stars - very highly recommended!!
I am a big fan of the Little People, Big Dreams series! And the children also enjoy them!
I like how Lucy Maud Montgomery's life is drawn in an easy way for children to understand. As with other protagonists of the series, it fascinated me enough to search for more information about her life. I find the book could have mentioned more about her role as a Canadian writer.
Thank you to Net Galley and Frances Lincoln Children's Books for providing me with an e-book copy in exchange for my honest review!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley!
awesome kids book.
we loved the illustrations.
the story was unique & easy to read!
This Little People, Big Dreams series is such a great series of picture books for children. I love seeing the stories of all of these inspirational people being told for kids! It’s definitely meant for the younger kids, as it is very short and has few words. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful!
I honestly cannot get enough of this series! And this one is about a Canadian? Sign me up! I love that these books feature an important person from history and make the story appealing for young children while not bogging them down with facts. Lucy Maud Montgomery created the very famous Anne of Green Gables books which holds a special spot in my heart(in Ontario we had a cartoon Anne of Green Gables show as well as reading the book was in our curriculum)!
Thanks again to Netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review!
Adorable intorduction to important figures book yet again! I love that these books are a great stepping stone for toddlers and other little ones to learn about all types of influential people.
Another beautifully illustrated biography for a woman who over fame challenges to achieve great things. I love learning about new people and this one certainly inspires.
I am a big fan of this series and I would read books back to back!
The Lucy Maud Montgomery’s life is perfectly illustrated and very accessible for the kids.
A great way to present inspirational lives to the little ones!
Little People, Big Dreams is such a lovely series and this latest edition, L.M. Montgomery, does not disappoint. Though I’ve not read any of her work (gasp!), I used to watch the original tv series starring Megan Follows (who will always, always be Anne to me!), so Anne of Green Gables is near and dear to my heart.
Aside from highlighting the life and accomplishments of an esteemed female author, I love this book because it might inspire some more children to read her stories. In fact, I’m now inspired not only to go back and re-watch the original tv series, but to finally read the series. But I digress…
As an adult and avid reader, I’m always excited to learn more about the lives of authors. Once again, I learned a great deal about L.M. Montgomery while reading this book. However, what is particularly pertinent for children is her persistence and positive attitude. Despite a less than stellar childhood, she found a way to make herself happy and tenaciously pursued her dreams. That’s an example we can all learn from.
"Anne of Green Gables" was my favorite TV-show when I was a little kid! Only later I learned of the books this story is based on, and as soon as they were available in my part of the world I read them all, of course!
In this short biography I now learned that Lucy Maud is actually very much like Anne, she is even depicted with the distinctive braids in the cute illustrations. It's too bad that the book ends already with her publication of the first Anne book, but on the other hand it fits the theme of the series - with this book she fulfilled her big dream! Inspirational!
A charming story for all ages! Such a cute depiction of how L.M. Montgomery became the beloved author of the "Anne-girl" we all cherish.
My First L. M. Montgomery is a new board book in the series Little People, Big Dreams. Written by Mª Isabel Sánchez Vegara and illustrated by Anuska Allepuz, it is due out 6th Aug 2019 from Quarto on their Frances Lincoln imprint. Aimed at babies to the youngest readers, it's 32 pages, perfect for a storytime or read-along for the youngest. It's available as a boardbook.
This entire series really impresses me with its biographies of people who lived quite difficult lives and experienced opposition, racism, threats of violence and other things which might not be entirely suitable for young kids. The way the books are written doesn't completely avoid or sugarcoat what they lived through; it also doesn't present it in a way I would be uncomfortable reading to my own or others' kids.
In this particular book in the series, young Maud suffers the early loss of her mother and her father leaves her in the care of her grandparents, who provided for her physically but were remote and generally not affectionate. She turned to her prodigious imagination and the incredible nature around her to keep her company in her isolation.
The art supports and enhances the simple, stark history beautifully.
Five stars for the book and the series.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes (less)
A nice book to get your littles interested in L. M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables. Short with colorful pictures which is just right for preschool.

Thank you for the free review copy Quatro Publishing and NetGalley. I love biographical picture books like this for young readers. This is the type of book spark interest to learn more about Lucy Maud Montgomery and/or Anne of Green Gables. I've read a few books about L.M. Montgomery, and this is perfect introduction for kids. The pictures are beautifully illustrated, and evoke a sense of Green Gables.

(General series review) These are fabulous stories about great women and men in history (for the most part). The illustrations are so amazing, both for kids and adults. There is a brief history on the person that explains how this person contributed to history and matters. Being a huge fan of Lucy Maud Montgomery, this is one book I will definitely be buying in physical form.
***I received an eARC from NETGALLEY***
I am not a big fan of Anne of Green Gables. I read the book years ago but I still can picture her very well. By mentioning her name, I remember how dramatic and talkative she was. She was so real. I wish this book can tell us more about how she was created. But I realize it is not about Anne. It is about the author. I know nothing about her until I read this one. There are not many things to tell but may be it is enough.
This book gives curious readers an idea of how Lucy Maude Montgomery came to become a writer in spite of early obstacles. It gives parents an insight into the origins of Anne Shirley which is one of fictions most admired characters.
"Lucy Maud Montgomery" by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is a short story for children about L.M. Montgomery, the writer of the beloved children's classic, Anne of Green Gables. It tells the story of how Lucy overcame the odds and became a successful novelist despite the many roadblocks she had to overcome.
This is a story to teach kids that they can succeed if they try their best and never give up.
I received this eBook free of charge from Quarto Publishing Group – Francis Lincoln Children's Books via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. I did not receive any fiscal compensation from either company for this review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.
A good addition to this Babylit series. A beloved author for the parents and a good message about persistence for the child. A simple story with attractive illustrations.
This was a really cute little (summary) biography that I thought was a great way to introduce little ones to who Lucy Maud Montgomery was and how she became the author that she did. The pictures are colorful and attractive and easy for little ones to engage with. It made me want to read the longer version!
*I received a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review
I really enjoy this series and the inclusion of Canadian treasure Lucy Maud Montgomery is well deserved. While I really loved the illustrations in this (the use of colour especially) I found that the bio was a little sparser then some of the others in this series so while it is a good introduction to Montgomery it definitely could have used more details. I was left wanting more and I think a young reader might feel the same way.
I received this arc from NetGalley for an honest review. This is a great first biography for young readers about Lucy Maud Montgomery. I really enjoy this series and hope they continue to publish more.
This has to be one of the most popular series of biographical books we have in our library.
They are constantly being borrowed and requested. Children are so curious about famous individuals from the past and these are a delightful and easy to read collection. They provide plenty of information and facts about the person alongside truly lovely illustrations.
LM Montgomery is a particular favourite of mine, having lived on PEI for many years. It is a special place where Anne of Green Gables is hugely popular with locals and tourists alike.
I hope there are many more of these brilliant books coming onto the market- there is a true need and desire to read about historical figures.
The perfect introduction to the beloved author of Anne of Green Gables! Thank you to the publisher and thank you to Sanchez Vergara who has given me an excuse to introduce a new generation of readers to Marilla, Matthew, Anne, Gilbert, Diana, Miss Stacey, etc.
Another great addition to the Little People, Big Dreams series. Anne of Green Gables is my all-time favorite classic novel! Despite this, I did not know all that much about the author. This book is very informative (even to an adult) and well written. The illustrations are gorgeous and really enhanced the story. This is definitely going to be one of my go-to recommendations for young readers at my library.
This particular series has gained so much love and adoration that I had to see it for myself to believe it. Needless to say I was bowled over by it. Perfect for little readers at home and a perfectly aligned resource for the homeschooling parents.
Considering that I love all that Lucy Maud Montgomery wrote, I had to love this book.
This is a nonfiction picture book for children highlighting the life of Lucy Maud Montgomery.
Lucy dreamt of becoming a writer as a young girl and pursued this dream, at first in secret, at a time when writing was not acceptable for girls or women. Despite much resistance, Lucy went on to become a famous writer. Her most popular written works are the “Anne of Green Gables” books, the first of which was published in 1908.
This story is excellent encouragement for young girls to follow their dreams, and to help them believe that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.
This little book is a quick read and uses very sweet and simplistic language and illustrations that are easy for children to understand and love.
'L.M. Montgomery (Little People, Big Dreams)' by Ma Isabel Sanchez Vegara with art by Anuska Allepuz is a picture book about the author of Anne of Green Gables, among other things.
When Lucy Maud Montgomery was very young, her mother died, and her father left her in the care of her grandparents. She felt a bit out of place, but she liked to explore and she had a good imagination. She also liked to read and write, even though she was told those things were a waste of time for a girl. This didn't stop her and she wrote in secret, and continued to write. Eventually, she gave the world a memorable character in Anne Shirley.
Included at the end of the book is a timeline of L.M. Montgomery's life. Like other books in the series, this one is interesting and uplifting. I really love the different art styles of the books and this one is no different. Anuska Allepuz' art is bright and cheerful.
I received a review copy of this ebook from Quarto Publishing Group-Frances Lincoln Childrens, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.
The ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The ‘My First Little People, Big Dreams’ series provides informative and inspirational biographies about people who left a mark on this earth, no matter what difficulties they have encountered.
These stories are very short, but that’s because they’re books for children, so it’s totally understandable.
I think they are a very smart and wonderful way to introduce little children to such important figures.
Here there's the story of Lucy Maud Montgomery, the famous author of "Anne of Green Gables". I think her determination to never give up on chasing one's dream could be of great inspiration to children, but also to adults.
I received an e-arc from net for review
I love this series, it's always a joy to read about someone who I may a lot, a bit or nothing at all. The art style is pleasing to look at, these are books would be a great addition to many elementary classrooms.
