This is such an Amazing collection of famous and less known Fairytales from Brothers Grimm. It took me 2 days to read this humongous (around 800 pages) book but not a second of boredom. The stories are as they were told originally full or dark tales that impart wisdom. There are coloured as well as black and white illustrations by Arthur Rackham. Definitely looking forward to adding this to my Fairytale collection. Thank you NetGalley and Publisher for the early review copy.
It's hard to review an anthology of more than 200 fairytales and short stories but everyone know at least half of the Grimm Brothers' tales so what I definitely have to say it's that this particular edition is a must-have in any bookshelf because the inside and outside of the book is so gorgeous I can't even.
The style in every tale is raw, dark and twisted and it's just so delightful to read each and every one and have the opportunity to come back reading them anytime you want with this beautiful compilation. This is an almost 800 pages, 100 illustrations and hardcover edition of one of the most well-known, timeless bedtime stories that not only younger readers but also adult ones will enjoy thanks to the wisdom inside their simplicity.
Plus it has deckled edges! My sweet spot for books
I am all grown up. I grew up on Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Today I felt like going through them again and read, remember and dream that I can be a swan in today's world, the Golden egg for my loved ones and a reader to my child, and nieces and nephews who forgot that fairy tales bring happiness and build on imagination. Beautifully written book. I just hope it was available in kindle.
Thanks NetGalley for a chance to check this book out! I was so excited to see a new collection of the classic Grimm's Fairy Tales. I have an old hardcover version that is well-loved from my childhood. The stories are fascinating, whimsical, and grimly imaginative. Would definitely buy this version for the beautiful cover and unique illustrations that are sprinkled throughout the pages.
I have always loved Grimm's Fairy Tales, and I'm very excited that I now have a complete version! The stories are excellent, as always, but I would recommend buying a hardcover copy simply because this new edition is BEAUTIFUL.
Very extensive collection! Has well known Grimm’s fairy tales and some that I’ve never heard of. The stories were kept short and readable with detailed art and illustrations throughout. Feels like something you would find in an old book shoppe or attic. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for giving me this book in exchange for an honest review.

A great collection of fairytales! Filled with the classics and gorgeous artwork to go along with the stories. A perfect edition for all ages. I really enjoyed reading these and rediscovering some of my favorite fairytales and some I have yet to read.
This is an amazing book.
There are stories that are timeless and such is the case of the Grimm brothers' tales. I grew up with these stories and I have some editions of their stories, and this collection is perfect for fairy tale's lovers lovers. The illustrations are perfect, in that old style that is also a little creepy.
I loved this collection and will definitely buy the hardcover!!! I need this in my hands!
A fabulous collection of classic fairy tales! Highly recommended to all ages (maybe not little kids, lol).
I received a copy of this book but it in no way influences my review.
Oh my god! I loved this book. I am definitely getting a copy of it for my bookshelf.
The illustrations are so gorgeous and the stories are so nostalgic and stunning.
I love how this book captures all the little stories and the color illustrations are gorgeous as well.
Definitely highly recommend this book in everyone's bookshelf!
This is a beautiful and extensive collection of Grimm's Fairy Tales. I've read plenty of collections before, but never a "complete" work. The illustrations are beautiful and enhance the stories. I would love to add this book to our collection.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
I received a e-copy of the book from the publisher through netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
This book is awesome. I grew up hearing and reading these stories all the time. My father used to say me the story of Snow white, Rapunzel, Cinderella and much more. This book made me relive my childhood days again.
Overall this book is the best gift to any child or even adults. This book have everything which a book lover wants!!!!
The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales is undoubtedly one of the most classic and enduring collection of stories ever created. What sets this edition apart is that it includes Arthur Rackham's 1909 stunning illustrations. Also, can we talk about the cover by Beth Middleworth? Amazing.
The illustrations and stories are simply magical. Quite the enjoyable read of about 800 pages so become immersed and enjoy!
I've wanted to read some of the original Grimm's fairytales for a long time, and would love to have a beautiful edition and this one is definitely a strong contender!
What I love about this book is how, aside from having lovely illustrations, you can dip in and out of some of these dark fairytales. Many are familiar and it was interesting to see how they originally were read, many I'd never even heard of and, again, I enjoyed reading these!
Definitely a must for fans of fairytales.
This is a very complete edition with beautiful illustrations! I cannot wait to get my hands on the physical copy!
The Grimm Brothers wrote some of our best loved fairy tales. Here 211 (can you believe so many ?) are placed together in one lavishly illustrated volume. Revisit stories that you may already know including Hansel and Gretel; Cinderella and/or Little Snow White and then go on to read fairy tales and legends that may be new discoveries for you.
This book looks like it would make a wonderful gift, either to one's self or a child in your life. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.
This book was one of the great fairy tale readings that I have read throughout my life, I had never given myself the task of reading all the Grimms brothers' stories, and I must say that it takes me 3 and a half days In reading them, it is very difficult to review more than 200 fairy tales, but in a simple way to say that it is one of the best, that it has the entire collection and also a variety of stories that you may well like more than others depends on the reader, but it made me go back to the past and enjoy the stories that are original and dark that give us wisdom. Similarly, complementing the beads, they have their respective illustrations, which are wonderful, both in black and white and in color by Arthur Rackham. Without a doubt, it is a book that deserves to be added to the personal bookshelf, and that from time to time you can enjoy these endearing tales.
Absolute classic! Loved the illustrations. Definitely one to buy in hardback to keep forever when it is published. A beautiful gift for lovers of literature, I'm sure.
The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales - all your favorites, plus many you may have never read before. The color and black and white illustrations add interest to the stories. This is a wonderful collection for fans of Grimm's fairy tales.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group – Rock Point and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for my honest review.
This is a gorgeous, complete collection of Grimm's Fairy Tales. It is pretty huge, at almost 650 pages, so not ideal for a public library, but a good present and great addition to a home library. I like the font, and about half of the photos, although the other half were pretty dark, and I would have liked them brighter or clearer.
This is a gorgeous collection of Grimm's Fairy Tales with absolutely beautiful and period-specific drawings. The translation, too, is different than the one I have at home and I like it very much. ("Little Red Riding Hood" becomes "Little Red Cap.") Like the beautiful Poe book by the same publisher it has a great timeline of the Grimms' lives and times and a very complete index in the back.
In addition to some of the universally known tales like Snow White and Rose Red, Briar Rose, and Red Riding Hood, this book has lesser known but familiar gorgeous dark tales like the Juniper Tree (a favorite when I was a kid, though reading it again I was struck by how morbid it is!) and the Glass Coffin. I have a collection of the Selected Tales on my bookshelf, but I would love to purchase a physical copy of this one so I can have even the most obscure ones. (Side note, I had never before read The Willful Child -- there are some stories in here like that one that nowadays it might be criminal to read to your children. But your child will probably stop being willful?)
This is a great historic collection presented in the beauty it deserves!
Many thanks to Orion Publishing and NetGalley for the advance copy. I am going to buy this and put it on my bookshelf next to my new Poe collection.
I absolutely adored this book. These are the stories that transport me back to my childhood. They are beautiful and once you begin, you simply cannot stop reading them. I recommend this anyone and everyone. Beautiful!
This is such a beautiful collection of stories. There is so much nostalgia and history rooting with these stories. This book is the perfect addition to any family library. Thank you NetGalley and Publisher for the early review copy.
With 201 fairy tales and ten children’s legends, The Complete Grimm’s Fairy Tales really is complete! There are also 50 colorful illustrations and 64 in black and white to make the tales come to light.
First of all, these tales have an earlier sense of what is an appropriate story for children. I didn’t realize Cinderella was one of the original Grimm’s fairy tales. However, life is much grimmer for everyone involved than in the Disney version. The stepsisters perform surgery on their own feet to wear the slipper. Later, those seemingly nice and cheerful birdies that helped Cinderella, peck out both eyes of both the stepsisters. Payback was a witch in the early 1800s, I guess.
With so many choices and the original illustrations, you can’t go wrong in purchasing this book. While some of the tales are familiar, most are not. However, I think some of the stories might terrorize very young children. The Complete Grimm’s Fairy Tales would be a great gift for an adult or teen though. 4 stars!
Thanks to Rock Point, Quarto Publishing, and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
What isn't there to love about the classic Grimm Fairytales?! This is a beautiful edition of the iconic stories, and I definitely shall be keeping an eye out for the physical release.
Grimm's Fairy Tales were a huge part of my childhood and probably spawned my love for reading. I think these stories are the spark of imagination. Re-reading these as an adult was still such a joy. I'll definitely be buying the hardcover of this book when it comes out.
A great collection of bed time stories for kids! There are plenty short stories to keep adults entertained as well. Most of the stories have morals, some good, some bad. Reminded me when people used to tell stories to teach a lesson and not just to entertain. It has illustrations too.
Thanks to the publishers for sending me this copy in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group – Rock Point and Net Galley for providing me with an ARC of this book.
This is a collection of all 201 Grimm's Fairy Tales including some of my favorites and many more that I had never heard of. This is a nice compilation with both black and white images as well as some color plates that would be nice to add to anyone's fairy tale collection.
I have always loved the Grimm Fairy Tales, ever since being a child and being fascinated by the sometimes harsh endings and the morals taught.
I was so pleased to get my hands on this digital copy as an arc from Netgalley and the publishers in exchange for a review. This edition did not disappoint, the stories beautifully captured within, and told wonderfully faithfully just like I remember them as a child. They are also complemented with both color and black and white illustrations which only add to the nostalgia and being the story to life..
I love this copy so much I think I will buy myself a physical copy as an e book just isn’t the same.
Thank you Netgalley for letting me read this book in return for an honest review.
What it's about:
The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales is a huge book with over 200 classic tales that have been collected. Tales such as 'The Golden Goose', 'The Fox and The Cat' and 'Snow White and Rose Red' are in this beautifully illustrated (Arthur Rackham) book. While the illustrations are not on every page, they are a welcome surprise whether the art is in black and white or full colour.
I would like to note that as it is such a large anthology, not all stories will be brilliant or even liked but overall, I liked this.
Pros:
Beautiful art
The stories seem to be direct translations
Good contents so pages for certain stories can easily be found
It is nice to be able to read parts of a book and not have to read it all or in any specific order- this is definitely something to look at if you are having a readers block
Cons:
The real shame about this is that I got a digital copy as it means that I can not display the beautiful hardcover in my bookcase
It could just be the digital file I received, but I found that the writing is a little small for my eyes
Rating
5⭐
Would I read it again:
Yes
Would I recommend it:
I would, especially to classic lovers or lovers of tales.

This beautiful and huge edition of the complete Grimm's Fairy Tales isn't lying when they say it is complete! With 201 Fairy Tales and 10 children's legends. Every little detail of this is very well thought from the font, space between the fairy tales to the beautiful colored and black and white illustrations. In all, this is a must to anyone that likes to collect beautiful editions, also great for gifts!
Every knows the Grimm’s fairytales. They have been a part of my life since I was a child, and they have been influential in children’s lives. Now they’ve been packaged in a beautifully bound edition with gorgeous illustrations from the amazing artist Arthur Rackham. Many of the stories we already know, some waiting to be discovered, and many that aren’t afraid to go dark. There are over two hundred tales to sink your teeth into. There’s a reason the Grimm’s fairytales have survived for so long, and one tale can whisk you away to another magical world.
Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity.
This is a wonderful edition of classic children's fairy tales.
I highly recommend this for adults and children.
This is an excellent collection. This is like your favorite movie or tv show. If you see it you want to watch it. This is the book version of Van Helsing for me. I have read the stories over and over again since I was a child and even now in my 30s it is still a great selection of tales and unique its presentation.
An excellent new edition of the classical collection of Brothers Grimm tales, based on Margaret Hunt 1897 translation. The introduction is equally worth reading, as it has references about, on one side the historical and cultural context when those stories were collected, and on the other side about the content of the story. Personally, I always found Grimm stories relatively grim, with a consistent story of violence and cruelty. The explanation offered is that they were aimed to prepare the children to deal to the everyday life violence and occurrences.
The volume includes all the well-knows stories as Snow White and Rapunzel, but also other stories less famous but equally relevant.
I love reading the classic fairytales. They're great.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me a copy.
Beautiful and captivating stories. These are timeless. I want to buy a hard copy of this book! Very impressed with how these stories were retold.
Having close ties to the Brothers Grimm's birthplace, I've seen tons of different editions of their fairytale collection in my time and collected various illustrations from each, so I was a bit disappointed to see that this edition features Arthur Rackham's drawings - which, although beloved, are ones I've encountered many times before and nothing new. Still, this is a classic fairytale book that will give your children nightmares - the true German Gothic experience.
Wow, what a beautiful collection of classics! I don't think you can ever be too old for fairy tales and my sheer excitement of this book proves just that.
Beautiful illustrations throughout.
Fantastic, original tales (not the Disney-esque sugar coating we have now).
Perfect!
I will always be a sucker for a collection of fairy tales, no matter how old I get!
This is a really beautiful collection, with all the classics and the lesser known tales (at least, lesser known to me!) The cover and the illustrations are stunning, and I especially loved reading the introduction which gave a brief history of the Grimm brothers - some interesting facts I would never have known before I read this.
You can never go wrong with a good quality collection of fairy tales and this is DEFINITELY one I would recommend!
Thank you #Netgalley and Rock Point (Quarto Publishing Group) for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I have loved delving into these fairy tales as an adult. It brings back some great memories of being read some of these as a child. There was many I was very familiar with and so many I haven't heard before and was unfamiliar with. But I enjoyed learning some new ones along the way and the lessons it teaches. I would love to read them to my own children one day.
Loved the illustrations, and I must confess I have not read all the stories, but rather the familiar ones. These are the darker original versions of the old stories, which over the years have been sanitised and Disneyfied. There are many more stories than the few familiar ones we all grow up with, and as part of European folklore, definitely worth a read.
Thanks to the publisher for a review copy.
A beautiful book full of fantastic stories. I've always loved the original grimms tales and It's lovely to have them all in one book. Will definitely be buying a copy.
The Complete Grimm’s Fairy Tales by Jacob Grimm, Willhelm Grimm is a full and complete collection of all their classic tales. Full of nostalgia and magic, this is a brilliant collection for young and old.
Thanks to Quarto Publishing Group for the DRC!
This edition is very beautiful, I'm sure fans will love it!
I only had a few issues with it... The font being so small made reading very difficult, at least considering the digital copy I received. It wasn't available for kindle, and adobe wouldn't let me increase the size. That was a bit frustrating. I took longer than I expected to read it for that reason. And I confess that I skipped some stories... I'm sure I would have liked it better if I hadn't been so tired reading. But anyway, I know these stories are important, I've been reading them all my life, and I believe readers won't have much trouble with the hardcover/paperback editions.
The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales is a stunning collection based on the 1897 Margaret Hunt translation of the original tales alongside the gorgeous illustrations by Arthur Rackham from the 1909 Constable edition. This reformat and re-release contains 211 stories (The Three Sluggards and The Twelve Idle Servants are split into two stories in this collection as in the Hunt translation). Due out 4th August 2020 from Quarry on their Rock Point imprint, it's 752 pages and will be available in hardcover format (other editions available in other formats).
This is a -stunning- collection full of margin art, chapter headings, beautiful reproductions of Rackham's creepy-but-beautiful illustrations, and so many wonderful absolutely archetypal stories which resonate on an almost prehistoric consciousness. They're so much a part of our shared history that most people can't recall where they first heard them. The included support materials in this edition provide useful background context and history in the form of an erudite introduction by Dr. Lori M. Campbell, along with historical notes and a timeline, alphabetical index for finding stories quickly, and an abbreviated bibliography/further reading.
It's worth noting that these are the non-Bowdlerized versions of these stories. For people who grew up on Mother Goose, there is a lot more appendage cutting, murder, mayhem, dishonesty, and darkness here than people might remember. I had, back in my childhood, been gifted my grandmother's copy of these stories and remember being absolutely terrified by them. This is a classic historically important work, but I don't recommend them for bedtime reading for small children (unless you want them to probably grow up to be like me - a grisly fate).
This collection deserves all the stars.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes
I have always loved Grimm's Fairy Tales. So it is nice to be able to read some I have read before and some I've never heard of. They are great to read when you are wanting the originals and not adaptations. With some illustrations to go along with them they are great stories to even be able to read to your kids.
Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Rock Point for sending me this ARC!
This edition of The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales is delightful.
Some are tales we grew up hearing and loving and others are incredibly new (at least to me) and I enjoy it very much.
A stunning edition with illustrations in black and white that make the whole experience new and magical.
I have loved Grimm's Fairy Tale since I was little and it was really awesome to revisit this universe.
I recommend it to anyone who never lost the feeling that the world is much better when we let our child side shine.
Thanks netgalley and the publisher for granting me a free copy of this ebook in exchange of an honest review.
