Description
WOULD YOU STILL WANT THE TRUTH IF IT COST YOU EVERYTHING?
When Josh's partner, Grace, dies in a tragic accident, he is left with full custody of her seven-year-old son.
Josh has always acted like a father to Logan, and so he doesn't hesitate to become his legal guardian. But when Josh can't find any paperwork associated with Logan's birth, his memories of Grace putting off making their family official begins to trouble him.
The further Josh searches into Grace's past, the darker the secrets are that he uncovers. It's not long before he starts to question who the woman he loved really was, and where her 'son' really came from.
If Josh's fractured family has only been held together by lies, will the truth destroy it?
'Suspense, grief and family drama. Powerful.' Kimberly Belle, bestselling author of The Marriage Lie

I never repeat the blurb. Enjoyable read although I'd guessed the "reveal" some time before the end. Quite a unique ptemise. Would read more...
Josh is devastated when his partner Grace dies suddenly, leaving his in sole charge of her son, Logan...but as Josh looks into adoption things don't seem quite right and it sets Josh on a twisty path to discover the truth.
This took me a while to get into the story and I wasn't sure where it was going. The character I felt most sorry for was Felicia!
Did enjoy this but thought Neighbours was more gripping.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book, this is my honest opinion.
When Grace dies in a tragic accident, her partner josh is left to care for her son. Trying to find his birth certificate causes Josh to realise he never knew Grace at all and Logan is not her son. If not hers, then where did he come from. I enjoyed this one. I warmed to the characters quickly and I enjoyed the twists and turns of the plot. It was a good read and I would recommend it

Josh’s girlfriend whom is named Grace dies in a tragic accident. She has a son named Logan in which happened due to a one night stand and Josh is the only father Logan has know and Josh even wants to formally adopt Logan to give him some stability he really needs while during the search for the necessary paperwork he makes astonishing discoveries. The story is told by Josh's POV.
4 stars- a very great thriller and mystery for me, had me hooked from day 1.
Her Secret Son by Hannah Mary McKinnon.
This story follows Josh, he is living his best life with girlfriend Grace and her son Logan. But when she dies tragically from a fall on the ice, he starts to realise his girlfriend has many secrets and he starts to question everything! Who was she, and where to her son come from?
I really enjoyed this book! I found the main character Josh and the way he handled certain situations frustrating but so realistic! Not everything in his life is perfect, and he had normal human reactions to situations and didn’t automatically know how to handle every situation perfectly which seems to be more common in books at the moment. I liked how he didn’t handle situations well and he struggled, but in the end he did his best and had Logan’s best interests at heart.

Josh’s girlfriend Grace dies in a tragic accident. Grace has a son Logan, a product of a one night stand and Josh is the only father he has known. Josh wishes to officially adopt Logan to give the child the stability he desperately needs and during the search for the necessary paperwork he makes astonishing discoveries. The story is told by Josh.
I really enjoyed this slow burner domestic mystery drama and one of the main reasons is the characterisation. Josh has overcome some issues in his life, he has messed up in the past but his determination to move forward with Logan is admirable. One of the strongest elements in the novel is the touching bond between Logan and Josh who need each other to overcome their raw grief over losing Grace. Logan is adorable and his issues after the loss of his mother are very well portrayed. Josh has very good intentions and while some of what he does is not necessarily wise it comes from a place of love. The story of Grace gets more and more twisty and surprising as Josh makes discoveries and tension, mystery and suspense builds well. The ending is something you don’t see coming, it’s possibly a bit of a stretch but it’s certainly dramatic and it fits well with what we learn of Grace.
Overall, a very enjoyable and gripping read.
With thanks to NetGalley and Hodder and Stoughton
Hannah Mary McKinnon is fast becoming one of my favourite authors.
Her Secret Son is the third book of Hannah’s I have read and I was sucked into it by the end of the first chapter.
Her Secret Son is the story of Josh, Grace and their son Logan.
Josh isn’t Logan’s biological father but he, with his partner Grace have brought Logan up since he was a baby and Logan called him Dad.
Grace dies suddenly and not wanting to lose Logan Josh tries to get the paper work together to ensure he remains Logan’s father. Only there is a lack of any paperwork for Logan and Josh starts to suspect Grace wasn’t his biological mother either!
Like I said I was gripped from the first chapter. I loved the relationship Josh and Logan had and I understood Josh needed answers to protect that relationship. I never saw the ending coming nor had any idea what Josh would find out and that’s what I love about Hannah’s writing.
I can’t wait for the next book!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for gifting me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
loved this book. Good plot twists and an interesting story. Thought I had figured out the storyline once but of course I was wrong.
Great book.
Brilliant, just brilliant! This is the first book I’ve read by Hannah and I’m excited to read more, she had me gripped with this story from the start, a well deserved 5 stars.
Her Secret Son is an original and captivating read which takes the reader on an emotional rollercoaster as the plot unfolds.
I enjoyed this thriller.
Josh is devastated when his partner Grace dies suddenly and is determined to make sure he can legally bring up Grace’s son, Logan, who he’s been a father to for many years. However, he hits a snag when he can’t find Logan’s birth certificate and soon comes a dawning realisation that Grace has many secrets.
This was a well paced book with good characters and an interesting storyline. I wasn’t keen on the ending as it felt a bit rushed but it was a satisfactory conclusion.
I particularly liked the character of Lisa as a supportive older sibling and felt Logan was a typical 7 year old! Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for my copy of this book.
This is a sad story , but a well written one . I enjoyed it and will look for more work from this author
Rating: 4 stars
I inhaled this book in less than a day. Normally books with this genre can be quite slow at the start and it takes a while for it to be interesting, but I loved this right from the beginning. The author uses beautiful writing, moving me to tears in mourning, and makes you feel all the feelings of the characters right through.
I did like the plot, I think it wasn't as predictable as I thought it would be, though at times there was a little touch of things being a little far fetched. Very much enjoyed though!
I absolutely love this author, this is another gripping and captivating read.
I have found this one has kept my attention and the authors writing style is fantastic.
I really enjoyed this twist on a ‘missing child’ novel. It was well written with great characters that I actually cared about. I also liked that it was an English man living in America bringing the two cultures together. Good holiday reading.
An excellent domestic thriller that kept me engaged throughout the entire journey. The writer’s depiction of the characters was spot on. Highly recommended.
Really good read. Would recommend to friends and family. I could sympathise with characters (important for any fiction novel!) and looked forward to picking it up and reading the next few chapters! Interesting plot line and a good ending. Will look out for more novels by the author. Thank you.
This is a superbly conceived story, expertly packaged. Josh is left to discover just who his partner Grace’s son really is when she dies in an accident in Portland, Maine. There is no documentation so Josh sets out to establish the real identity of the seven year old Logan. The boy is very well depicted in the book and the reader can only fear for what might happen to him as the gripping tale unfolds. All the characters are credible and the angst of Josh can be easily understood. The story takes many turns before reaching an unexpected ending. I loved this book. It is sensitive but gripping. I have no hesitation in recommending it.

A twisty and disturbing psychological thriller.
Josh's partner, Grace, dies in a tragic accident, he is left with full custody of her seven-year-old son.Josh has always acted like a father to Logan, and so he doesn't hesitate to become his legal guardian. But when Josh can't find any paperwork associated with Logan's birth, his memories of Grace putting off making their family official begins to trouble him.
Its my second book by this author and I must say that she's working very hard to make such characters and it's visible in her work.
Thanks to NetGalley and Hodder Straighten for giving me an advance copy.
