Description

“This is a beautifully written autobiography of a remarkable life. Farifteh Robb brilliantly tells her journey of faith and love across two cultures. I found it captivating and could not put it down.” John Clark, Chairman of the Friends of the Diocese of Iran Have you ever wondered what it is like to survive a revolution? To be a religious convert, adopting a different nationality and starting afresh in a new discipline? To fall deeply in love, despite the obstacles to a burgeoning relationship? All of these things, and more, happened to Farifteh Robb. This is the fascinating and moving story of a woman’s journey between two cultures – her Persian Muslim heritage and her Christian life in Scotland. It describes the challenges she faced in an Iran torn apart by political turmoil, and in her new life in the UK. Written with passion, candid reflection, and a gentle wit, this is the story of a life lived in faith in a multicultural world.

I am reviewing a copy of In the Shadows of the Shah’s through Lion Hudson LTD and Netgalley:

Farifteh V. Robb came to the Christian Faith at the height of the Iranian Revolution. This book is the story of a woman torn between two worlds, and the difficult choices she had to make.

Have you ever found yourself wondering what it was like to have survived a revolution? Have you wondered what it was like to start anew, with a new religion, a new nationality and starting new with a new discipline? Have you wondered what it was like to fall in love, deeply, despite facing the obstacles of a burgeoning relationship?

In the Shadow of the Shah’s the fascinating and moving story of a woman’s journey between two cultures – her Persian Muslim heritage and her life as a Christian in Scotland. This book tells of the challenges she faced in an Iran torn apart by political turmoil, and in her new life in the UK.

This book is written with compassion, and gentle wit this is the story of a life lived in faith in a multicultural world. I find In the Shadows of the Shah’s worthy of five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

I thought this book would discuss religion more than mainly cover a woman's life through the Iranian Revolution. Not that the story itself isn't worth telling or doesn't deserve merit, as it's indeed an interesting life but just wasn't what I was expecting from reading the description.

I struggled with the timeline of the book moving back and forward between present day and memories in the past (which weren't presented in chronological order? or maybe they were and I just got myself confused). I found myself having to go back to previous chapters to try and figure out when certain things happened in relation to other events in the book. Maybe this is due to my ignorance about the Iranian Revolution.

I thought I would find more things to relate to as someone who also grew up across two different cultures and religions but I failed to make a connection to the author and the story.
