I love this book! It's a beautiful collection of poems with a magical theme. What I like most us the mix of old and modern poems, with the likes of Lewis Carroll and William Shakespeare with Benjamin Zephaniah and Brian Moses.
There are illustrations throughout and a great mix of poems, some short and snappy with longer, rhyming poems and also shape poems too. I love the magical theme.
This book will be great to share with children and as an introduction to a range of poetry. I will definitely be purchasing a copy.

This was brilliant! Ada loves nothing more than reading a good rhyming books. With halloween approaching, we wanted to dive in to reading these lovely poems to her, to really introduce her to the variations of rhymes and styles, She absolutely loved all the poems. She especially liked the boy who asked for the sandwich! It is a lovely set of poems, from all times and great for a variety of ages. Brilliant Book!

A fantastic mix of modern and classic, well-known and well kept secrets, this anthology has something for everyone. The variety of tone, length and subject make it a great book to curl up with and gallop though on an autumnal day but it is equally good to dip in and out of. I think it will entice a few in my class who think poetry is not for them.

Fire Burn, Cauldron Bubble was an enchanting collection of magical themed poetry aimed at a younger audience. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! There was a fantastic mix of classic and contemporary - full of short stories and adventures, playing on words and history - all told through verse.

Brimming with the magical spirit of the season and beautifully illustrated by Eilidh Muldoon. I especially loved the 'Song of the Witches (When Their Internet Wasn't Working)', which was quirky and imaginative with a hilarious modern twist on the unpredictable magic of technology - I chuckled out loud. I also loved 'Somewhere in the Library', about the magic of a librarian... keeper of secrets and preserver of stories - guarder of magical portals...

Perfect for reading aloud over a hot-chocolate, wrapped in blankets with rain spattering at the dark windows - sharing the bewitching magic of stories, words, the imagination, laughter and poetry - guaranteed to make you smile.

I was attracted to this book of poetry by the title alone and loved this entertaining collection of themed poems spanning many centuries. The poem spoken by the witches in Macbeth sit next to those by John Agard and Paul Cookson. It is lovely, fun reading for all ages especially in the run up to Halloween. My favourite has to be Somewhere in the Library by Stewart Henderson which encapsulates the magic of books in a few pages.

This is another great anthology from Paul Cookson, full of brilliant poets, alongside beautiful illustrations by Eilidh Muldoon. I know the children in my class will love this poetry collection - magic, witches and dragons are right up their street - and it is perfectly timed for Halloween. With so many great poems to share, read aloud and enjoy you are sure to find a new favourite.

This poetry book came out in September, but I wanted to post this review at a spookier time of year. Fire Burn, Cauldron Bubble, collected by Paul Cookson, is perfect for celebrating this year's rather different Halloween.

There are classic, atmospheric favourites, such as Shakespeare's witches and Tennyson's The Kraken, but also lots of new poems to try. The Song of the Witches (When Their Internet Wasn't Working) by Stan Cullimore was an instant favourite of mine, as was Magic Love Potion by Liz Brownlee

It is a collection you can dip in and out of, and I've had lots of fun reading it aloud to my children, who also loved Eilidh Muldoon's illustrations.

My daughter really enjoyed I Feel Like I Know Them - immediately guessing who the poem was about when I read it to her.

So many of these poems will bring peals of laughter in classrooms and at home. But as well as laughs, there are fantastic twists - Oh How I Love A Unicorn will go one of two ways with young readers! Somewhere in the Library would be perfect to display on school library walls.

Paul Cookson has done again, has chosen superb poems for children for this magic collection, including some of his own. You will find a great range of poems within the ‘magic’ topic, from Shakespeare to Zephaniah. Just like ‘The works’ this book is a fantastic addition to any primary classroom. The poems can be read, performed, used alongside other books and topics. I also love the illustrations, they could help the children to create their own personal responses to the poem they read, hear or perform.

This is a glorious collection of poetry: what a fabulous edition to put in the hand of every Harry Potter reader! I loved the cover and think that it is very eye-catching.

The poems are collected from a wide range of poets, both classic and current, which I think offers the perfect balance of different voices. There are many accessible poems for young readers ( I particularly giggled at Graham Denton's poem about wizard sandwiches) but there are also more thought provoking poems for older readers ('The Witches' by Mark Elizabeth Coleridge or 'We don't Believe' by Valerie Bloom). The poems are interspersed with some lovely illustrations which could make great starter images for children to write their own poems.

If you know a child that loves reading fantasy, buy them this collection!

This was generally just a fun book. The poems each had a nice flow to them and the themes were very magical and enjoyable. However I think this is aimed at a younger audience and so I wasn't able to enjoy it as much as I wanted to. I recommend this poetry book to young kids because I think they would enjoy it much more than I did.

I did like this collection of poetry and it had a good mix of authors from various time periods and backgrounds. I did think that some of the poems shouldn't have been included as they weren't as good as the others but that is just me being hyper critical of them and there may be some who do not see them as problem. This is a good gift book and I'd recommend it for any children who like spooky things.
